  • This paper presents experimental analysis of a friction-driven wheel that is responsible for wheel squeal. Squeal noise generating mechanism and environment of train u heels has been tried to reproduce under laboratory condition. Scale down size rail and wheel are made and influential parameters to squeal noise are measured, e. g. frictional force, pressure between rail and wheel, creep speed of rail. Negative damping characteristic curve are calculated currently. Necessary relating computational analysis is also carried on.

  • Four degrees of freedom mathematical model is presented to describe the fundamental mechanisms of the disc brake squeal noise. A contact parameter is introduced to describe the coupling between the in-plane and the out-of-plane motions. The friction coeficient including "relative velocity" and ′normal force" can be generally formulated as the form of multiplication with polynominal parameters(${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$). (omitted)

  • The motivation behind this work is to understand the phenomenon of friction-induced vibration and squeal due to misalignment. In present paper, it is studied on effect of misalignment between friction-induced vibration and squeal by an experiment using a pin-on-disk type experimental apparatus. In order to build an analytical model of the friction-induced vibration system with misalignment, the system is modeled as a single-DOF and 3-DOF system. The results show that the single DOF system can only show stick/slip phenomenon, but the 3-DOF system can show squeal due to misalignment. Consequently, it can be said that the misalignment in a friction-induced vibration system is a source of squeal noise.

  • The spray/wall interaction is considered as an important phenomenon influencing air-fuel mixing in the internal combustion engines. In order to adequately represent the spray/wall interaction process, impingement regimes and post-impingement behavior have been modeled using experimental data and conservation constraints. The modeled regimes were stick, rebound, spread and splash. The tangential velocities of splashing droplets were obtained using a theoretical relationship. The continuous phase was modeled using the Eulerian conservation equations, and the dispersed phase was calculated using a discrete droplet model. The numerical simulations were compared to experimental results for spray impingement normal to the wall. The predictions for the secondary droplet velocities and droplet sizes were in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • This paper introduces a new method that controls a humanoid robot detecting a human motion using a Kinect sensor. Processing the output of a depth seneor of the Kinect sensor, we build a human stick model which represents each joint of human body. We detect a specific motion by calculating the distance and angle between joints. We send the control message to the robot using Bluetooth wireless communication.

  • This paper presents the main method to analyze the dynamic characteristics of power transmission system using the multi-body dynamics, which is based on the concept of subsystem equation, subsystem assembling, and the self-determination technique for the system degree of freedom. We can model the mechanical components of power transmission system easily with the advantage of multi-body dynamics. Based on the theory, a dynamic simulation program was developed to analyze system performances, transient phenomena, and other dynamic problems. The driving performance of automatic transmission was simulated with using the multi-body dynamics and Newtonian method, and the validity of program was proved by comparing the two kinds of result.

  • The previous limited authority system capable of implementing attitude command response type and translational command response type by operating SAS actuator has the problem of early saturation of SAS actuator since SAS actuator should compensate the mechanical linkage displacement caused by control sick movement. In this paper, a limited authority system where flight control computer receives the command from the control stick which is not connected to the mechanical linkage is described. In this system the compensation by the SAS actuator is not necessary and SAS actuator saturate later. SAS actuator saturation problem can be further relaxed by using the trim actuator. This new limited authority system is applied to BO-105 model, simulation is performed for the doublet input and pirouette maneuver is also simulated and analyzed.

  • The media transport systems, such as printers, copiers, facsimile, ATMs, cameras, etc., have been widely used and being developed rapidly. In the development of those systems, the media feeding mechanism is an important key technology for the design and development of the media transport systems. In this paper, a multi-degree of freedom sheet model with dynamic contact conditions is presented to understand the mechanism of sticking and jamming. A sheet is modelled as a cantilever beam and the feeding velocity is assumed to be constant. The relation between the feeding velocity and the coefficient of friction for guaranteeing stable feeding is presented. Simulations are performed for a horizontal linear guide and a oblique linear guide, calculating the contact force and contact states of mass points.

  • A modified ignition and growth(I&G) model which is necessary to simulate the combustion phenomena of energetic materials and an analytical model determining the unknown parameters of the reaction rate equation are proposed. The modified I&G model sustains important physical implications with overcoming some problems of previous rate equations. This rate model consists of ignition term which represents the formation of the hotspot due to void collapse and growth term which means the shock to detonation transition phenomena. Also, the theoretical model is used to investigate the combustion characteristics of certain energetic materials before running Hydrocode by pre-determination of unknown parameter, $b,\;G,\;x,\;I$. The analytical model provides efficient and highly accurate results rather than previous method which simulated the unconfined-rate-stick via the numerical means.
