Lipoxygenase and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor protein of mature soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed are main anti-nutritional factors in soybean seed. A new soybean cultivar, "Gaechuck#1" with the traits of black seed coat, green cotyledon, lipoxygenase2,3 and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor protein free was developed. It was selected from the population derived the cross of "Gyeongsang#1" and C242. Plants of "Gaechuck#1" have a determinate growth habit with purple flowers, brown pubescence, black seed coat, black hilum, oval leaflet shape and brown pods at maturity. Seed protein and oil content on dry weight basis have averaged 39.1% and 16.2%, respectively. It has shown resistant reaction to soybean necrosis, soybean mosaic virus, Cercospora leaf spot and blight, black root rot, pod and stem blight, and soybean pod borer. "Gaechuck#1" matured on 5-10 October with a plant height of 50 cm. The 100-seed weight of "Gaechuck#1" was 23.2g. Yield of "Gaechuck#1" was averaged 2.2 ton/ha from 2005 to 2007.

Gaechuck#2 matured in 4 October with plant height of 54cm and a 100-seed weight of 24.4g. Average Yield of Gaechuck#2 was 230 - 250 kg/10a in 2005 - 2007.
In order to investigate the responsiveness of sun-curing tobacco varietie - CHUNGJOO YUB, HATANO and HYANGCBBO - to the Gibberellic Acid 100, 200, and 300 P.P.M. of Gillberellic Acid were sprayed in the field at the stage of just prior to stein elongation. 1. The elongation of stem and leaves were prominent at the concentration of 300 P.P.M. with 30.05~55.22% increase in the stem and 16.96~50.69% increase in the leaves. Hut their width decreased to 70.42~83.66%. 2. The number of leaves did not effected with the treatment meaningly that the elongation of stem was caused by the elongation of intermodes and not by the increase of nodes. 3.12~13.9% increase of raw leaf.es weight were resulted at the concentration of 200 P.P.M. 4. The weight of dry matter were increased by 9~12.2% at the concentration of 200 P.P.M. treatment.
Inflorescence, stem, and leaf samples of lettuce grown in a greenhouse in spring and autumn seasons were assayed for sesquiterpene lactones (SLs) content by high performance liquid chromatography. The concentrations of SLs were significantly higher in the inflorescences followed by upper leaf and stem compared to the other plant parts in most of the samples. SLs content (sum of lactucin and lactucopicrin) in various tissues of lettuce cultivated in spring season varied from 5.7 to 22.5 fold ranging from $27.4{\mu}g/g$ dry weight (DW) in the upper stem (cultivar "PI 176588") as the lowest to as high as $2,292.0{\mu}g/g$ DW in the inflorescence (cultivar "709849-1"). During autumn cultivation, the concentration of SLs varied from 2.0 to 14.4 fold ranging from as low of $32.4{\mu}g/g$ DW in the lower stem (cultivar "PI176588") to as high of $838.0{\mu}g/g$ DW in the upper leaf (cultivar "Dambaesangchu"). Higher lactucin (1.2 to 5.6 fold) and lactucopicrin (1.1 to 3.9 fold) concentration was observed during spring compared to autumn cultivation in most of the samples. SLs content in various organs of lettuce increases from the basal plant part going upwards. As lactucin and lactucopicrin are the major SLs which affects the sensory property of lettuce, their quantitative variation in the lettuce cultivars is useful for breeding new varieties with better consumer acceptance.
This study was conducted to clarify progressed changes of plant types and the effects of the physiological and ecological components on improving ideotype of winter wheat. 12 wheat varieties were planted at the experimental farm of Wheat and Barley Research Institute in Suwon in 1990. As results of intensive wheat breeding for early maturity since 1959, heading, flowering and maturing dates have been shortened by 17, 15 and 14 dagys, respectively. The shortened days from sowing to heading and from heading to flowering contributed to the early maturity to improved. Physiological factors associated with heading time of wheat could be reprsented by growth habit, photoperiod responses, earliness in narrow sense and winter hardiness. For improving an early maturity of winter wheat, it would desired to maintain some degree of winter habit(III-IV), and recombination of more insensitivity to short day length and more shortened earliness in narrow sense than that of Saemil and Chugoku 81, and higher degree of winter hardiness. For improving the early maturity the more effective way must be of shortened days from sowing to heading, and days from flowering to maturity than days from heading to flowering. Ideotype of wheat will be desired to recombine two semi-dwarf genes with erect plant type being about 70-80cm, less stem elongation by late spring, long spike and many grains per spikelet. Average spike weight ratio was about 45-49% in high-yielding varieties, stem fresh weight was lighter, but spike fresh weight was heavier in new one while leaf fresh weight was similar to each other during the maturing periods. Average spike dry weight ratio was higher about 40~48%, and stem and leaf blade dry weights were lower in the newly bred varieties. Stem dry weight was heavier than spike or leaf dry weight in the old varieties of Yungkwang, Jangwang and Jinkwang. Leaf area index for the varieties showed normal distribution curve as the maximum point in booting stage. The maximum point of this curve come in early maturing wheat, and late in old one. The maximum points of LAI were 6.4~6.8 in the high-yielding varieties. Totals of LAI in each period investigated of old one were higher than those of newly bred being 24.6~28.8. Chlorophyll content of the high-yielding varieties of Chokwang, Geurumil and Saemil as higher than that of the old varieties Jangkwang, Jinkwang, Wonkwang and Sinkwang from regrowing period to April 21. after then slightly and even after heading. Net assimilation rate (NAR) was higher in high-yielding varieties with good plant type, and lower in old ones. Grain yield of the newly released varieties increased rapidly but slowly in the old ones. Change in water content of grain at the growing stage in newly bred was lower than that of the old bred. Diminishing rate of water content of grain in establishment per day was 1.2% average that of the old varieties including Yungkwang was 1.5%, and those of the newly bred including Chokwang were 0.9~1.1%. Chokwang, Naemil, and Saemil were the highest-yielding varieties of the Korean cultivars. Yields were increased by spikes per m$^2$, grain weight for the varieties bred in Suwon, and by spikes per m$^2$ for the varieties bred in Milyang.

This study was carried out in order to investigate the early growth and root development characteristics of Peucedanum japonicum container seedlings. The experiment was performed by containers (128 and 200 cavities containers) and shading levels (0%, 35%, 50% and 75% shading). Germination rate of P. japonicum seeds was getting higher in the lower shading level and the highest in the full sunlight (71.9%). Plant height was the highest under 50% shading of all containers. Fresh weight and dry weight of the shoot (leaves + stem) were the highest under 50% shading of all containers, too. Meanwhile, fresh weight and dry weight of the root per plant were the highest under the full sunlight of 128 cavities container such as 0.34 g and 0.03 g, respectively. Total root length, root project area and root surface area were higher under the full sunlight of 128 cavities container such as 234.5 cm, $6.6cm^2$ and $20.8cm^2$, respectively and the next higher was under 35% shading such as 201.7 cm, $5.9cm^2$ and $18.4cm^2$, respectively. A case of root volume was the highest with $0.15cm^3$ under the full sunlight. As a result of the surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that the shoot and root of P. japonicum seedling grow nicely by maintaining 35% shading.
This experiment was conducted to study plant characteristics and dry matter production of several rice varieties. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Culm length was gradually shortened as varieties were improved and showed significant decrease in Japonica X Indica hybrids. 2. Panicle length seems to be shortened as varieties changed from group I to group III. However, varieties in group IV had longer panicle length in spite of shortening tendency in other groups. 3. Leaf blade length was decreased as varieties improved, but leaf blade width was increased. 4. Panicle exertion showed significant decrease as varieties improved. 5. Number of panicles per square meter among Japonica varieties was gradually increased and similar to the number of spikelets per panicle. Number of spikelets on Indica X Japonica hybrids were higher than Japonica varieties, whereas 1,000 kernel weight was slightly decreased. 6. Dry weight of leaf sheath and culm, and leaf blade was highest at the time of heading and the weight of panicle showed significant increase between 10 and 20 days after heading. 7. The maximum crop growth ratios of leaf blade, stem and panicles were attadined at the stage of heading, booting and milking, respectively. 8. The distribution ratio of dry matter was higher in leaf blade than in stem at the tillering stage. At the heading stage, the distribution ratio of dry matter was higher in order of culm, leaf blade and panicle. At the maturing stage, the ratio was higher in order of panicle, stem and laf blade. 9. Correlation coefficients among grain yield, harvest index, and biological yield were all significant and they were positive.

The effect of different inoculation amounts of Pisolithus tinctorius (Pt) spores and fertilizers on the growth of Pinus densiflora seedlings grown in fumigated or nonfumigated soils were tested in the: polyethylene pots. To infest the pot soil with Pt spores, the mixture of the spores with sterilized nursery soil was used after seeding. Eighteen months after inoculation, mycorrhizal formation was 42-70% in fumigated plus Korean-Pt inoculated pots, 60-70% in fumigated plus U.S.-Pt inoculated pots, and less than 1% in non-fumigated, Korean-Pt inoculated pots. Growth enhancement effect of Pt spore inoculation was shown on only fumigated soil and the inoculation increased the seedlings height (8-38%), stem diameter (9-40%) and dry weight (6-73%). Especially 0.4g per pot application rate increased the height (30-31%), stem diameter (23-28%) and dry weight (56-69%), while the 0.2g U.S. Pt spore per pot rate increased 26-38, 17-20 and 58-60%, for height, stem diameter, and dry weight respectively. At 1X fertilizer application rate (urea 2g, fused superphoshate 4g, and potassium chloride 1g per pot), the 0.4g per pot rate resulted in more dry weight by 18% than that at 1/2X rate. The result indicated that there is a need for further research on inoculating nonfumigated soil with Pt and that appropriate application rates of fertilizers and Pt spores are 1X and 0.2-0.4g per pot on fumigated soil, respectively.
We investigated the changes of growth characteristics and major components according to harvesting times in Artemisia capillaris. Flower buds farmed on July 30 and flowers were all open on August 30 and seeds were mature in September, As the growth by harvesting time was the best on August 30 so fresh weight and dry weight were the highest. Especially, in this time, plants had no leaves and fresh weight was investigated as 243.7 g composed of 109.6 g capitulum and 134.1 g stem. Scoparone content, a major component, was the highest as 6.50 mg/g DW in capitulum on August 30. Also capillarisin appeared in both leaf and capitulum except stem and capitulum was shown the most capillarisin content as 1.65 mg/g DW on July 30.

This study was carried out to determine the effects of temperature and shading on germination and early growth of Pimpinella brachycarpa. Experiment was performed by temperature controls ($5^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $30^{\circ}C$) and shading treatments (control, 35% shading, 50% shading, and 75% shading). Seed pre-treatment before the germination experiment was carried out by temperature (with low temperature and wetting treatments for 0day, 20days, and 40days). Seeds of P. brachycarpa were, 20days of seed pre-treatment, germinated well at $5^{\circ}C$ and the more temperature went up, the more germination rate went down. As a result of surveying shading treatments, the height, leaf area, leaf length, leaf width etc were the highest (7.3cm, $12.8cm^2$, 5.4cm, and 2.3cm, respectively) under 50% shading. Specially, the root was grown well under 35% and 50% shading. Fresh weight of shoot (leaves+stem) was the highest under 50% and 75% shading and dry weight of shoot (leaves+stem) was the highest under 35% and 50% shading. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that the production of P. brachycarpa seedling is more effective under 50% shading.
