The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the compression behaviors of SSC (stiffened steel plate-concrete) and NSC (non-stiffened steel plate-concrete) structures, and to identify the effects of the increment in the structural performance of SSC structures. SCC structures are structures that integrate steel plates with line support from ribs (H-shape) and point supports from studs with concretes. On the other hand, NSC structures are structures that integrate steel plates with point supports from studs with concrete. The following results were obtained in this study. First, compared with NSC structures, it was shown that SSC structures have advantages in terms of preventing steel plate buckling and delaying quick destruction through the brittleness of concrete. In addition, the SSC structures showed a 5-28% increment in maximum compressive strength, which far surpassed that shown by the NSC structures.

This research is aimed to evaluate the effects of repair conditions, axial load intensities and the enlargement of cross sections after strengthening with steel plate and on the structural behavior of the reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial and lateral loadings. 6 columns were tested under uniform axial compression and concentrated load at the midspan until failiure occurs. As test results, It has been found that the amount of grout bar and the condition of strengthening significantly affect the behavior or reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 4 bar (C-G4S2 serise) and enlarged reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 8 bar (C-G8S2 serise) are increased to 1000% and 1200% in comparison of those of unstrengthened reinforced concrete columns, respectively

The purpose of this study is to investigate the fatigue behavior of the reinforced concrete beams strengthened with steel plate and CFS(csrbon fiber sheet). In this study, fatigue loads of 60 to 80 percent of the ultimate strength are applied to the specimens. From the results of test the beams strengthened with steel plate show the flexural failure mode, while the specimens strengthened with CFS fail by separation between CFS and concrete surface. In case of the stress level of 70%, strength degradations of the beams with steel plate and CFS in normalized flexural rigidity at 5,000 cycles is 24 and is 24 and 28 percent respectively.

In recent years, strengthening by epoxy-bonded steel plates, carbon fiber sheets, aramid fiber sheets and so on, is spotlighted. Among them, the method using steel plates is most widely applied. Most studies have dealt with strengthening by epoxy-bonded steel plates. However the actual behavior of strengthened RC beams are not well established. Particularly, the studies on the separation load thar affects failure load of the beam are relatively insufficient. In this study, test parameters are the magnitude of pre-load, plate length, plate thickness, existence and spacing of anchor bolt, the number of plate layer and the height of side strengthening, 17reinforced concrete beams are strengthened by steel plates according to test parameters. Deflection, failure load, strains of reinforcing bar, concrete and plate are measured from tests(4 points loading). The failure mode, and separation load are analyzed from these measured data. The difference between Robert's theory and test results is discussed, and the prediction equation for separation load in the case of rip off is proposed.
Steel plate-concrete composite slabs provide attractive features, such as more effective loading transfer, and more cost-effective stay-in-place forms, thereby enabling engineers to design more high-performance light structures. Although significant studies in the literatures have been directed toward designing and implementing the steel plate-concrete composite beams, there are limited data available for understanding of the composite slabs. To fill this gap, nine the composite slabs with different variables in this study were tested to unveil the impacts of the critical factors on the ultimate strength behavior. The key information of the findings included sample failure modes, crack pattern, and ultimate strength behavior of the composite slabs under either four-point or three-point loading. Test results showed that the failure modes varied from delamination to shear failures under different design factors. Particularly, the shear stud spacing and thicknesses of the concrete slabs significantly affected their ultimate load-carrying capacities. Moreover, an analytical model of the composite slabs was derived for determining their ultimate load-carrying capacity and was well verified by the experimental data. Further extensive parametric study using the proposed analytical methods was conducted for a more comprehensive investigation of those critical factors in their performance. These findings are expected to help engineers to better understand the structural behavior of the steel plate-concrete composite slabs and to ensure reliability of design and performance throughout their service life.
The use of shear studs usually placed in the form of mechanical shear connectors makes it possible to adopt composite steel-concrete structures in various structures, and steel-concrete plate composite (SCP) is being seriously considered for the installation of storage tanks exposed to harsh environments. However, manufacturing of SCP must be based on the application of existing design guidelines which require very close arrangement of shear studs. This means that the direct application of current design guidelines usually produces very conservative results and close arrangement of shear studs precludes pouring concrete within exterior steel faceplates. In this light, an improved guideline to determine the stud spacing should be introduced, and this paper proposes an improved ratio of the stud spacing to the thickness of steel plate on the basis of numerous parametric studies to evaluate the relative influence of the stud spacing on the stability of the SCP.

The strength of shear connectors embedded in lightweight concrete slab with deck plate is influenced by various factors of deck plate, shear conncetor and concrete. Generally, it is reported that the strength of shear connector in lightweight concrete decreases in comparison with that in normal concrete. So this paper is to use compressive strength of lilghtweight concrete, width-height ratio of deck plate, and cross sectional area of shear conncetor as variables, to evaluate the strength of shear conncetors in composite beam of steel and lilghtweight concrete slabs with deck plate, and then to suggest the reasonable strength equation by comparing the push-out test results with establixhed strength formula. As the result of 24 specimens test, in case of lightweight concrete slab with deck plate, it has showed that in the same strength, the strength of shear connector decreased about 10~20% in comparison with that in normal concrete. In spite of lightweight concrete, the test results were closely approached the established strength formula of shear connector using Fisher's reduction coefficient.

Method of Steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet is advantageous in the secure loading facility. For this method are a light weight and a high strength, the thickness of steel can be reduced Effects of composite system are depreciated when the thickness of steel is thin. This is the result of the difference of ductility ratio with steel plate. Steel plate reinforced by fiber sheets confirms the ability of transformation. This is the result of the property of steel materials Steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet didn't display an enough performance when theadhesives are epoxy rosin. This is the result of the slide of the surface of stee1. The adhesive ability is varied by the number and span of anchor bolts. There wasn't happening the separation between steel and epoxy. Thus the method used in combination with anchor and epoxy is best excellent. This is the result of the upward of accumulation effects Shearing force is in proportion to the number of bolts. But the ability of shearing force per one bolt is reducing. Thickness of steel plate reinforced by fiber sheet must be designed so that steel is endure before concrete is wreck.
This paper presents a new method to compute the shear strength of composited structural B-C-W members. These B-C-W members, defined as concrete-filled steel box beams, columns and shear walls, consist of a slender rectangular steel plate box filled with concrete and inserted steel plates connecting the two long-side steel plates. These structural elements are intended to be used in structural members of super-tall buildings and nuclear safety-related structures. The concrete confined by the steel plate acts to be in a multi-axial stressed state: therefore, its shear strength was calculated on the basis of a concrete's failure criterion model. The shear strength of the steel plates on the long sides of the structural element was computed using the von Mises plastic strength theory without taking into account the buckling of the steel plate. The spacing and strength of the inserted plates to induce plate yielding before buckling was determined using elastic plate theory. Therefore, a predictive method to compute the shear strength of composited structural B-C-W members without considering the shear span ratio was obtained. A coefficient considering the influence of the shear span ratio was introduced into the formula to compute the anti-lateral bearing capacity of composited structural B-C-W members. Comparisons were made between the numerical results and the test results along with this method to predict the anti-lateral bearing capacity of concrete-filled steel box walls. Nonlinear static analysis of concrete-filled steel box walls was also conducted by using ABAQUS and the results agreed well with the experimental data.
Steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich structures have important advantages over conventional concrete structures, however, bond-slip between the steel plate and concrete may lead to a loss of composite action, resulting in a reduction of stiffness and fatigue life of SCS sandwich structures. Due to the inaccessibility and invisibility of the interface, the interfacial performance monitoring and debonding detection using traditional measurement methods, such as relative displacement between the steel plate and core concrete, have proved challenging. In this work, two methods using piezoelectric transducers are proposed to detect the bond-slip between steel plate and core concrete during the test of the beam. The first one is acoustic emission (AE) method, which can detect the dynamic process of bond-slip. AE signals can be detected when initial micro cracks form and indicate the damage severity, types and locations. The second is electromechanical impedance (EMI) method, which can be used to evaluate the damage due to bond-slip through comparing with the reference data in static state, even if the bond-slip is invisible and suspends. In this work, the experiment is implemented to demonstrate the bond-slip monitoring using above methods. Experimental results and further analysis show the validity and unique advantage of the proposed methods.
