In this paper, 3-dimensional electromagnetic numerical analysis is performed about the eddy current(EC) array probe characteristic which is the next generation probe for accurate diagnosis of steam generator(SG) in nuclear power plants(NPPs). ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Standard and X-probe combo calibration standard tube are selected for acquisition of eddy current testing(ECT) signals and this result of compared with the real test signals for reasonability of result. Based on the analysis result of calibration standard tube, ECT signals that are about the defects of pitting, stress corrosion cracking(SCC), multiple SCC and wear is obtained. Material of specimen was Inconel 600 which is usually used for SG tubes in NPPs. The operation frequency of 300 kHz were used. The signal characteristics could be observed according to the various defects. The results in this paper can be helpful when the ECT signals from EC array probe are evaluated and analyzed.

Several chemicals were studied to suppress the damage due to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of steam generator (SG) tubes in nuclear power plants. The effects on the SCC of the compounds, $TiO_2$, TyzorLA and $CeB_6$, were tested for several types of SG tubing materials. The test with the addition of $TiO_2$ and $CeB_6$ showed an effect in decreasing the SCC for the SG tubing material. However, $CeB_6$ caused some more SCC for Alloy 800. The penetration property into a crevice of the inhibitors was investigated by using Alloy 600 specimens with different gap.

For defect characterization in steam generator tubes in nuclear power plant, artificial neural network has been extensively used to classify defect types. In this paper, we study the effectiveness of Bagging for improving the performance of neural network for the classification of tube defects. Bagging is a method that combines outputs of many neural networks that were trained separately with different training data set. By varying the number of neurons in the hidden layer, we carry out computer simulations in order to compare the classification performance of bagging neural network and single neural network. From the experiments, we found that the performance of bagging neural network is superior to the average performance of single neural network in most cases.

The robust controller synthesis and analysis of the water level process in the U-tube system generator (UTSG) is addressed in this paper. The parameter uncertainties of the steam generator (SG) are modeled as multiplicative perturbations which are normalized by designing suitable weighting functions. The relative errors of the nominal SG model with respect to the other operating power level models are employed to specify the weighting functions for normalizing the plant uncertainties. Then, a robust controller is designed based on ${\mu}$-synthesis and D-K iteration, and its stability robustness is verified over the whole range of power operations. A gain-scheduled controller with $H_{\infty}$-synthesis is also designed to compare its robustness with the proposed controller. The stability analysis is accomplished and compared with the previous QFT design. The ${\mu}$-analysis of the system shows that the proposed controller has a favorable stability robustness for the whole range of operating power conditions. The proposed controller response is simulated against the power level deviation in start-up and shutdown stages and compared with the other concerning controllers.
Propagation of the guided waves in a steam generator (SG) tube was investigated. Dispersion curves and the incident angles corresponding to the specific modes were calculated for the SG tube. The modes of guided wave were identified by time-frequency diagrams obtained by short time Fourier transform. Group velocities were also determined from the time-frequency diagrams obtained at the different separations of transducers. In experiment. distinct mode conversion was not observed when the guided ultrasound passed curved region of the S/G tube. The optimum mode of guided wave for the inspection of SG tube was suggested and verified by experiments.
This paper presents details on a tube inspection robotic system and a positioning method of the robot for a steam generator (SG) in nuclear power plants (NPPs). The robotic system is separated into three parts for easy handling, which reduces the radiation exposure during installation. The system has a supporting leg to increase the rigidity of the robot base. Since there are several thousands of tubes to be inspected inside a SG, it is very important to position the tool of the robot at the right tubes even if the robot base is positioned inaccurately during the installation. In order to obtain absolute accuracy of a position, the robot kinematics was mathematically modeled with the modified DH(Denavit-Hartenberg) model and calibrated on site using tube holes as calibration points. To tune the PID gains of a commercial motor driver systematically, the time delay control (TDC) based gain tuning method was adopted. To verify the performance of the robotic system, experiments on a Framatomes 51B Model type SG mockup were undertaken.

In recent years, attention has been paid to the integrity of steam generator (SG) tubes due to severe accident and beyond design basis accident conditions. In these transient conditions, steam generator tubes may be damaged by high temperature and pressure, which might result in a risk of fission products being released to the environment due to the failure. Alloy 690 which has increased the Cr content has been replaced for the SG tube due to its high corrosion resistance against stress corrosion cracking (SCC). However, there is lack of research on the high temperature creep rupture and life prediction model of Alloy 690. In this study, creep test was performed to estimate the high temperature creep rupture life of Alloy 690 using tube specimens. Based on manufacturer's creep data and creep test results performed in this study, creep life prediction was carried out using the Larson-Miller (LM) Parameter, Orr-Sherby-Dorn (OSD) parameter, Manson-Haford (MH) parameter, and Wilshire's approach. And a hyperbolic sine (sinh) function to determine master curves in LM, OSD and MH parameter methods was used for improving the creep life estimation of Alloy 690 material.
A correct understanding of vibration-based degradation is crucial from the standpoint of maintenance for Steam Generators (SG) as crucial mechanical equipment in nuclear power plants. This study has established a novel approach to developing a model for investigating tube bundle degradation according to crack growth caused by two-phase Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV). An important step in the approach is to calculate the two-phase flow field parameters between the SG tube bundles in various zones using the porous media model to determine the velocity and vapor volume fraction. Afterward, to determine the vibration properties of the tube bundles, the Fluid-Solid Interaction (FSI) analysis is performed in eighteen thermal-hydraulic zones. Tube bundle degradation based on crack growth using the sixteen most probable initial cracks and within each SG thermal-hydraulic zone is performed to calculate useful lifetime. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model, Paris law, and Wiener process model are considered to model the turbulent crossflow around the tube bundles, simulation of elliptical crack growth due to the vibration characteristics, and estimation of SG tube bundles degradation, respectively. The analysis shows that the tube deforms most noticeably in the zone with the highest velocity. As a result, cracks propagate more quickly in the tube with a higher height. In all simulations based on different initial crack sizes, it was observed that zone 16 experiences the greatest deformation and, subsequently, the fastest degradation, with a velocity and vapor volume fraction of 0.5 m/s and 0.4, respectively.

The function of Feed Water Ring is to provide the flow path from Feedwater Nozzle to inside of SG(steam generator). Significant amounts of general FAC on the outside of the Feed Water Ring are not likely due to the low flow velocities in this area. However, on the interior of the Feed Water Ring, there may be areas of local higher flow velocity which could lead to higher FAC rates. These may include the inlet tee from the Feedwater Nozzle into the Feed Water Ring, the areas where the Feed Water Ring changes diameter, and especially the entrance area to the J-Nozzles. In this paper, the results of root cause analysis of through-wall hole observed at domestic WH 51F SG Feed Water Ring and its effect on the integrity and performance of SG are described. And, the maintenance strategy for WH 51F SG Feed Water Ring and the monitoring strategy for Downcomer Feed Water Ring of CE System 80 SG are presented.

The Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) Steam Generator (SG) uses alloy 690 as a tube material and SA-508 Grade 3 Class 1 as a tubesheet material to form tube-to-tubesheet joint through hydraulic expansion process. In this paper, the residual stresses in the SG tube-to-tubesheet contact area was investigated by applying Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodology and the V-model. The use of MBSE transform system description into diagrams which clearly describe the logical interaction between functions hence minimizes the risk of ambiguity. A theoretical and Finite Element Methodology (FEM) was used to assess and compare the residual stresses in the tube-to-tubesheet contact area. Additionally, the axial strength of the tube to tubesheet joint based on the pull-out force against the contact joint force was evaluated and recommended optimum autofrettage pressure to minimize residual stresses in the transition zone given. A single U-tube hole and tubesheet with ligament thickness was taken as a single cylinder and plane strain condition was assumed. An iterative method was used in FEM simulation to find the limit autofrettage pressure at which pull-out force and contact force are of the same magnitude. The joint contact force was estimated to be 20 times more than the pull-out force and the limit autofrettage pressure was estimated to be 141.85MPa.
