Three bronze bells excavated from the Hoeamsa temple site were investigated for their microstructures and chemical compositions in an effort to understand the technology applied in fabrication, which may represent the related industry established in the early Joseon period. The result shows that the bells were cast from alloys of approximately 85% copper-8% tin-7% lead. The chemical analysis for ten trace elements shows that they were all kept below 0.3 weight %, suggesting that the alloys were made of relatively well-refined copper, tin and lead. The presence of sulfur and iron indicates that chalcopyrite or chalcocite may have been used in the smelting of copper. Evidence has been found that the bells were cast by pouring the liquid metal from the top of the sand molds that were set up in an upright position. No additional treatments, thermal or mechanical, other than a little grinding were applied upon the completion of casting. After the shaping process, a balancing plate was attached to the top of the bell using a steel connection ring. The connection assembly was then fixed to the main body by using molten bronze as a solder. The surface inscription was found carved using different techniques. The differences in the order of strokes and the calligraphic style indicate that the carving was carried out by more than one master. In the absence of documentary evidence on past bronze technology, the present bronze bells with known chronology, provenance and the main agent of production, prove to be a rare and valuable archaeological material for the understanding of the related technology in use in the early Joseon period.

A technique was researched to detect bolt looseness using a transfer impedance technique (the dual piezoelectric material technique) for monitoring the structural health of a bolt joint. In order to use the single piezoelectric material technique, an expensive impedance analyzer should be used. However, in the transfer impedance technique, low-cost fault detection can be performed using a general function generator and a digital multimeter. A steel plate frame test specimen composed of bolt joints was fabricated, and the tightening torques of the bolts were loosened step by step. By using the transfer impedance method, the damage index was obtained. It was found that the presence of faults could be reasonably estimated using the damage index, which increased with the degree of bolt looseness. An experiment was performed on the same specimen using the single piezoelectric material technique, and the results showed a similar tendency. It could be possible to estimate the damage of a bolt joint at low cost by eliminating the expensive impedance analyzer. This method could be used effectively for structural health monitoring after carrying out a study to estimate the fault location and severity.
As a study on ballistic protection performance of a weapon system that is used in combat simulation, this paper aims to propose an improvement effect of the ballistic protection performance varying with incident angle of a bullet. For this, live-fire ballistic tests were performed to determine either complete penetration(CP) and partial penetration(PP) of three types of general armor plates made of uniformly rolled steel plates against a small caliber threat using 5.45 mm bullets with various speed. The major test parameter was the material of the weapon system and incident angle of the bullet with the target. Further, to quantitatively analyze the ballistic protection performance, three existing measurement methods were used for ballistic limit velocity. The test results showed that the ballistic protection performance with the incident angle of 30 degrees was 4% to 14% varying with the material of the armor plates greater than that of 0 degrees, which was approximately 1.1 times the performance improvement on average when compared to the conventional angle of incidence of the 0 degree. Those test results are expected to contribute to developing a more realistic combat simulation addressing the parameter improving the ballistic protection performance of an armor plate.

In this study, characteristics of effect on hydrogen gas was investigated to hydrogen embrittlement by disk and tensile tests. The developed and commercial alloy was fabricated to a plate material made from an alloy ingot. The prepared materials were processed in the form of a disk to measure rupture pressure by hydrogen and helium gas at a rate of 0.1 to 1,000 bar/min. In the hydrogen pre-charged tensile test, a specimen was hydrogenated using an anode charging method, and the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, elongation, and reduction in area rate were carried by a strain rate test. Also, the microstructure was observed to the fracture surface of the tensile test specimen. As a result, the developed materials satisfied endurable hydrogen embrittlement, and the fractured surface showed a brittleness fracture surface with a depth of several ㎛, but dimple due to ductile fracture could be observed.
To study the evaluation standard and control limit of mortar filling layer void length, in this paper, the train sub-model was developed by MATLAB and the track-bridge sub-model considering the mortar filling layer void was established by ANSYS. The two sub-models were assembled into a train-track-bridge coupling dynamic model through the wheel-rail contact relationship, and the validity was corroborated by the coupling dynamic model with the literature model. Considering the randomness of fastening stiffness, mortar elastic modulus, length of mortar filling layer void, and pier settlement, the test points were designed by the Box-Behnken method based on Design-Expert software. The coupled dynamic model was calculated, and the support vector regression (SVR) nonlinear mapping model of the wheel-rail system was established. The learning, prediction, and verification were carried out. Finally, the reliable probability of the amplification coefficient distribution of the response index of the train and structure in different ranges was obtained based on the SVR nonlinear mapping model and Latin hypercube sampling method. The limit of the length of the mortar filling layer void was, thus, obtained. The results show that the SVR nonlinear mapping model developed in this paper has a high fitting accuracy of 0.993, and the computational efficiency is significantly improved by 99.86%. It can be used to calculate the dynamic response of the wheel-rail system. The length of the mortar filling layer void significantly affects the wheel-rail vertical force, wheel weight load reduction ratio, rail vertical displacement, and track plate vertical displacement. The dynamic response of the track structure has a more significant effect on the limit value of the length of the mortar filling layer void than the dynamic response of the vehicle, and the rail vertical displacement is the most obvious. At 250 km/h - 350 km/h train running speed, the limit values of grade I, II, and III of the lengths of the mortar filling layer void are 3.932 m, 4.337 m, and 4.766 m, respectively. The results can provide some reference for the long-term service performance reliability of the ballastless track-bridge system of HRS.

Many studies have been conducted on the high tension bolt friction connection in the view of the field practice. Those effort, however, unfortunately have not been appropriately applied in the design specifications. Recently, particularly for steel bridges, rationalization of design takes greater attention from designers and hence, demand on rationalization of high tension connection becomes more significant. The purpose of this study is to suggest direction for the rationalization of high tension bolt connection and to also provide fundamental information for the improvement of the design specifications. In order to accomplish the purposes, the design specifications in Korea was analyzed and compared with other specification from abroad, and was studied one of the most important factors including slip coefficient, and the specifications on the size of bolt holes. The effect of over-sized bolt hole and the reduction of axial force on bolt was evaluated through the experimental studies on the slippage of the high tension bolt connections. Other research topics included herein includes the difference of slip coefficients, the effect of over-sized bolt holes and the gap distance of members, and the application of filler plate and corrosion protected bolts. From the research results, it is known that the specifications in Korea apply a constant slip coefficient with respect to the contacted surface conditions while various coefficients are available depending on the contacted surface conditions. Therefore, it is recommended that the specifications in Korea also develop and detail the slip coefficient which can appropriately take account of the variation of the contacted surface conditions. It is also suggested that the limitation abroad on the over-sized bolt hole may be applied for enhancing the effectiveness of construction.

For improvement and new design of tillage equipments, indoor test is very useful and more desirable than outdoor because the experiment of outdoor is very difficult and its cost is expensive. This study was carried out to determine the physical properties of artificial soil suitable for the indoor test with the soil bin manufactured at the workshop of the Dept. of Agricultural Machinery Engineering. The artificial soil being studied was made with very similarity to the natural soil of the experimental plots of Chungnam National University, and it consist of 39.35 percent, by weight of bentonite and 48.10 percent of sand with 12.55 percent of SAE 10W oil. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Bulk density increased with increasing number of rolling, and its relationship could be expressed. $y=1.073200+0.070780x-0.002263x^2$ where, y=bulk density ($g/cm^3$), x=number of rolling. These results could be explained that the effect of rolling velocity on the bulk density was not singnificant in the range of 4.5~10.4 em/sec. 2. The absolute soil hardness depended directly upon number of rolling, and their relationship could be expressed by the equation. $y=37.74(0.64 +0.17x-0.0054x^2)/(3.36-0.17x-0.0054x^2)^3$. where, y=absolute soil hardness($kg/cm^3$), x=number of rolling. 3. Relationship between the bulk density and absolute soil hardness could be expressed by the equation; $y=37.74(2.46x-2.02)/(6.02-2.46x)^3$. where, y=absolute soil hardness, x=bulk density. 4. The cohesion and the angle of internal friction of artificial soil were increased with increasing its bulk density. According to the cohesion and angle of internal friction, at the range of 1.60~1.75 ($g/cm^3$) of bulk density, this artificial soil was similar with sandy loam of 29.5% moisture content of natural soil. 5. Sliding-fricfion coefficient of steel plate on the artificial soil was 0.3~0.4 and rubber plate on it is 0.64~0.72. Those values were very similar with those of natural soil being studies by many others.
In this investigation, results of laboratory tests on four reinforced concrete flat plate interior connections with elongated rectangular column support which has been used widely in tall residential buildings are presented. The purpose of this study is to evaluate an effect of column aspect ratio (${\beta}_c={c_1}/{c_2}$=side length ratio of column section in the direction of lateral loading $(c_1)$ to the direction of perpendicular to $c_1$) on the hysteretic behavior under earthquake type loading. The aspect ratio of column section was taken as $0.5{\sim}3\;(c_1/c_2=1/2,\;1/1,\;2/1,\;3/1)$ and the column perimeter was held constant at 1200mm in order to achieve nominal vertical shear strength $(V_c)$ uniformly. Other design parameters such as flexural reinforcement ratio $(\rho)$ of the slab and concrete strength$(f_{ck})$ was kept constant as ${\rho}=1.0%$ and $f_{ck}=40MPa$, respectively. Gravity shear load $(V_g)$ was applied by 30 percent of nominal vertical shear strength $(0.3V_o)$ of the specimen. Experimental observations on punching failure pattern, peak lateral-load and story drift ratio at punching failure, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation in the hysteresis loop, and steel and concrete strain distributions near the column support were examined and discussed in accordance with different column aspect ratio. Eccentric shear stress model of ACI 318-05 was evaluated with experimental results. A fraction of transferring moment by shear and flexure in the design code was analyzed based on the test results.
In this research dairy cattle barn facilities what are 4,198 houses hold over 50 heads were surveyed by scale and province. Full-time farms hold over 50 heads breed total 344,514 heads. Each of Farms holds 50 to 99 heads were 79.8 percent and breed average 82.1 heads. Dairy cattle barns were constructed september 1995 averagely. Each of barns have $1,740.0\;m^2$ scale. The construction type of dairy cattle barn was almost litter barn type 84.0%, freestyle type 5.1%, mooring+litter ground type 17.3% and other types 4.4%. The litter barn type was popular in small farms. But in large farms, freestyle type was popular than small farms. The construction type of dairy cattle barn was almost litter barn type 84.0%, freestyle type 5.1%, moohng+ltter ground type 17.3% and other types 4.4%. Type of dairy cattle robotic milking system was pipeline 41.5%, herringbone 22.8% and tandem 35.8%. The pipeline type was popular in small farms which have 50~99 heads. But in large farms which have over 200 heads, tandem type was popular than small farms. Proportion of floor type of dairy cattle barn was almost litter type 94.9%. Scraper type was popular in large farms than in small farms. Proportion of roof type of dairy cattle barn was slate 32.5%, vinyl 16.3%, sunlight 11.1%, panel 10.9, zinc plate 8.8 and steel plate 8.3%. Roof type was lots of slate type before 1995. But vinyl type is increasing after 1995. Proportion of wall type of dairy cattle barn was almost open type 83.3% and winch-curtain 26.8%. Utilization period of dairy cattle barn was 9.2 years about milker, 7.9 years about automatic feeder, 9.2 years about waterer and 10.4 years about electric facilities. In this results, there were lots of improvements about automatic feeder.
$NO_x$ is mainly emitted from mixed acid pickling process in the stainless industry and its impact to the environment has been worried over. This study which may be considered as one of the development of clean technologies, differing from the traditional end pipe technology is about how to reduce $NO_x$ emission through the modification of corresponding process. This study consists of two parts. First, the influence of various reaction parameters in a acid pickling process on $NO_x$ emission was investigated. Second, the influence of hydrogen peroxide on $NO_x$ formation, which is known as inhibitor of $NO_x$ emission, was investigated. Major findings in this study are as follows. The important reaction parameters which have a great influence on $NO_x$ emission are the reaction temperature and the concentration of fluoric acid. The concentration of nitric acid, some of which results in $NO_x$ compound is not as important as the concentration of fluoric acid. Synthetic mixed acid of nitric acid and fluoric acid itself in absent of pickling plate contributed the $NO_x$ emission, however, its impact was negligible in terms of quantity. The addition of hydrogen peroxide to the acid pickling process significantly contributed to the reduction of $NO_x$ emission and successfully achieved 80% reduction of $NO_x$ emission at the condition of $9.51{\times}10^{-2}mole\;hydrogen\;peroxide/m^2$ pickling area. This result was compared to literature value from Avesta steel process, indicating a sixth of hydrogen peroxide addition of Avesta's in achieving a same amount of $NO_x$ reduction. The region of the economic hydrogen peroxide addition per unit area of plate to be pickled from the result of this study was established.
