This study was attempted to investigate the pneumatic separation on separating unit of a combine harvester. The aerodynamic characteristics of threshed materials were analyzed by experiments. The air velocity distribution within the separation chamber was measured for various speeds of the winnower and suction fans to find out the operational and design conditions of the separating unit which would serve for reducing the grain loss from chaff outlet. The results of study arc summarized as follows: 1. Based on the separation curve of threshed materials analyzed, it was shown that three different kind. of materials-kernels, straw chaff, and leaf chaff were as a whole able to be separated pneumatically, regardless of varieties. However, a small amount of the separation grain loss may be expected to occur if the complete separation between kernels and straw chaff would be undertaken because some portion of their separation curve were overlapping. 2. The analysis of air velocity distribution showed that the separation chamber may be divided into two regions, the discharging and separating. The air velocity of the discharging region was 5-15 m/s and that of the separating region 2-5 m/s. 3. The air movement of the separation chamber may be a turbulence flow, being its speed became greater as it moves from the left to the right section of the separation chamber. The equi-speed line. of air flow had a steep gradient in between the discharging and the separation regions. The air velocity in the discharging region was much higher than the terminal velocity of kernels, because of which those kernels appearing in the region could be possibly exhausted as the grain loss from the chaff outlet. 4. The motion trajectory of threshed material in the separating region was dominantly affected by the winnower fan, on the other hand, its motion in the discharging region was affected by suction fan. 5. The grain loss from the chaff outlet was affected greatly by the winnower fan and the trace of kernel movement. It was observed that the optimum working speed to give minimum grain loss from chaff outlet for the combine tested should be maintained at 950~1,150 rpm for the winnower fan and 1,850 rpm for the suction fan. 6. It was shown that a large portion of grain loss from chaff outlet may occur when the kernels may bump against a portion of separation chamber wall and those kernels thus scattered into the discharging region were sucked by the suction fan. It was accordingly recommended that a new design of the wall of separation chamber so as to bump down kernels may be necessary to reduce grain loss from the chaff outlet.
In the Korean seas, Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and Thermal Fronts (TF) were analyzed temporally and spatially during 8 years from 1993 to 2000 using NOAA/AVHRR MCSST. As the result of harmonic analysis, distributions of the mean SST were $10~25^{\circ}C,$ and generally SST decreased as latitude increased. SST increased in the order as following; the South Sea $(20\~23^{\circ}C),$ the East Sea $(17\~19^{\circ}C)$, and the West $Sea(13\~16^{\circ}C).$ Annual amplitudes and phases were $4\~11^{\circ}C,\;210\~240^{\circ}$ and high values were shown as following; the West Sea $(A1,\;9\~11^{\circ}C),$ the Northern East Sea $(A5,\;8\~9^{\circ}C),$ the Southern East Sea $(A4,\;6\~8^{\circ}C),$ the South Sea $(A3,\;6\~7^{\circ}C),$ the East China Sea $(A2,\;4\~7^{\circ}C)$ and phases; $A3\;(238\~242^{\circ}),\;A4\;(235\~240^{\circ}),\;A5\;(225\~235^{\circ}),\;Al\;(220\~230^{\circ}),\;A2\;(210\~235^{\circ}),$ respectively, Both of them were related inversely except the area A2, therefore the rest areas were affected by seasonal variations. TF were detected by Soble Edge Detection Method using gradient of SST. Consequently, TF were divided into 4 fronts; the Subpolar Front (SPF) based on the Cold Water Mass (low SST and salinity Subartic Water), resulting from the North Korea Cold Current (NKCC) and the East Sea Proper Cold Water in the middle and low layer, and the Warm Water Mass (high SST and salinity Subtropical Water), resulting from the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC) in area A4 and 5, the Kuroshio Front (KF) based on the Kuroshio Current (KC) and shelf waters in the East China Sea (ESC) in A2, and the South Sea Coastal Front (SSCF) based on the South Sea Coastal Water (SSCW) and TWC in A3. Also, the Tidal Front was weakly appeared in AI. TF located in steep slope of submarine topography. Annual amplitudes and phases were bounded in the same place, and these results should be considered to influence of seasonal variations.
A series of pore water data were obtained during the different time over one year period between October 1987 and October 1988, from a site on a muddy intertidal flat, located in the Kyeong-gi Bay, west coast of Korea, The results have revealed that the tidal flat is an environment of active nutrient the subface supplied by the overlying seawater is almost completely removed from the pore water at depth of about 10 cm below the sediment surface. The nutrients such as ammonium and phosphate are produced through this process and subsequently accumulated in the pore water forming steep gradients near the sediment surface. Below the main sulfate redirection zone, a secondary peak of dissolved sulfate was often observed. Greal seasonal variation of the pore water nutrient profiles was observed, which was particularly clear in their maximum concentration as well as in their concentration gradient. The rate constants of sulfate reduction and nutrient regeneration, estimated by using a diagenetic model (Berner, 1980), differ by an order of magnitude between the summer and winter seasons. The difference in sediment temperature may account for most of the calculated variation. The C:N:P ratio, calculated from the pore water nutrient gradients also exhibits a slight seasonal difference. The organic matter being decomposed by sulfate reduction appears to be depleted in depleted in nitrogen, compared to the average marine organic matter.

In order to figure out hydrodynamic and water quality changes after completion of dike construction of the Saemangeum, which behaves as a semi-enclosed estuarine lake, numerical simulations based on fine grid structure by using EFDC were intensively carried out. In this study some limitations of precedent study has been improved and gate operation were considered. Also 3 phases such as air-water-sediment interaction modeling was considered. It is clear that inner mixing of the Saemangeum is dominated by Mankyeong and Dongjin riverine discharges rather than the gate opening influence through the Lagrangian particle tracking simulations. Vertical DO structure after the dike completion shows steep gradient especially at Dongjin river estuary due to lessen of outer sea water exchange. Increasing SOD at stagnantly changed man-made reservoir might cause oxygen deficiency and accelerating degradation of water quality. According to TSI evaluation test representing eutrophication status, it shows high possibility of eutrophication along Mankyeong waterway in spite of dike completion, while the index is getting high after final closing along Dongjin waterway. Numerical tests with gate operations show significant differences in water quality. Thus it should be noted that proper gate operation plays a major role in preserving target water quality and management for inner development plan.

This paper presents a modeling study of thermal dynamics and turbid current in the Obong Lake, Kangreung. The lake formed by the artificial dam in 1983 for agricultural water supply, is currently under consideration of reconstruction in order to expand the volume of reservoir for water supply and flood control in downstream area. The US Army Corps of Engineers' CE-QUAL-W2, a two-dimensional laterally averaged hydrodynamic and water quality model, was applied to the lake after reconstruction as well as the present lake. The model calibration and verification were conducted against surface water levels and temperature of the lake measured during the years of 2001 and 2003. The model results showed a good agreement with fold measurements both in calibration and verification. Utilizing the validated model, an impact of dam reconstruction on vertical temperature and hydrodynamics were predicted. The model results showed that steep temperature gradient between epilimnion and hypolimnion would be formed during summer, along with extension of cold deep water after reconstruction. During winter and spring seasons, however, the vertical temperature profiles was predicted to be quite similar both before and after reconstruction. This results indicated that thermal stratification would become stronger during summer and stay longer after dam reconstruction. From the examination of predicted water movements, it was noticed that the upstream turbid current would infiltrate into the interface between metalimnion and hypolimnion and then suspended solids would slowly settle down to the bottom before reconstruction. After reconstruction, however, it was shown that the upstream turbid current would stay longer in metalimnion with similar density due to strong stratification. The model also predicted that dam reconstruction would make suspended solids near the dam location significantly decrease.

The purpose of this paper is to develop an efficient method for the quick determination of multiple isocenters plans to provide optimal dose distribution in sterotactic radiosurgery. A Spherical dose model was developed through the use of fit to the exact dose data calculated in a 18cm diameter of spherical head phantom. It computes dose quickly for each spherical part and is useful to estimate dose distribution for multiple isocenters. An automatic computer search algorithm was developed using the relationship between the isocenter move and the change of dose shape, and adapted with a spherical dose model to determine isocenter separation and cellimator sizes quickly and automatically. A spheric81 dose model shows a comparable isodose distribution with exact dose data and permits rapid calculations of 3-D isodoses. the computer search can provide reasonable isocenter settings more quickly than trial and error types of plans, while producing steep dose gradient around target boundary. A spherical dose model can be used for the quick determination of the multiple isocenter plans with 3 computer automatic search. Our guideline is useful to determine the initial multiple isocenter plans.

305 samples of alluvial deposit in inland and harbour districts were selected and consolidation charateristics of the alluvium were put in order statiscally. The correlations between them were as follows. 1. The relationships between LL(liguid limit) and Cc (compression index) were explained as Cc=0. 03(LL-21. 7) in case of inland district soil and as Cc=0. 019(LL-19) in case of harbour district soil. As compared with formular proposed by Skernpton, the gradient of this linear line was slight steep. 2. The relationships between PI(plastic index) and Cc were explained as Cc=0. 063 PI-0. 52 in case of inland district soil and Cc=0. 043 PI-0. 31 in case of harbour district soil. 3. As void ratio and natural moisture content were increased, Cc was increased, and as wet density was increased, Cc was decreased with a gentle curve. 4. As LL and P1 increased, mv(coefficient of volume compressibility) was increased but if LL and P1 was increased beyond a certain extend, mv has a tendency of constant value, that is, mv show a tendency to take constant value in the very soft clay. and mv in P=2. 5kg/cm$^2$ was about l${\times}$ l0-$^1$cm$^2$/kg in case of land district soil and 6x 10-$^1$crn$^2$/kg in case of harbour district soil lower than that in P=0. 25kg/crn2. 5. Cv(coefficient of consolidation) was a tendency to decrease with a gentle curve as LL was increased, and Cv in P=0. 25kg/crn2 was about 3x l0-$^1$crn$^2$/min larger than that in P=2. 5kg/crn$^2$. 6. Relationships between Py(pre-consolidation pressure) which is included over consolidation soil and ∑r1h(effective over-burden pressure) were explained as Py=l. 12 ∑r'h in case of land district soil and as Py=l. l5∑r'h in case of harbour district soil. 7. Some of the properties show good correlations between them, practical and effective applications of these correlations are expected in the planning and excution of soil investigation and also in the evaluation of the results.
Water quality fluctuation of Gyeongan water area in Paldang reservoir, which measured from the downstream sampling point of Gyeongan stream (G1) to dam sampling point (P), was examined in the light of seasonal rainfall and regional difference in the year of 2002. Annual COD, T-P and T-N concentration dropped conspicuously at the point P (in front of dam) although concentration of Gl point was high. Concentration variation of COD, T-P and T-N from Gl to P point in Gyeongan area was small in August and September. And at G l point showed relatively low concentration. Chlorophyll-a concentration varies less during the autumn season (October to December) than spring season (March to June). Water temperature of Bughangang (north Han-river) area was relatively lower in August and higher in November compared with that of other areas. COD and SS concentration showed big regional difference except in November when the concentrations of which were relatively low. The high Chlorophyll-a concentration of April fell conspicuously in rainy season. Gyeongan area, where the water depth is relatively shallow, indicated steep temperature gradient in April compared with that in August or November. High 55 concentration in April at P point characterized surface layer while the opposite was recorded in August. Mixing of upper and lower layers had taken place causing dilution of COD, T-N and T-P concentration in August. This condition was maintained throughout November. Therefore, spring-summer seasons needed more attention for water management countermeasure than summer-autumn seasons.

Multi-beam echosounder data and grain size analysis data of surface sediment were acquired and analyzed in order to investigate the shelf-to-slope morphology, geological character, and their geological controlling factors in the southwestern margin of the Ulleung Basin. According to the morphological character, the continental shelf can be divided into two parts: (1) shallow (~100 m) and steep ($0.5^{\circ}$) inner shelf, (2) deep (100-300 m) and gentle ($0.2^{\circ}$) outer shelf. The continental slope is featured with eight distinct topographic depressions of various spatial dimension (~121 $km^2$ in area) and head wall gradient (${\sim}24.3^{\circ}$). They are developed adjacent to each other and presumably formed by submarine landslides which have recurred under the strong influences of earthquakes and eustatic sea-level change. The inner continental shelf and the continental slope are dominated by fine-grained sediment, whereas the outer continental shelf is dominated by coarse-grained sediment. The surface sediment distribution seems dominantly influenced by eustatic sea-level change. The outer continental shelf is mostly covered by coarse relict sediment deposited during lowstand sea-level, while the inner shelf is covered with recent sediment during highstand sea-level. The surface of the continental slope is covered with fine-grained sediments which were supplied by hemipelagic advection process.
Vertical structures of wind-driven and tidal currents in a rectangular shaped uniform-depth basin of homogeneous water have been investigated using a mode-splitted, multi-level grid-box, hydrodynamic numerical model. The model was verified using analytical solutions for various vertical eddy viscosity profiles such as: a constant eddy viscosity, a linearly decreasing or increasing variation with depth, a quadratic variation with depth and an exponential variation with depth. Particular attention has been paid on the effects of "near-surface wall layer" on vertical shear of velocity. In numerical calculations, the whole water depth was divided into 13 levels with an unequal grid spacing. the model satisfactorily reproduces the velocity profile, but in case the eddy viscosity decreases rapidly with depth as in quadratical or exponential variation with depth, the vertical gradient of velocity near the bottom became very steep, and analytical solutions and numerical results showed some discrepancy. The vertical structures of horizontal velocity vary with both the depth-averaged value of eddy viscosity and its profiles. the velocity near the sea surface and near the bottom responded sensitively to the eddy viscosity of wall layer. For wind-driven current, the strong velocity shear was generated near the sea surface as eddy viscosity near the surface became small. For tidal current, the velocity above the sea bottom layer was almost constant regardless of the profiles of vertical eddy viscosity, but velocity in the sea bottom layer showed strong shear as eddy viscosity became small.
