A three-dimensional numerical model called NEWTANK is employed to investigate solitary wave run-up with an internal wave-maker on a steep slope. The numerical model solves the spatially averaged Navier-Stokes equations for two-phase flows. The LES (large-eddy-simulation) approach is adopted to model the turbulence effect by using the Smagorinsky SGS (sub-grid scale) closure model. A two-step projection method is adopted in numerical solutions, aided by the Bi-CGSTAB (Bi-Conjugate Gradient Stabilized) method to solve the pressure Poisson equation for the filtered pressure field. The second-order accurate VOF (volume-of-fluid) method is used to track the distorted and broken free surface. A solitary wave is first internally generated and propagated over a constant water depth in the three-dimensional domain. Numerically predicted results are compared with analytical solutions and numerical errors are analyzed in detail. The model is then applied to study solitary wave run-up on a steep slope and the obtained results are compared with available laboratory measurements.

In this study, loading tests and a strength evaluation of the bogie frame were conducted to verify the structural safety of the bogie system in an intermodal tram, which runs with cars on a road track. The loads were calculated taking into account the features of the road track with many sharp curves and steep gradients, which are different from the track of conventional railway. They were compared with the loads specified in the previous standard specifications. After the comparison, it was confirmed that the loads acting on the bogie system operating on a road track are slightly different from the specified loads. The specified vertical load of the standard specification for all kinds of trains is conservative, but the specified lateral and longitudinal loads are less than the calculated loads. The application of the actual loads was proven to be reasonable in the development of a new railway system. Based on the defined loads, the bogie frame was fabricated on which strain gauges were attached. It was set on the large loading frame so that the stresses could be measured when loads were applied by hydraulic actuators. After measuring the stresses, it was shown that they were below the allowable stress, which verified the structural safety of the bogie frame.
Artificial disturbance in mountainous areas increases the sensitivity to erosion by exposure of the subsoil with a low loam ratio to the surface. In this study, rainfall simulations were conducted to evaluate the erodibility of sand and loamy sand in the interrill erosion by the rainfall-induced sheet flow. The mean diameters of sand and loamy sand used in the experiment were 0.936 mm and 0.611 mm, respectively, and the organic matter content was 2.0% and 4.2%, respectively. In the experimental plot, the runoff coefficient of overland flow increased 1.16 times in loamy sand rather than sand. Mean sediment yields of loamy sand and sand by sheet erosion were 3.71kg/m2/hr and 1.13kg/m2/hr respectively. The erodibility, the rate of soil erosion for rainfall erosivity factor, was 3.65 times greater in loamy sand than in sand. As the gradient of the steep slope increased from 24° to 28°, the sediment concentration and the erodibility for two soils increased by about 20%. The erodibility factor K of sandy soils for small plots was overestimated compared to the measured erodibility. This means that RUSLE can overestimate the sediment yields by sheet erosion on sandy soils.

In this study, the effects of the surface topographical characteristics on the meteorological fields are examined in a mesoscale meteorlolgical model. We calculated the direct solar radiation using the illumination angle considering the inclination of topography and tried to find out its effect on meteorological fields. In above experiments, we selected two cases for the clear day and the cloudy day to show the effect of weather and represented the results for two cases. In the correction of the direct solar radiation, the results of two cases indicate that there are obvious differences on the steep Taeback and Soback mountains. And on the time-series analysis the east-facing slope of these mountains receives the more direct solar radiation about $10-60W/m^2$ in the morning hours but lesser in the afternoon hours than the horizontal surface while it is opposite on the west-facing slope. And the results mentioned above are more obvious at clear day. With the same analysis method, at clear day, the surface skin temperature is higher at all hours than that on horizontal surface on the both of slope. At cloudy and rainy day, the surface skin temperature on the east-facing slope is higher in the morning hours but lower in the afternoon hours than that on horizontal surface. But on the west-facing slope, it is higher at all hours than that on horizontal surface. In the two cases, the temperature considering the slope of surface is almost higher than that on the horizontal surface. The wind is stronger than that on the horizontal surface with increasing pressure gradient force according as increasing temperature gradient around the Taeback and the Soback mountains.
Forest road (10 Km) constructed for the demonstrational purpose by Forest Work Training Center (F.T.C.) in 1984 was partly damaged through the roadside landside and ditch erosion by the typhoon in 1986. The causes were investigated to apply for protecting against the damage of mountain forest road. The damaging length caused by roadside landside is around 3% out of total length of 10 Km forest road, and mostly coming from the curve road filled up more than 10 m slope length on the concave mountain slope, partly from the foot of fillslope along the ever-following valley and from the both side of fillslope under the outlet of culvert with ever-flowing water. In case of ditch erosion, the big damage at V-type ditch is coming from the overflow of valley water flowing down along the inside slope. Other problem is also showing in the steepness of longitudial gradient, which is felt as a problem in road to be constructed under more than 10 persent of gradient. Other cause of ditch erosion is coming from the bury of sand basin (water collecting wall) by the debris in small diameter culvert zone, namely less than 400mm, in diameter and by the soil mass slumped down from steep wall slope. From above results the causes of F.T.C. model road damage is showing to come from no-following the general guide or little experience to protect against the forest road damage. When improved above mentioned mistakes, F.T.C. Method of mountain forest road type could be developed as a model of Mountain forest road.

This study was aimed at suggest a proper logging method of mountain forest using geographic information system(GIS) based on digital terrain model(DTM) in the National Forest at Mt. Kumsan in Namhae-gun, Gyungsangnam-do, which has about 2,948 ha in area. The areal percentage of 201 to 250m in the elevation was about 15.5%, elevation of 251 to 300m was 14.5%, and 78.75% for higher than 400m. The accumulated areal percentage of below 30% in the gradient was 17.2%, and 81.0% for steeper than 60%. The area for tractor skidding was 17.2%(511.7ha), the area for tractor attached winch skidding was 63.8%(1,896.3ha) and 18.4%(545.5ha) for cable yarding. It is important to choose the proper logging machines for timber harvesting. In general, the selection of logging operation system was affected several major environmental factors like as terrain conditions(slope gradient, slope length) and stand factors. The rate of middle slope gradients in terrain conditions showed higher than that of steep slope gradients in this area. Therefore, it considered that the logging operation system in this area could apply to tractor+winch operating machine according to terrain conditions.

Analytic solutions for the gradient of surface elevation and vertical profiles of velocity driven by the wind stress in the one-dimensional rectangular basin were obtained under the assumption of steady-state. The approach treats the bottom frictional stress $\tau$$_{b}$ as known and includes vertically varying eddy viscosity $textsc{k}$$_{M}$, which is constant, linear and quadratic of water depth. When the $\tau$$_{b}$ is param-terized with surface stress, depth averaged velocity and bottom velocity, the result shows the relation of the no-slip bottom velocity condition and the bottom frictional stress $\tau$$_{b}$. The results of a mode splitted, (x-$\sigma$) coordinate, numerical model were compared with the derived analytic solutions. The comparison was made for the case such that $textsc{k}$$_{M}$ is the constant, linear and quadratic function of water depth. In the case of constant $textsc{k}$$_{M}$, the gradient of surface elevation and vertical profiles of velocity are discussed for a uniform depth, a mild slope and a relatively steep slope. When $textsc{k}$$_{M}$ is a linear and quadratic function of water depth, the vertical structures of velocities are discussed for various $\tau$$_{b}$. The result of the comparison shows that the vertical structure of velocities depends not only on the value of $textsc{k}$$_{M}$ but also on the profile of $textsc{k}$$_{M}$ and bottom stress $\tau$$_{b}$. Model results were in a good agreement with the analytic solutions considered in this study.his study.y.his study.
A horizontally curvilinear non-hydrostatic free surface model that was applicable to three-dimensional viscous flows was developed. The proposed model employed a top-layer equation to close kinematic free-surface boundary condition, and an isotropic k-${\varepsilon}$ model to close turbulence viscosity in the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation. The model solved the governing equations with a fractional step method, which solved intermediate velocities in the advection-diffusion step, and corrects these provisional velocities by accounting for source terms including pressure gradient and gravity acceleration. Numerical applications were implemented to the wind-driven currents in a two-dimensional closed basin, the flow in a steep-sided trench, and the flow in a strongly-curved channel accounting for secondary current by the centrifugal force. Through the numerical simulations, the model showed its capability that were in good agreement with experimental data with respect to free surface elevation, velocity, and turbulence characteristics.
This paper treats with some of plasma jet behaviors under magnetic field for the purpose of controlling important characteristics of plasma jet in the practices of material manufacturings. Under the existence and non-existence of magnetic field, the pressure distribution, flame length, stability and noise of plasma jet are comparatively evaluated in respect of such parameters as are current, gap of electrode, quantity of argon flow, magnetic flux density, diameter and length of nozzle. The results are as follows: 1) the pressure, the length and the noise of plasma jet rise gradually with the increase of are current, and have high values under identical arc current as the diameter of nozzle increases, but reverse phenomenon tends to appear in the noise. 2) The pressure, the flame length and the noise increase with the increased quantity of argon flow, and the rising slope of noise is particularly steep. Under magnetic field, the quantity of argon flow in respect of flame length has the critical value of 80(cfh). 3) The pressure and length of flame decrease with small gradient value as the length of gap increases, but the noise tends to grow according to the increase of nozzle diameter. 4) The pressure and the length of jet flame decrease inversly with the increase of magnetic flux density, which have one critical value in the 100 amps of arc current and two values in 50 amps. The pressure of jet flame can be below atomospher pressure in strong magnetic field. 5) "The constriction length of nozzle has respectively the critical value of 6(mm) for pressure and 23(mm) for the length of flame. 6) Fluctuations in the wave form of voltage become greater with the increase of argon flow and magnetic flux density, but tends to decrease as arc current increases, having the frequency range of 3-8KHz. The wave form of noise changes almost in parallel with that of voltage and its changing value increases with argon flow, arc current and magnetic flux density, having the freuqency range of 6-8KHz. The fluctuation of jet presurre is reduced with the increase of argon flow and magnetic flux density and grows with arc current.rent.

The characteristics of flows, temperatures, concentrations of the boron are numerically studied when uniform axial magnetic fields are applied in the Czechralski crucible. The to governing factors to the flow regimes are buoyancy, thermocapillarity, centrifugal forces, magnetic forces, diffusion coefficient and segregation coefficient of the boron. Since the concentration of the boron is so low that buoyancy effects are negligible, it cannot affect the flow and temperature fields. From the fact that the flow fields are rotationally symmetric, two velocity components in the meridional plane and the circumferential velocity are calculated together with the temperature in the steady state. Based on the known velocity and temperature distributions the unsteady concentration distributions of the boron are calculated. As the strength of the magnetic is increased, the flow velocities are decreased. Circumferential velocities are large near the crucible side-wall and in the region below the rotating crystal. Steep temperatures gradient near the edge of the rotating crystal causes the Marangoni convection. It has been found out that the convection characteristics affects the unsteady transport phenomena of the boron.
