  • This paper deals with a position control problem of a hydraulic proportional position control system using a nonlinear friction compensation control. As nonlinear friction, stiction and coulomb friction forces are considered and modeled as deadzone and external disturbance respectively. In order to compensate this nonlinearities, we designed the controller which is the adaptive friction compensator using discrete time Model Reference Adaptive Control method in this paper. Digital Signal Processing board is employed for data acquisition and manipulation. The experimental results show that response is slow and steady-state error cannot be compensated properly without friction compensation but this compensator is effective to obtain fast response and good steady-state response.

  • This paper deals with a position control problem of a hydraulic proportional position control system using a friction compensation control. There are many nonlinearities in hydraulic systems. With only proportional controller, response is slow and steady-state error cannot be compensated properly. Controller designed in this paper achieves fast transient response through the velocity and acceleration feedback and good steady-state response through the friction compensator. A/D and D/A board is employed for data acquisition and manipulation. The experimental results are compared with computer simulation results using Matlab.

  • In this paper, an effective control scheme of a single phase UPS inverter is proposed to have no steady state error of the output voltage and the fast response for the load request. The cosine wave tranfer function is proposed to control the output voltage. This controller clearly removes errors of magnitude and phase both in the steady state. On the other hand, a current controller is proposed to reduce the transient time of the voltage control and to improve the bad distorted factor of the output voltage waveform by the load fluctuation and the presences of nonlinear parameters in the plant. The current controller is designed parallel to the voltage controller and performs separately from it.

  • A nonlinear spectral-line method utilizing the fourth absolute moment of the receiver discrete Fourier transform output is proposed as a non-data-aided fine carrier frequency synchronization algorithm for OFDM receivers. A simple modification of the algorithm resulting in low implementation complexity is also developed. Analytic expressions are derived for the steady-state frequency error variances of the algorithms and verified to be very accurate via computer simulations over AWGN and frequency selective multipath channels. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms provide reliable and excellent steady-state performance, especially with PSK modulation. Also, the proposed algorithms are insensitive to symbol timing offsets, only requiring a coarse symbol timing recovery.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive algorithm based on a method of dynamic error signal generation suitable for signal state by examining the equalizer output signal in blind equalization. In the proposed method, it estimates the error signals using single modulus and multiple modulus each effective to the early stage of equalization or steady-state, and it generates a new error signal from the two error estimates. Two equalizer structures are implemented and their performances are compared: 1-equalizer structure that generates a new error signal by combining the two error estimates weightedly and updates the equalizer using this, and 2-equalizer structure that updates two equalizers respectively depending on the weights of the two error signals. In the proposed method, as the error signals were generated optimally before and after the initial convergence respectively, it was confirmed by computer simulations that the equalizer was updated effectively.

  • This paper investigates a mathematical model of a system composed of two non-identical unit parallel system with common-cause failure, critical human error, non-critical human error, preventive maintenance and two type of repair, i.e. cheaper and costlier. This system goes for preventive maintenance at random epochs. We assume that the failure, repair and maintenance times are independent random variables. The failure rates, repair rates and preventive maintenance rate are constant for each unit. The system is analyzed by using the graphical evaluation and review technique (GERT) to obtain various related measures and we study the effect of the preventive maintenance preventive maintenance on the system performance. Certain important results have been derived as special cases. The plots for the mean time to system failure and the steady-state availability A(${\infty}$) of the system are drawn for different parametric values.

  • This paper is concerned with the performance analysis of a modified stop-and-go generalized multi-modulus algorithm (MSAG-GMMA) adaptive blind equalization algorithm with variable step size. The proposed algorithm multiplies the fixed step size by the error signal of the decision-oriented algorithm in the equalization coefficient update equation, and changes the step size according to the error size. Also, the MSAG-GMMA having a fixed step size is operated so as to maintain a fast convergence speed from a certain threshold to a steady state by determining the error signal size of the decision-directed algorithm, and when the MSAG-GMMA to work To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we use the ensemble ISI, ensemble-averaged MSE, and equalized constellation obtained from the output of the equalizer as the performance index. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has faster convergence speeds than MMA, GMMA, and MSAG-GMMA and has a small residual error in steady state.

  • A new type of digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) called the modified digital Costas loop is proposed and analyzed. The main feature of the proposed loop is that the phase error detector of the loop has linear characteristic. This results from the use of the tan-1 (.) function in the loop. Accordingly, the DPLL can be characterized by a modulo-2$\pi$ linear difference equation. This paper is diveide into two parts. In Part I we describe the proposed system, and analyze the performance of the first-and second-order loops in the absence of noise by the Phase Plane technique. The locking ranges for the DPLL's to achieve exact locking independently of initial conditions have been obtained in closed forms. Also, the false lock and oscillation phenomena occurring under some initial conditions have been considered. These results have been verified by computer simulation. In Part ll we analyze the proposed system in the presence of noise. The steady state probability density function, mean and variance of the phase error have been obtained by solving the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation. These results will be presented in Part ll.

  • This paper evaluates the QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm by the number of quantizer in order to compensates the intersymbol interference due to channel in the transmission of high spectral efficient nonconstant modulus signal. In the adaptive equalizer, the error signal is needed for the updating the tap coefficient, the QE-MMA uses the polarity of error signal and correlation multiplier that condered nonlinear finite bit power-of-two quantizing component in order to convinience of H/W implementation. The different adaptive equalization performance were obtained by the number of quantizer, these performance were evaluated by the computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE, SER were applied as a performance index. As a result of computer simulation, it improved equalization performance and reduced equalization noise were obtained in the steady state by using large quantizer bit numbers, but gives slow in convergence speed for reaching steady state.

  • This paper relates with the performance evaluation of QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm based on the stepsize and quantizer bit number in order to reduce the intersymbol interference due to nonlinear distortion occurred in the time dispersive channel. The QE-MMA was proposed using the power-of-two arithmetic for the H/W implementation easiness substitutes the multiplication and addition into the shift and addition in the tap coefficient updates process that modifies the SE-MMA which use the high-order statistics of transmitted signal and sign of error signal. But it has different adaptive equalization performance by the step size and quantizer bit number for obtain the sign of error in the generation of error signal in QE-MMA, and it was confirmed by computer simulation. As a simulation, it was confirmed that the convergence speed for reaching steady state depend on stepsize and the residual quantities after steady state depend on the quantizer bit number in the QE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm performance.
