  • Owing to the decreased work term and the convenience of construction work in Korea, the steel deck plate system has been widely used in the construction field. Most of all, due to its good stiffness and economic consideration, the steel-wire-integrated deck plate system (or truss deck plate system) has become very popular in recent years. But although it has many advantages, the truss deck plate system has a critical defect: it gets rusty in the welding joints between the lattice steel wire and the deck plate, resulting in the cracking of such welding joints and water leakage. To address these problems, a new type of truss deck plate system, which need not be welded and does not rust, was proposed herein: the TOX deck plate system. In this study, tests were conducted on 15 specimens to evaluate the structural safety of the proposed deck plate system during the construction stage. The test parameters were as follows: the depth of the slab the length of the span the diameters of the top, bottom, and lattice steel wire and the material properties of the zinc-coated steel sheets. The test results show that the TOX deck plate system can guarantee structural safety owing to its deflection and strength.

  • This paper present a study on the flexural behavior of composite slabs using the flat-type profiled(ACE-DECK) steel deck plate which are developed recently. Forty eight composite slabs with different thickness, span, shear span and deck profile were tested to evaluate the flexural capacity and compared to the existing traperzodial deck profiles (KEM, ALPHA-DECK) According to the experiment results, flat-type profiled steel deck plate indicates more excellent capacity than existing traperzodial deck profiles in strength, stiffness, and ductility. The equation proposed by ASCE code for the effective moment of inertia are more acceptable than the equation proposed by ACI code. Thus, in this paper, test results are summarized by strength, stiffness, and deformation capacity for the specimens.

  • This paper provides the results of a study on the structural behavior of the composite slabs using the metal form deck plate. Cold-formed steel deck sections are used in many composite floor slab applications wherein the steel deck serves not only as the form for the concrete during construction but also as the principal tensile reinforcement for the bottom fiber of the composite slab. A total of 16 specimens are tested to clarify the composite action between the concrete and metal deck plate and to find the method to increase the composite effect, whether or not non-slip bars are used. The test results are summarized for the shear-bond capacities, deformation capacities, and failure modes for the specimens.

  • Decks, interior beams, edge beams and girders are the parts of a steel floor system. If the deck is optimized without considering beam optimization, finding best result is simple. However, a deck with higher cost may increase the composite action of the beams and decrease the beam cost reducing the total cost. Also different number of floor divisions can improve the total floor cost. Increasing beam capacity by using castellated beams is other efficient method to save the costs. In this study, floor optimization is performed and these three issues are discussed. Floor division number and deck sections are some of the variables. Also for each beam, profile section of the beam, beam cutting depth, cutting angle, spacing between holes and number of filled holes at the ends of castellated beams are other variables. Constraints include the application of stress, stability, deflection and vibration limitations according to the load and resistance factor (LRFD) design. Objective function is the total cost of the floor consisting of the steel profile cost, cutting and welding cost, concrete cost, steel deck cost, shear stud cost and construction costs. Optimization is performed by enhanced colliding body optimization (ECBO), Results show that using castellated beams, selecting a deck with higher price and considering different number of floor divisions can decrease the total cost of the floor.

  • Various fatigue damages have been reported in orthotropic steel deck structures put upon girders. These damages are caused by complex behaviors of the deck, which is directly subjected to vehicle loads. To estimate the causes of fatigue cracks at the welded connected parts of the trough rib and the flor beam, and the trough rib and the deck plate, in orthotropic steel deck structures, FE analyses were first, performed in this study. Parameter studies were carried out to suggest effective structural details that consider fatigue, in which the main parameters are the thickness of the deck plate, the shape of the connection of the trough rib and the flor beam such as the slit form, and the welding length. This study suggests that the effective structural details improved the fatigue strength and discusses.

  • The long span PSC deck of composite girder bridge should be needed in order to improve the endurance and to simplify the structure of the steel bridge. However, there have been few domestic research activities about long-span PSC decks for the steel bridges with a small number of girders. In this study, a literature survey is performed to develop a new deck system for the steel bridge with a small number of girders. By considering the characteristics of a small number of girders bridge system, a cast-in-place long span PSC deck is proposed for a small number of girders bridges. To examine structural behavior and safety of the proposed PSC deck, the real scale partial models of the deck(12m$\times$3.2m) are tested under the static loading. In the test, the failure mode and behavior of each specimen, and ultimate load carrying capacity of the proposed PSC deck are identified.

  • Eco deck plate system is a construction method that deconstruction of galvanized steel sheets is possible by integrating steel-wire-integrated girders and the galvanized steel sheets with bolts. Therefore, compared with previous steel-wire-integrated deck plates which were joined by welding, the system is acknowledged as the construction method possible management and repair. This study conducted an experimental research by manufacturing total 24 full size specimens in a same condition for 12-shape specimens by two parts to evaluate structural behaviors of the eco deck plates. In the results after the test, permissible deflection for the construction load action was shown to be values under design values and satisfactory. The processing of lattice steel wires was presented to be structurally advantageous in being manufactured by cutting downward. Also, in case of a specimen that D13 as a steel wire was used, destruction occurred at the welding part of the bottom steel wire and the lattice steel wire, so improvement measures for the welding in factory manufacture are necessary.

  • The open deck steel bridge is the most common type in railway bridges. Steel I-shaped girders are connected with sleepers directly without ballast and moving train loads are transmitted directly to the girder, so this bridge has weak characteristics on impact. Therefore, considerable accelerations can cause unsatisfactory dynamic behavior of the open deck steel bridge. Especially, Impact created at rail joints can increase the dynamic response of the bridge and this phenomenon would be injurious to passenger comfort. In the present study, dynamic behavior of the open deck steel bridge which has a rail joint is estimated through experimental studies and bridge-train interaction analysis considering surface irregularities by rail joints.

  • The paper concerns analysis of effects of shrinkage of slab concrete in a steel-concrete composite deck of a through truss bridge span. Attention is paid to the shrinkage alongside the span, i.e., transverse to steel-concrete composite cross-beams. So far this aspect has not been given much attention in spite of the fact that it affects not only steel-concrete decks of bridges but also steel-concrete floors of steel frame building structures. For the problem analysis a two-dimensional model is created. An analytical method is presented in detail. A set of linear equations is built to compute axial forces in members of truss girder flange and transverse shear forces in steel-concrete composite beams. Finally a case study is shown: test loading of twin railway truss bridge spans is described, verified FEM model of the spans is presented and computational results of FEM and the analytical method are compared. Conclusions concerning applicability of the presented analytical method to practical design are drawn. The presented analytical method provides satisfactory accuracy of results in comparison with the verified FEM model.

  • Longitudinal shear failure is the most common failure-type in composite slabs. In this paper, the shear-connection behavior of composite slabs with a particular profiled steel sheeting, so called ACE-DECK, having a depth of 60mm is studied experimentaly. Twenty two pull-out test specimens of different shapes, concrete topping thickness, and different steel sheeting thickness are carried out. It is founded that the shear connection behavior of composite slabs are not affected significantly in the steel sheeting thickness and concrete topping thickness. A new type of profiled steel sheeting is more effective in shear-bond strength that of existing flat-type deck plate, which can offer longitudinal shear strength in composite slope up to $3.6kgf/cm^2$
