Proper calculation of splitting tensile strength (STS) of concrete has been a crucial task, due to the wide use of concrete in the construction sector. Following many recent studies that have proposed various predictive models for this aim, this study suggests and tests the functionality of three hybrid models in predicting the STS from the characteristics of the mixture components including cement compressive strength, cement tensile strength, curing age, the maximum size of the crushed stone, stone powder content, sand fine modulus, water to binder ratio, and the ratio of sand. A multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network incorporates invasive weed optimization (IWO), cuttlefish optimization algorithm (CFOA), and electrostatic discharge algorithm (ESDA) which are among the newest optimization techniques. A dataset from the earlier literature is used for exploring and extrapolating the STS behavior. The results acquired from several accuracy criteria demonstrated a nice learning capability for all three hybrid models viz. IWO-MLP, CFOA-MLP, and ESDA-MLP. Also in the prediction phase, the prediction products were in a promising agreement (above 88%) with experimental results. However, a comparative look revealed the ESDA-MLP as the most accurate predictor. Considering mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) index, the error of ESDA-MLP was 9.05%, while the corresponding value for IWO-MLP and CFOA-MLP was 9.17 and 13.97%, respectively. Since the combination of MLP and ESDA can be an effective tool for optimizing the concrete mixture toward a desirable STS, the last part of this study is dedicated to extracting a predictive formula from this model.
In this paper, buckling and free vibration of imperfect, functionally graded beams, including porosities, are investigated, using a higher order shear strain theory. Due to defects during the manufacturing process, micro porosities may appear in the material, hence the appearance of this imperfection in the structure. The material properties of the beams are assumed to vary regularly, with power and sigmoid law, in the direction of thickness. A novel porosity distribution affecting the functionally graded volume fraction is presented. For the compact formulation used for cementite-based materials and already used in P-FGM, we have adapted it for the distribution of S-FGM. The equations of motion in the FG beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The boundary conditions for beam FG are assumed to be simply supported. Navier's solution is used to obtain the closed form solutions of the FG beam. The numerical results of this work are compared with those of other published research to verify accuracy and reliability. The comparisons of different shear shape functions, the influence of porosity, thickness and inhomogeneity parameters on buckling and free vibration of the FG beam are all discussed. It is established that the present work is more precise than certain theories developed previously.
In the realm of nanotechnology, the nonlocal strain gradient theory takes center stage as it scrutinizes the behavior of spinning cantilever nanobeams and nanotubes, pivotal components supporting various mechanical movements in sport structures. The dynamics of these structures have sparked debates within the scientific community, with some contending that nonlocal cantilever models fail to predict dynamic softening, while others propose that they can indeed exhibit stiffness softening characteristics. To address these disparities, this paper investigates the dynamic response of a nonlocal cantilever cylindrical beam under the influence of external discontinuous dynamic loads. The study employs four distinct models: the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, Timoshenko beam model, higher-order beam model, and a novel higher-order tube model. These models account for the effects of functionally graded materials (FGMs) in the radial tube direction, giving rise to nanotubes with varying properties. The Hamilton principle is employed to formulate the governing differential equations and precise boundary conditions. These equations are subsequently solved using the generalized differential quadrature element technique (GDQEM). This research not only advances our understanding of the dynamic behavior of nanotubes but also reveals the intriguing phenomena of both hardening and softening in the nonlocal parameter within cantilever nanostructures. Moreover, the findings hold promise for practical applications, including drug delivery, where the controlled vibrations of nanotubes can enhance the precision and efficiency of medication transport within the human body. By exploring the multifaceted characteristics of nanotubes, this study not only contributes to the design and manufacturing of rotating nanostructures but also offers insights into their potential role in revolutionizing drug delivery systems.

Plastic greenhouses are simple structures consisting of lightweight materials such as steel pipes and polyvinyl chloride. However, serious damage occurs due to heavy winds and typhoon every year. To prevent a collapse of structural members, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has distributed plans and specifications for disaster-resistant standards. Despite these efforts, more than 50% of greenhouses still do not satisfy the disaster-resistant standards. Among the greenhouses that do not meet these standards, 85% are single-span greenhouses proposed 20 years ago. Consequently, there is a need to evaluate the safety of wind loads for the single-span greenhouse. Unfortunately, there are no design specifications for the greenhouses under wind loads. Therefore, a Korean design standard (KDS) has been utilized. KDS is defined with reference to wind speeds occurring once every 500 years, raising concerns about potential overdesign when considering the durability of plastic greenhouses. To address this, the modified wind load, considering the durability of the plastic greenhouse, was calculated, and a safety evaluation was conducted for sigle G-type plastic greenhouse. It was observed that the moment acting on the windward surface was substantial, and there was a risk of the foundation being pulled out if the basic wind speed exceeded 32 m/s. In terms of the combination strength ratio, it was less than 1.0 only on the leeward side when the basic wind speed was 24 m/s and 26 m/s. However, in all other cases, it exceeded 1.0, indicating an unsafe condition and highlighting the necessity for reinforcement.
This paper was studied abouta technology for detecting damage to temporary works equipment used in construction sites with explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). Temporary works equipment is mostly composed of steel or aluminum, and it is reused several times due to the characters of the materials in temporary works equipment. However, it sometimes causes accidents at construction sites by using low or decreased quality of temporary works equipment because the regulation and restriction of reuse in them is not strict. Currently, safety rules such as related government laws, standards, and regulations for quality control of temporary works equipment have not been established. Additionally, the inspection results were often different according to the inspector's level of training. To overcome these limitations, a method based with AI and image processing technology was developed. In addition, it was devised by applying explainableartificial intelligence (XAI) technology so that the inspector makes more exact decision with resultsin damage detect with image analysis by the XAI which is a developed AI model for analysis of temporary works equipment. In the experiments, temporary works equipment was photographed with a 4k-quality camera, and the learned artificial intelligence model was trained with 610 labelingdata, and the accuracy was tested by analyzing the image recording data of temporary works equipment. As a result, the accuracy of damage detect by the XAI was 95.0% for the training dataset, 92.0% for the validation dataset, and 90.0% for the test dataset. This was shown aboutthe reliability of the performance of the developed artificial intelligence. It was verified for usability of explainable artificial intelligence to detect damage in temporary works equipment by the experiments. However, to improve the level of commercial software, the XAI need to be trained more by real data set and the ability to detect damage has to be kept or increased when the real data set is applied.
This paper is motivated by the lack of studies relating to vibration and nonlinear resonance of fluid-conveying cantilever porous GPLR pipes with fractional viscoelastic model resting on nonlinear foundations. A dynamical model of cantilever porous Graphene Platelet Reinforced (GPLR) pipes conveying fluid and resting on nonlinear foundation is proposed, and the vibration, natural frequencies and primary resonant of such system are explored. The pipe body is considered to be composed of GPLR viscoelastic polymeric pipe with porosity in which Halpin-Tsai scheme in conjunction with fractional viscoelastic model is used to govern the construction relation of the nanocomposite pipe. Three different porosity distributions through the pipe thickness are introduced. The harmonic concentrated force is also applied on pipe and excitation frequency is close to the first natural frequency. The governing equation for transverse motion of the pipe is derived by the Hamilton principle and then discretized by the Galerkin procedure. In order to obtain the frequency-response equation, the differential equation is solved with the assumption of small displacement, damping coefficient, and excitation amplitude by the multiple scale method. A parametric sensitivity analysis is carried out to reveal the influence of different parameters, such as nanocomposite pipe properties, fluid velocity and nonlinear viscoelastic foundation coefficients, on the primary resonance and linear natural frequency. Results indicate that the GPLs weight fraction porosity coefficient, fractional derivative order and the retardation time have substantial influences on the dynamic response of the system.

NPP (Nuclear power plant) structures have been constructed near to the sea shore line for cooling water and exposed to steel corrosion due to chloride attack. Regarding NPP structures built in the UAE, chloride transport may be more rapid than those in the other regions since the temperature near to the coast is high. In this study, concrete samples with 5,000psi (35MPa) design strength grade were manufactured with the materials and mix proportions, which were the same as used in the UAE NPP structures, then chloride diffusion coefficients were evaluated considering temperature and curing age. The compressive strength and the diffusion coefficient were evaluated and analyzed for the samples with 28 and 91 curing days. In addition, chloride diffusion tests for 91-day-cured condition were carried out in the range of 20℃ to 50℃. The activation energy was obtained through converting the temperature slope to a logarithmic function and it was compared with the previous studies. The proposed activation energy can be useful for a reasonable durability design by using actual temperature-dependent chloride diffusion coefficient.

The durability of marine concrete structure is severely degraded by corrosion due to penetration and diffusion of chloride. So, many researches have been performed to improve the durability in marine concrete structure. In this study, the concrete members mixed with the mineral admixtures(SF and BFS), the epoxy-coated steel, and corrosion inhibitors are prepared, and four-point bending test of specimens are performed to investigate the flexural behaviors and the applicability for marine concrete structure. From the test results, the mineral admixtures and inhibitors are useful for safety against the initial cracking and the bending resistance in specimens. When the durable material is used in specimen, the tensile stress of reinforcing rod was less variable in same bending span length, and the durable member showed a stable behavior. And it is evaluated that the crack spacing is not larger in specimen used the durable material.

In this study, a series of full-scale field tests on prebored and precast steel pipe piles and the corresponding numerical analysis have been conducted in order to study the characteristics of pile load-settlement relations and shear stress transfer at the pile-soil interface. Dynamic pile load tests (EOID and restrike) have been performed on the piles and the estimated design pile loads from EOID and restrike tests were analysed. Class-A type numerical analyses conducted prior to the pile loading tests were 56~105%, 65~121% and 38~142% respectively of those obtained from static load tests. In addition, design loads estimated from the restrike tests indicate increases of 12~60% compared to those estimated in the EOID tests. The EOID tests show large end bearing capacity while the restrike tests demonstrate increased skin friction. When impact energy is insufficient during the restrike tests, the end bearing capacity may be underestimated. It has been found that total pile capacity would be reasonably estimated if skin friction from the restrike tests and end bearing capacity from the EOID are combined. The load-settlement relation measured from the static pile load tests and estimated from the numerical modelling is in general agreement until yielding occurs, after which results from the numerical analyses substantially deviated away from those obtained from the static load tests. The measured pile behaviour from the static load tests shows somewhat similar behaviour of perfectly-elastic plastic materials after yielding with a small increase in the pile load, while the numerical analyses demonstrates a gradual increase in the pile load associated with strain hardening approaching ultimate pile load. It has been discussed that the load-settlement relation mainly depends upon the stiffness of the ground, whilst the shear transfer mechanism depends on shear strength parameters.

In a steel structure, spray-applied fire resistive materials are crucial in preventing structural strength from being weakened in the event of a fire. The quality control of such materials, however, is difficult for manual workers, who can frequently be in short supply. These skilled workers are also very likely to be exposed to environmental hazards. Problems with construction work such as this, which are specifically the difficulty of achieving quality control and the dangerous nature of the work itself, can be solved to some degree by the introduction of automated equipment. It is, however, very difficult to automate the work process, from operation to the selection of a location for the equipment, as the environment of a construction site has not yet been structured to accommodate automation. This is a fundamental study on the possibility of the automation of spray-applied fire resistive coating work. In this study, the linkability of the cutting-edge RTLS to an automation system is reviewed, and a scenario for the automation of spray-applied fire resistive coating work and system composition is presented. The system suggested in this study is still in a conceptual stage, and as such, there are many restrictions still to be resolved. Despite this fact, automation is expected to have good effectiveness in terms of preventing fire from spreading by maintaining a certain level of strength at a high temperature when a fire occurs, as it maintains the thickness of the fire-resistive coating at a specified level, and secures the integrity of the coating with the steel structure, thereby enhancing the fire-resistive performance. It also expected that if future research is conducted in this area in relation to a cutting-edge monitoring TRS, such as the ubiquitous sensor network (USN) and/or building information model (BIM), it will contribute to raising the level of construction automation in Korea, reducing costs through the systematic and efficient management of construction resources, shortening construction periods, and implementing more precise construction
