Variable structure control (VSC) systems control the state vectors using sliding regime (SR) constructed switching logic, switching plane and control law. Saturation function switching logic is used to improve the drawback which occurs in traditional sign function switching logic. Switching plane with time-varying parameter is proposed to improve the drawback which occurs in switching plane with constant parameter and it is suggested the control law which has time-varying parameter. The stability of VSC system controlled by proposed time-varying SR is discussed, and the good control behavior was shown through computer simulation using proposed SR.

Due to the difficulties in numerical generation of random fields that satisfy not only the probabilistic distribution but the spectral characteristics as well. it is relatively hard to find an exact response variability of a structural response with a specific random field which has its features in the spatial and spectral domains. In this study. focusing on the fact that the random field assumes a constant over the domain under consideration when the correlation distance tends to infinity, a semi-theoretical solution of response variability is proposed for in-plane and plate bending structures. In this procedure, the probability density function is used directly resulting in a semi-exact solution for the random field in the state of random variable. It is particularly noteworthy that the proposed methodology provides response variability for virtually any type of probability density functions.

Recently, Zhao et al. [Fuzzy Optimization and Decision Making (2007) 6, 279-295] characterized the interarrival times as fuzzy random variables and presented a fuzzy random elementary renewal theorem on the limit value of the expected renewal rate of the process in the fuzzy random renewal process. They also depicted both the interarrival times and rewards are depicted as fuzzy random variables and provided fuzzy random renewal reward theorem on the limit value of the long run expected reward per unit time in the fuzzy random renewal reward process. In this note, we simplify the proofs of two main results of the paper.

Long-term nonstationary oscillations (NSOs) are commonly observed in hydrological and climatological data series such as low-frequency climate oscillation indices and precipitation dataset. In this work, we present a stochastic model that captures NSOs within a given variable. The model employs a data-adaptive decomposition method named empirical mode decomposition (EMD). Irregular oscillatory processes in a given variable can be extracted into a finite number of intrinsic mode functions with the EMD approach. A unique data-adaptive algorithm is proposed in the present paper in order to study the future evolution of the NSO components extracted from EMD.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the degree of cost inefficiency for the urban railway lines of a metropolitan city operated by public institutions in Korea and identify the causes of this inefficiency. To this end, we assume that the urban railway lines produce the output of train-km by putting three production factors of labor, electric power and maintenance and set the variable cost function model with the translog function to make a stochastic cost frontier analysis. Based on estimated result, we conclude that the cost savings for 6 years of all lines are about 6,672 hundred million won and top five lines with high inefficiency are Busan Line1, Daegu Line1, Daejeon Line1, Gwangju Line1, and Daegu Line2. The causes of inefficiency are attributable to labor and maintenance factors. The results of this study can be useful in case of finding the priorities of measures and specific plans for reducing labor and maintenance costs in the urban railway operation.

This paper presents an efficient implementation of the 2.4 kbps EHSX(Enhanced Harmonic Stochastic Excitation) speech coder on a TMS320C6701$^{TM}$ floating-point digital signal processor. The EHSX speech codec is based on a harmonic and CELP(Code Excited Linear Prediction) modeling of the excitation signal respectively according to the frame characteristic such as a voiced speech and an unvoiced speech. In this paper, we represent the optimization methods to reduce the complexity for real-time implementation. The complexity in the filtering of a CELP algorithm that is the main part for the EHSX algorithm complexity can be reduced by converting program using floating-point variable to program using fixed-point variable. We also present the efficient optimization methods including the code allocation considering a DSP architecture and the low complexity algorithm of harmonic/pitch search in encoder part. Finally, we obtained the subjective quality of MOS 3.28 from speech quality test using the PESQ(perceptual evaluation of speech quality), ITU-T Recommendation P.862 and could get a goal of realtime operation of the EHSX codec.c.

In this paper, we present a Petri Net (PN) model for reliability analysis of fault-tolerant database system models that consists of components one shared memory, bus, processors and database (disk). Each component can be failed and repaired individually. The system is operational as long as database and one of component is operational. We develop Stochastic Reward Net (SRN) Model for reliability analysis of database system. SRN is potential to define various reward functions. and can be easily used to obtain performance measures. The modeling techniques using variable cardinality, enabling function, timed transition priority in SRN are shown.
A recognizable form having meaning is called a sign in semiotics. The sign is transformed into a physical counter form in this work. Its internal structure is restricted on the linguistic concept structure. We borrow the concept of a mathematical function from the utility function of a rational personal in the economy. Universalizing the utility function by introducing the consistency of independency on the manner of construction, we construct the probability. We introduce a random variable for the probability and join it to a position variable. Thus, we propose a physical sign and its serial changes in the forms of stochastic equations. The equations estimate three patterns (jumping, drifting, diffusing) of possible solutions, and we find them in the one-day stock-price flow. The periods of jumping, drifting and diffusing were about 2, 3.5, and 6 minutes for the Kia stock on 11/05/2014. Also, the semiotic sign (icon, index, symbol) can be expected from the equations.
In this study, stochastic responses of a cable-stayed bridge subjected to the spatially varying earthquake ground motion are investigated for variable local soil cases and wave velocities. Quincy Bay-view cable-stayed bridge built on the Mississippi River in Illinois, USA selected as a numerical example. The bridge is composed of two H-shaped concrete towers, double plane fan type cables and a composite concrete-steel girder deck. The spatial variability of the ground motion is considered with the coherency function, which is represented by the components of incoherence, wave-passage and site-response effects. The incoherence effect is investigated by considering Harichandran and Vanmarcke model, the site-response effect is outlined by using hard, medium and soft soil types, and the wave-passage effect is taken into account by using 1000, 600 and 200 m/s wave velocities for the hard, medium and soft soils, respectively. Mean of maximum response values obtained from the analyses are compared with those of the specific cases of the ground motion model. It is concluded that the obtained results from the bridge model increase as the differences between local soil conditions cases of the bridge supports change from firm to soft. Moreover, the variation of the wave velocity has important effects on the responses of the deck and towers as compared with those of the travelling constant wave velocity case. In addition, the variability of the ground motions should be considered in the analysis of long span cable-stayed bridges to obtain more accurate results in calculating the bridge responses.
Variability in Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) can be caused by time-dependent accretion rates, geometric changes in the circumstellar disks, the stochastic hydromagnetic interactions between stellar surfaces and inner disk edges, reconnections within the stellar magnetosphere, and hot/cold spots on stellar surfaces. We uncover ~1400 variables from a sample of ~5300 YSOs in nearby low-mass star-forming regions using mid-IR light curves obtained from the 5.5-years NEOWISE All Sky Survey. The mid-IR variability traces a wide range of dynamical, physical, and geometrical phenomenon. We classify six types of YSO variability based on their light curves: secular variability (Linear, Curved, Periodic) and stochastic variability (Burst, Drop, Irregular). YSOs in earlier evolutionary stages have higher fractions of variables at all types and higher amplitudes for the variability. Along with brightness variability, we also find a diverse range of secular color variations, which can be attributed to a competitive interplay between the variable accretion luminosity of the central source and the variable extinction by material associated with the accretion process. We compare the variability of known FUors/EXors and VeLLOs/LLSs, which represent two extreme ends (burst versus quiescent) of the episodic accretion process; FUors/EXors have a higher fraction of variables (65%) than VeLLOs/LLSs (41%). Short-term (few day) and long-term (decades) variability, as well as possible AGB contamination in the YSO catalogues, are also discussed.molecules become more complex by surface chemistry induced directly by high energy photons or by the thermal energy diffused over heated grain surface.
