운주사 석조문화재의 보존상태와 보존방안에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Conservation State and Plans for Stone Cultural Properties in the Unjusa Temple, Korea)

  • 이 연구에서는 전남 화순군에 위치한 운주사의 석조문화재를 중심으로 암석의 풍화대 형성과 풍화의 진행에 따른 암석학적 특성과 지화학적 특성을 종합 검토하였다. 이 결과를 중심으로 석조물을 이루는 암석의 기계적, 화학적, 광물학적 및 물리적 풍화에 영향을 미치는 풍화요소를 규명하였고, 이들을 정량화하여 석조문화재의 보존방안 강구를 위한 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다. 이 연구를 위하여 야외 정밀조사 및 총 18개의 시료(화산력 응회암 7점, 화산회 응회암 4점, 화강암류 4점, 화강편마암 3점)에 대한 전암분석과 암석의 특성 및 광물감정을 실시하였다. 또한 각각의 석조물에 대한 훼손현황을 반정량적으로 기재하였다. 운주사 일대의 지질을 이루는 암석은 화산력 응회암이며 대체로 N30-40W의 주향과 10~20NE의 경사를 갖고 있다. 이 화산력 응회암은 운주사를 중심으로 매우 넓게 분포하고 있으며 운주사 경내에 분포하는 석조물은 모두 화산력 응회암으로 조형되어 있다. 현재 운주 사 경내의 석조물들은 대부분 심한 균열의 발달과 함께 구조적 불균형을 이루고 있으며, 생물학적 오염 및 암석의 풍화가 상당히 진행되어 각력이 탈락하고 광물의 입상분해가 발생하는 등 풍화와 훼손양상이 아주 심각하다. 또한 석조물 곳곳의 철편과 시멘트 몰탈은 산화되어 적갈색의 침전물과 회백색의 침전물을 형성하고 있다. 이들 석조물에 대해 육안 훼손정도를 기재한 결과 대부분의 석조물들이 MD(moderate damage)에서 SD(severe damage) 등급의 훼손정도를 보이고 있다. 각 암석의 X선 회절분석 결과, 대부분의 시료들은 석영, 정장석, 사장석, 방해석 및 자철석 등의 광물로 구성되어 있다. 현미경하에서는 석영과 장석류가 심하게 변질되었으며, 타형의 결정형을 보이는 흑운모는 풍화되어 이차 풍화광물인 녹니석으로 변질되어 있다. 또한 응회암 곳곳의 열극대에 적갈색의 철분 침전물이 관찰되는 것으로 보아 암석의 내부까지 풍화가 진행되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 연구지역의 석조물을 이루는 응회암류는 Subalkaline, Peraluminous의 영역에 도시되며, 시료의 $SiO_2$(wt.%) 범위는 화산력 응회암이 70.08~73.69, 화산회 응회암은 70.26~78.42 의 범위를 보이고 있다. 또한 주성분원소에 대한 화학적풍화지수(CIA)와 풍화잠재지수(WPI) 계산치에서 CIA의 범위는 화산력 응회암은 55.05~60.75, 화산회 응회암은 52.10~58.70, 화강암은 49.49~51.06 화강편마암은 53.25~67.14의 범위를 보이며 이들은 편마암류와 응회암류에서 큰 값을 갖는다. WPI는 응회암류와 편마암류의 시료에서 0선 이하에 있거나 0선에 근접되어 도시되는 것으로 보아 상위 CIA에서와 같이, 이들 응회암류와 편마암류가 화학적인 풍화 작용을 쉽게 받고 있음을 시사한다. 암석의 분말시료와 석조물의 피복시료를 채취하여 전자현미경(SEM)으로 관찰한 결과 암석의 이차적인 풍화산물인 스멕타이트, 불석군의 점토광물이 관찰된다. 그리고 암석의 생물학적 풍화 요소인 하등식물의 균사류 및 지의류의 모근과 포자가 함께 관찰된다. 이는 암석의 내부까지 생물체가 압력을 가하고 있어 석조물의 기계적 풍화작용을 가중시키고 있으며, 이와 함께 석조물 내에 점토광물화가 상당히 진행된 것으로 판단된다. 암석의 풍화가 상당히 진행되어 비, 바람, 수목, 지반 등 자연환경 의해 훼손이 가속화 되고 있는 상태이다. 이에 대한 방안으로 1차 수목 제거 등 주변 환경정비와 배수로 설치 등 물 침투 방지에 대한 지반환경 조성이 필요하고, 2차 지의류 제거 등 생물학적 처리와 합성수지를 사용한 균열부분 접착복원과 암석 재질을 강하게 하는 경화 및 발수처리를 실시한다. 그리고 풍화의 원인인 바람, 햇빛, 비 등을 차단시킬 수 있고 주변경관과 어울리는 보호시설을 건립하여 보존하는 것이 좋을 것으로 판단된다.

포장재료의 심리적 특성 분석 (Psychological Character Analysis of Pavement Materials)

  • Recently, the importance of choosing correct pavement materials has been increasing in urban spaces and streets. Much research regarding the pavement theory and construction method have been conducted, but analysis in terms of human psychological character has not yet been performed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the psychological characters to 12 pavement materials, that are commonly used in our urban spaces and streets. The results of the psychological character for each pavement material can be summarized as follows: 1. The psychological characters to each pavement material were as follows: ① Clay embodies a natural, traditional, soft and intimate psychological character; ② Pebble stone has a natural, hard, cool and intimate psychological character; ③ Turf grass incorporates an intimate and soft psychological character; ④ Ceramic brick has an artificial and hard psychological character; ⑤ Tile pavement has a modern, artificial, hard and cool psychological character; ⑥ Water permeable concrete has a modern and artificial psychological character; ⑦ Flag stone has a natural psychological character; ⑧ Granite has a modern and artificial psychological character; ⑨ Portland concrete has an artificial and hard psychological character; ⑩ Small compacted brick has an artificial, dynamic and modern psychological character; ⑪ Wood block pavement has a natural and traditional psychological character; ⑫ Asphalt concrete pavement has a modern, hard and artificial character. 2. On the results of the cluster analysis regarding psychological indexes for 12 pavement materials, pavement materials were categorized in 3 clusters. Among them, one cluster was mainly used as the most popular pavement material in our urban spaces and streets. From this point of view, psychological character for pavement material in our urban spaces and streets was not as various as we expected. 3. In conclusion, the proper selection of pavement materials was very important and the factors affecting the human psychological character should be considered in the design of urban spaces and streets.

중증치주염이 치수조직에 미치는 영향 (The effect of advanced periodontitis on the dental pulp tissue)

  • In order to examine the effects of advanced periodontitis on the dental pulps, 38 extracted human teeth were examined histologically. The 38 teeth had a positive or negative state in the electric pulp test(EPT). In addition, almost of the 38 teeth had a deep pocket and severe mobility, and floating state. A medical and dental history was elicited. The extracted teeth fixed in 10% neutral formalin solution. The general tissue processing method was followed. The tissue block including the teeth was prepared for optical microscopy using hematoxillin-eosin staining. Among the 38 periodontally involved teeth, the dental pulps were respectively intact in 12(31%), and a pulp stone(or linear calcifications) was found in 18 teeeth(47%). In addition, 17 teeth(44%) had pulps exhibiting inflammatory reactions with varying intensities, such as hyperemia, pulp abscess, pulp necrosis. Among the 38 periodontally involved teeth, 37 teeth tested a positive to the EPT, and 7 teeth tested negative. The EPT positive 37 teeth had various histological features such as 7 normal pulp(18%), 17 pulp stone(44%), 1 hyperemia (2%), 9 pulpitis(23%), 5 root resorption(13%), 3 pulp abscess(7%), and 3 pulp necrosis(7%), In conclusion, it is suggested that in the EPT positive teeth, advanced periodontally involved teeth can cause inflammation of the dental pulp.

부산직할시 승학산 단일암괴 사태사고의 환경지질학적 고찰 (Geological Discussion of Monolithic Rock Slide on the Slope of Mt. Seunghag, Dangridong, Busan)

  • A rock slide in amount of 100 tons in weight happened at 7: 10 a.m., 4th October 1982, on the southwestern ridge of Mt. Seunghag, Busan City. The original rock mass of the rock slide is located 850m west from the Dangri Crushed Stone Quarry. The geology of the area consists of agglomerate, andesite, andesitic tuff, and shale hornfels of the Cretaceous Yucheon Group. The rock blocks were first shifted along the steep joint plane on an andesite outcrop at the site and then to the eastern foot of the mountain slope where some private houses are placed. The mountain slope is covered with thick superficial soil. A slided monolithic-block with 83 tons in weight from the rock slide met with an accident of striking against a house with a tremendous force, to which much damage was done as much as its half was destroyed. The rock-slided block pierced the board-floored room only posited at the center and by the bedroom of the house making a pass like a bullet hole, and hence cut a big pine tree with 24 centimeters in diameter at a distance of 26 meters down the house. However nobody was killed or injured in the stricken house, though seven family members were stayed therein at the very time of accident. They really met a rare opportunity in an unhappy disaster. Measurements of the rock slide were made in the course of the field survey. The monolithic mass was transported by way of saltation, rolling, and sliding to a distance of 300 meters down along the slope dipping 30$^{\circ}$ east. It took about 16 seconds front tile outcrop to the terminal. The acceleration value of the monolithic rock slide is 2.35m/sec$^2$.

하수슬러지 소각재를 이용한 시멘트 모르타르의 특성분석 (An Analysis on the Properties of Cement Mortar using Sewage Sludge Incineration Ash)

  • 오늘날 각종폐기물 발생량이 증가되는데, 본 실험 연구에서는 미장 및 벽돌 제조용의 배합비를 적용하여 시멘트 모르타르의 하수슬러지 소각재의 폐기물을 이용하여 활용가능성에 대한 기초적 자료를 제시함이 본 연구의 목적이다. 실험에 따른 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 배합비 1:2의 하수슬러지 10%와 황토의 소량 첨가율과 배합비 1:7의 경우 압축강도가 다소 작지만 석분과 하수슬러지 10% ~ 20%를 첨가하면 하수슬러지를 재순환 할 수 있으며, 환경 친화적인 재료의 기초적 자료로 활용 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

Experimental study of strength characteristics of reinforced broken rock mass

  • As the structure of broken rock mass is complex, with obvious discontinuity and anisotropy, it is generally necessary to reinforce broken rock mass using grouting in underground construction. The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the mechanical properties of broken rock mass after grouting reinforcement with consideration of the characteristics of broken rock mass (i.e., degree of fragmentation and shape) and a range of reinforcement methods such as relative strength ratio between the broken rock mass and cement-based grout stone body (λ), and volumetric block proportion (VBP) representing the volumetric ratio of broken rock mass and the overall cement grout-broken rock mass mixture after the reinforcement. The experimental results show that the strength and deformation of the reinforced broken rock mass is largely determined by relative strength ratio (λ) and VBP. In addition, the enhancement in compressive strength by grouting is more obvious for broken rock mass with spherical shape under a relatively high strength ratio (e.g., λ=2.0), whereas the shape of rock mass has little influence when the strength ratio is low (e.g., λ=0.1). Importantly, the results indicate that columnar splitting failure and inclined shear failure are two typical failure modes of broken rock mass with grouting reinforcement.

Rural landscape and biocultural diversity in Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea

  • Islands are often habitats to unique species because they have different environmental conditions from the mainland and other islands. Another characteristic of islands is their limited natural resources, which has led island residents to heavily rely on traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and use resources sustainably. The so-called "Maeul landscape" shows the interrelationship of biological species and people's use of natural resources. Shinan-gun is an administrative district located in the southwestern part of Korea that forms an archipelago with huge tidal flat areas. Since long ago, people's use of these tidal flats shows a high degree of biocultural diversity. Maeul landscapes also show humans' adaptation to the natural environment. For instance, strong winds blowing mainly from the northwest have led people in Shinan-gun to create "Ushil," a windbreak forest with stone blocks to block wind from their villages and agricultural fields. At present, the transfer of TEK to future generations is at stake due to socio-economic changes that cause island populations to shrink and age rapidly. Islands are often regarded as good destinations for tourism, but attention should also be given to sustainable development due to the environmental characteristics of islands. International organizations are making efforts to curb the threats of global environmental problems especially on small islands. Their activities are aimed at seeking solutions that stress the central role of biocultural diversity in establishing the sustainable use of natural resources on islands. Joint efforts oflocal people and government authorities to protect and conserve the Maeul landscape should be encouraged.

반응표면분석을 이용한 PoN 블록체인 시스템 합의품질 개선 (Improvement of Consensus Quality for PoN Blockchain System Using Response Surface Methodology)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to suggest an improved version of Proof-of-Nonce (PoN) algorithm, which is a distributed consensus algorithm used for block chain system. Methods: First, we used response surface method for design of experiment that is to generate experimental points considering non-linear relationship among variables. Then, we employed overlapped contour plots for visualizing the impact of control variables to performance target. Results: First, we modified the consensus procedure of the existing PoN algorithm by diminishing the content of the exchanged message. Then, we verified the performance improvement of the new PoN algorithm by performing a numerical experiment and paired t-test. Finally, we established new regression models for consensus time and Transactions per second (TPS) and proposed a method for optimizing control variables for obtaining performance target. Conclusion: We could improve the performance of the previous version of PoN algorithm by modifying the content of the exchanged message during 4-steps of consensus procedure, which might be a stepping stone for designing an efficient and effective consensus algorithm for blockchain system with dynamic operation environment.

Ultimate shear strength prediction model for unreinforced masonry retrofitted externally with textile reinforced mortar

  • Unreinforced masonry (URM) walls present low shear strength and are prone to brittle failure when subjected to inplane seismic overloads. This paper discusses the shear strengthening of URM walls with Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM) jackets. The available literature is thoroughly reviewed and an extended database is developed including available brick, concrete and stone URM walls retrofitted and subjected to shear tests to assess their strength. Further, the experimental results of the database are compared against the available shear strength design models from ACI 549.4R-13, CNR DT 215 2018, CNR DT 200 R1/2013, Eurocode 6 and Eurocode 8 guidelines as well as Triantafillou and Antonopoulos 2000, Triantafillou 1998, Triantafillou 2016. The performance of the available models is investigated and the prediction average absolute error (AAE) is as high as 40%. A new model is proposed that takes into account the additional contribution of the reinforcing mortar layer of the TRM jacket that is usually neglected. Further, the approach identifies the plethora of different block materials, joint mortars and TRM mortars and grids and introduces rational calibration of their variable contributions on the shear strength. The proposed model provides more accurate shear strength predictions than the existing models for all different types of the URM substrates, with a low AAE equal to 22.95%.

자기공명분석기에 의한 반사성 교감신경성 위축증의 치험 (Experience with the Application of Magnetic Resonance Diagnostic $Analyser^{(R)}$ -A case of reflex sympathetic dystrophy-)

  • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is a syndrome characterized by persistent, burning pain, hyperpathia, allodynia & hyperaesthesia in an extremity, with concurrent evidence of autonomic nervous system dysfunction. It generally develops after nerve injury, trauma, surgery, et al. The most successful therapies are directed towards blocking the sympathetic intervention to the affected extremity by regional sympathetic ganglion block or Bier block with sympathetic blocker; other traditional treatments include transcutaneous electrical stimulation, immobilization with cast & splint, physical therapy, psychotherapy, administration of sympathetic blocker, calcitonin, corticosteroid and analgesic agents. The purpose of this report is to evaluate and describe the effects of magnetic resonance following unsatisfactory results with traditional treatments of RSD. A 17 year old female patient, 1 year earlier, had received excision and drainage of pus at the right femoral triangle due to an injury caused by a stone. Afterwards, she experienced burning pain, knee joint stiffness, and muscle dystrophy of the right thigh, especially when standing and walking. Despite a year of number of traditional treatments such as: lumbar sympathetic block, continuous epidural analgesia, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, & administration of predisolone, her pain did not improve. Surprisingly, the patients was able to walk free from pain and difficulty after just one application of magnetic resonance. The patient has been successfully treated with further treatment of two to three times a week for approximately ten weeks. More recently, magnetic resonance has been demonstrated to produce effective results for the relief of pain in a variety of diseases. From our experiences we recognize magnetic resonance as a therapeutic modality which can provide excellent results for the treatment of RSD. It has been suggested that polysynaptic reflex which are disturbed in RSD may be modulated normally on the spinal cord level through the application of magnetic resonance.
