Local mean fluctuating velocity components were measured in the separating and reattaching axisymmetrc region of turbulent boundary layer over the wall of convex cylinders placed in a water tunnel by using 2-color 4-beam fiber optics laser Doppler velocimetry. Measurements were made with three different diameters of cylinders with four different diameters of cylinders with four different diameter of the obstructions. The range of Reynolds number based on step height was between 5,000 to 25,200. The study demonstrates that the reattachment length decreases with decreasing cylinder radius and is always shorter than that for the two-dimensional backward-facing step flow at the condition of the same step height. It was also observed that the turbulent kinetic energy in the recirculating region increases with an increases in the radius of convex curvature. The measured velocity field suggests that the transverse curvature can effect definitely the formation of corner eddy.
The control performance of hybrid PWM inverter using a phase current measurement is presented in this paper. The hybrid PWM technique consists of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and six-step voltage control operation. The SVPWM is performed to reduce the harmonic components in the low speed region, and the six-step modulation is applied to increase the maximum speed of the IPMSM in the high speed region. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a great performance in both the low speed range and high speed range. However, the six-step modulation cannot be completely implemented, since the inverter that includes the lag-shunt sensing method has an immeasurable current region. In this paper, a quasi-six-step modulation using a modified voltage vector is proposed. The validity and usefulness of the proposed PWM technique is verified by MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results.

Indoor radon has been known as one of the notorious carcinogens. However, a safe environmental criterion of radon has not yet been established in Korea, The main objectives of this study were to study concentration distributions of radon, to trace radon sources in subways, and to obtain a strategy for radon reduction in Seoul metropolitan area. Radon concentrations had been extensively determined by several steps. The first step was to survey radon levels in all of 83 subway stations from October to November in 1991. The second step was to select 40 out of 83 stations and then to study seasonal variations in 1991 and 1992. The third step was to monitor radon levels by hourly-basis plans. The fourth step was to seek a radon reduction strategy by altering ventilation at Ankuk station where had the highest radon concentration during the first measurement step. Each underground floor in the station was divided into 10 sites to measure hourly radon variations. The final step of the study was to measure radon concentrations in groundwater that is one of the possible main sources radon place. The result of the various measuring approaches showed short-and long-term radon variation and indicated radon reduction schemes.

Acoustic holography is applied to automobile aeroacoustic noise. Automobile aeroacoustic noise has low coherence due to multiple independent sources and measurement noise. This paper discusses the reliability of acoustic holography on this low coherence condition. Main subjects are the number and position of reference microphones, which is used for a step-by-step scanning method, and measurement noise. A real automobile experiment verifies the results.

Moire topography method is a well-known non-contacting 3-D measurement method. Recently, the automatic 3-D measurement by moire topography has been required since the method was frequently applied to the engineering and medical fields. 3-D measurement using digital projection moire topography is very attractive because of its high measuring speed and high sensitivity. In this paper, using different N-bucket algorithm method of digital projection moire topography is tested to measuring object with the 2$\pi$-ambiguity problem. Experimental results prove that the proposed scheme is capable of finding measurement errors that decreased more by using the flour-three step algorithm method than the same step in the phase shifting of different pitchs.

Analysis of measurement systems is important to determine if the measurement process is adequate to measure the part-to-part variability in the process. Control chart techniques provide an effective, and easy-to-use method for performing this analysis. However, application with the real data for the evaluation procedure for multiple measurement systems have not been demonstrated. This research will provide a methodology for the evaluation of part-to-part variation and variation of different measurement systems step by step followed by number of case studies for each methodologies provided.

The objective of this research is to develop an effective inspection planning strategy for sculpture surfaces in OMM(On-Machine Measurement) process. As a first step, effective measuring point locations are determined to obtain optimum results for given sampling numbers. Two measuring point selection methods are suggested in this study based on newly proposed CAD/CAM/CAI integration concept: (1) by the prediction of cutting errors, (2) by considering cutter contact points to avoid the measurement errors caused by cusps. As a next step, the TSP(Traveling Salesman Problem)algorithm is applied to minimize the probe moving distance. Appropriate simulations and experiments are performed to verify the proposed inspection planning strategy in this study, and the results are analyzed.
An automatic level measurement system was developed to level the land fer direct seeding of rice. A laser transmitter/receiver set was used to measure land-level. The inclination error occurred in level measurement on irregular land surface could be compensated by attaching rotating mass. The level measuring experiments were performed on three kinds of different shapes(step, random, sine). This system could accurately measure step level of which amplitude was 40mm in 0.5s, random level change within $\pm$ 5mm maximum measurement error, and sine level change of which spatial frequency was 0.5m-1. To verify performance of the inclination error compensation system, frequency transfer function(acceleration input vs. inclination error) was computed by spectral analysis. The inclination error was decreased about 20㏈ by error compensation system.

Purpose : To examine the relative absolute reliability and validity of step test (ST) scores in subjects with chronic stroke. Method : A total of 27 stroke patients, participated in the study. A relative reliability index (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC) was used to examine the level of agreement of inter-rater test-retest reliability for ST score. Absolute reliability indices, including the standard error of measurement(SEM) and the minimal detectable change (MDC), and limits of agreement by Bland and Altman analysis. The validity was demonstrated by spearman correlation of ST score with 10 m Walk Test (10mWT), Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Lower/Extremity (FMA-L/E)-total score, Berg Balance Scale (BBS)-total score. Result : An excellent inter-rater reliability in ST scores was found (paretic, ICC=0.993~0.996; nonparetic, ICC=0.982~0.991). In addition, excellent test-retest reliability was found (paretic, ICC=0.992; nonparetic, ICC=0.967). It all showed acceptable SEM of the ST score as paretic and nonparetic were 0.22 and 0.46 respectively (average score <10 %), and the MDC of the paretic and nonparetic were 0.61 and 1.27 respectively (possible highest score <20 %). indicating that measures had a small and acceptable measurement error. The ST score of paretic and nonparetic were also found to be significantly associated with 10MWT (r=0.77~0.79), FMA-LE scores (r=0.73~0.81) and BBS scores (r=0.72~0.76). Conclusion : The ST showed highly sufficient Inter-rater test-retest agreement and validity and acceptable measurement errors caused by due to chance variation in measurement. It also can be used by clinicians and researchers to assess the balance and mobility performance and monitor functional change in chronic stroke patients.

Objectives: Bolus, which combines 3D-bolus and Step-bolus, was produced and its usefulness is evaluated. Materials and Methods: A Bolus was manufactured with a thickness of 10mm and 5mm using a 3D printer (3D printer, USA), and a Step Bolus of 5mm was bonded to a 5mm thick bolus. In order to understand the characteristics of Step bolus and 3D bolus, the differences in relative electron density, HU value, and mass density of the two bolus were investigated. These two Bolus were applied to anthropomorpic phantom to confirm its effectiveness. After all contouring of the phantom, a treatment plan was established using the computed treatment planning system (Eclipse 16.1, Varian medical system, USA). Treatment plan was performed using electron beam 6MeV, nine dose measurement points were designated on the phantom chest, air-gap was measured at that point, and dose evaluation was performed at the same point for each bolus applied using a glass dosimeter (PLD). Results: Bolus, which combines 3D-bolus 5mm and Step-bolus 5mm, was manufactured and evaluated compared with 3D-bolus 1cm. The relative electron density of 3D Bolus was 1.0559 g/cm2 and the step Bolus was 1.0590 g/cm2, which was different by 0.01%, so the relative electron density was almost the same. In the lightweight measurement of air-gap, the combined bolus was reduced to 54.32% for all designated points compared to 3D-bolus. In the dose measurement using a glass dose meter (PLD), the consistency was high in phantom using combined bolus at most points except the slope point. Conclusion: Combined bolus made by combining 3D-bolus and Step-bolus has all the advantages of 3D-bolus and Step-bolus. In addition, by dose inaccuracy due to Air-gap, more improved dose distribution can be shown, and effective radiation therapy can be performed.
