  • The engine exhaustive valve became essential as the important element. The dissimmilar welding method of exhaustive valve head to stem was asked for manufacturing the engine exhaustive valve, for which the electric resistance are welding has been conventionally used, resulting in poor quality of the welded joint. In this paper, not only the development of optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability but also the development of in-process real-time weld qudlity(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of the engine exhaustive valve(SUH3-SUH35 dissimilar steels) were perfomed. The high temperature(500, 500, 600$^{circ}$C) creep properties prediction of the friction welded joint of SUH3-SUH35 was investigated relating to the initial strain meethod(ISM) as a new approach, resulting in obtaining an experimental equation of creep life prediction.

  • For the evaluation of operability of MOV(Motor Operated Valve), the precision prediction of thrust/torque acting on the valve is important. In this paper, the analytical prediction method of thrust/torque was proposed. The design basis stem thrust calculation typically considers the followings: Packing thrust, Stem rejection load, design basis differential pressure load. In general, test results show that temperature, pressure, fluid type, and differential pressure, independently and combination, all have an effect on the friction factor. The prediction results of thrust/torque are well agrement with dynamic test results.

FEM을 이용한 세라믹-세라믹 고관절 마찰소음의 불안정성 해석에 관한 연구 (Squeak Noise of Ceramic-on-ceramic Hip Joint using FEM)

  • This paper describes the FEM analysis for squeak problem of the ceramic-on-ceramic hip joint system. The onset of hip squeak is estimated by the positive real parts of the eigenvalues in the hip joint system. From the complex eigenvalue analysis, the unstable frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes are determined at the certain severe friction coefficients. It is found that some bending and torsion modes of the femoral stem can be unstable due to the mode-coupling mechanism. It also shows that the magnitude of the friction coefficient plays a key role on the occurrence of hip squeak.

유한요소법을 이용한 인공 고관절의 접촉응력 해석에 관한 연구 (Contact Stress Analysis of Artificial Hip Joints Using Finite Element Method)

  • The modern orthopaedics frequently uses the total hip replacement in the artificial hip joint. The wear in this joint requires a re-replacement of hip joints because it is under the severe load and friction conditions. To solve these problems the previous studies have been mainly focussed on the development of new materials. The research of new materials, however, needs much time and effort since it should be experimented for its bio-compatibility, friction, and wear characteristics. To reduce the work, in this study, the finite element analysis is applied to find new combinations of bio-materials in the total hip replacement which has the excellent contact characteristics. A non-linear FEM program MARC with 5-node axisymmetric element was used for analyzing the contact stresses between the hip joints. The computed results show that in case of acetabulum UHMWP has good characteristics, in femoral head, $Al_2O_3$, and in stem, Ti6Al4V.

To solve these problems the previous studies have been mainly focused on the development of the new materials. 파의 굴절 및 회절에 미치는 비선형 효과에 대한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of Nonlinear Effect of Wave on Refraction and Diffraction)

  • 수심변화가 완만하고 흐름이 없는 곳을 파가 전파할 때 겪게되는 침수, 굴절 및 회절현상의 해석에는 3차 Stokes파 이론에 의한 선형, 비선형, 포물형 방정식이 이용되며, 여기서는 바닥마찰과 바람의 영향은 고려하지 않는다. 이 포물형 방정식으로 암초가 있는 경우에 대해 수치해석을 수행하여 기존의 실험치와 비교 검토하였고, 회절과 굴절효과의 중요성을 고찰했다. 천해파의 특성변화 해석에는 Boussinesq방정식에 기초한 포물형 방정식이 이용된다. 흐름이 없는 경우에 방파제를 따라 전파하는 Cnoidal파의 회절현상을 수심이 변하고 입사각이 변하는 경우에 대해 수치해석을 하여 Stem wave의 특성에 대해 논의하였다.

내마모성이 향상된 기능성 표면구조를 갖는 인공관절에 관한 기초적인 연구 (A Basic Study on Functional Friction Surface of Artificial Joints)

  • At present. about 0.3 million and more THRs (Total Hip Replacement) in a rear are being done worldwide. The increase in mechanical failure with the increase in THR, required more revisions. Revisions compensate mainly the wear of the artificial joint frictional surface and the loosening of the cup and stem. According to recent researches, loosening is mainly due to wear debris UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) from frictional surfaces . To overcome the wear problems associated with artificial joint materials , new surface structures with regular Patterns were designed and fabricated The lubrication Properties were examined to evaluate the wear of the frictional surfaces. The surface structure manifested a Pattern of "dents" with a 0.2-1.0 mm of diameter and 0.6-2.0 mm of Pitch. From the friction test of the SUS316L vs UHMWPE using the frictional tester, we found that the lubrication Performance was improved due to of drastically reduced amount of abrasion. There were optimum sizes for the diameter and the pitch of the Pattern. The results demonstrated that the lubrication properties could be improved by Patterning of the frictional surfaces. The surface Patterning was effective in preventing wear of the frictional surfaces, and the life of an artificial joint could be extended with such Patterning.

Development of a Water-Spraying Type Automatic Glochids Removal System for Cactus (Opuntia humifusa) Stem

  • Purpose: A water-spraying type automatic glochids removal system for cactus (Opuntia humifusa) stem was developed, and its performance was evaluated. The system was developed to reduce intensive human labor in removing glochids from cactus stem skin without inducing damage prior to further processing into value-added products. Methods: The developed system consists of conveyor and water-spraying systems. The conveyor system delivers cactus stems through water-spraying compartments and finally to a collecting box. In order to remove the glochids, rotating nozzles spray water over all areas (i.e., front and back faces and sides) of the cactus skin under controlled water pressure. Operating conditions such as conveyor speed, water pressure, angle of water-spraying nozzles, distance between conveyor belt and rotating nozzles, and angle of cactus flipping slide were adopted from our previous study and applied on the system design and manufacturing. The performance of glochids removal was evaluated by counting the number of glochids on the cactus stem before and after processing on the system. Results: The developed system performed efficiently and effectively under the pre-studied operating conditions except for the angle of cactus flipping slide. The new system had a glochids removal ratio of 94.1% without damaging the cactus skin. Considering the original number (approximately 30-60) of glochids, the remaining number was low (1-4), and most of them were found at the side edge of the cactus stem. This system can remove glochids from 360 cactus stems in 1 hr regardless of cactus size. Conclusions: The performance of the new system in glochids removal without damaging cactus skin is superior to any other existing device (i.e., brush type, rubber-friction type, and agitation type). The system is expected to be applied in cactus (O. humifusa) processing facilities.

압력 릴리프 밸브 스템부 운동 및 유동 연계해석 기법 (Analysis of Pressure Relief Valve Considering Interaction between Valve Stem Motion and Flow)

  • 본 연구에서는 발사체 추진제 탱크에 적용되는 압력 릴리프 밸브에 대한 모델링 방법을 제시하였다. 압력 릴리프 밸브의 유동저항은 밸브 스탬의 정지 위치에 대한 이동거리에 의해서 결정된다. 밸브 스탬의 위치는 스탬의 질량, 스프링의 탄성계수, 마찰저항, 차압 등에 의존하며 일반적으로 시스탬 운용 시간에 걸쳐 변하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 밸브 스템부 운동 및 그에 따른 유동저항의 천이를 제시하였다. 다른 종류의 밸브와는 달리 압력 릴리프 밸브는 일반적으로 밸브 전 후단의 차압이 크기 때문에 밸브목 근처에서 유량이 음속에 의해 제한되는 쵸킹 현상이 발생한다. 따라서 압력릴리프 밸브 설계 시에는 이러한 쵸킹 현상을 고려해야 하며 본 논문에서는 쵸킹을 고려한 경우와 고려하지 않은 경우에 대한 결과를 비교하여 제시하였다. 또한 스탬부 직경 및 스프링 탄성계수에 의한 밸브의 벤트 성능을 제시하였다.

원심 압축기의 성능 예측 (Performance Prediction of Centrifugal Compressors)

  • The present study has been carried out to develop a computational procedure for the analysis of the off-design performance in centrifugal compressors with vaneless diffusers by integrating empirical loss models and analytical equations. Losses in centrifugal compressors stem from a number of sources and their exact calculation is not yet possible. This study investigates several modeling schemes and shows that a fairly good prediction can be achieved by a proper selection of the most important flow parameters resulting form a meanline one-dimensional analysis. The performance maps for compressors are calculated and compared with measured performance maps. The off-design performance characteristics in terms of the pressure ratio vs. mass flow produced have generally correct forms. However, no universal means have been found to predict accurately the onset of surge. The prediction method developed through this study can serve as a tool to ensure good matching between parts and it can assist the understanding of the operational characteristics of general purpose centrifugal compressors.
