  • The flow characteristics in the thruster should be analyzed considering its geometry and the pressure ratio to estimate its performance and etc. This paper suggests the computational result of an axisymmetric real nozzle for the altitude control of a satellite to find out the application limit that the assumption of continuum mechanics holds. The steady non-reacted compressible flow field in the unstructured grid system is computed and analyzed with varying the environmental pressure (or the degree of vacuum) under the fixed pressure ratio in a real thruster of which the area ratio of exit to throat is 56. The assumption of the continuum mechanics is not approved when the environmental pressure is reduced less than $10^{-3}$ atm.

  • This paper deals with the flow caused by a two-dimensional pulsating source, which moves with a constant horizontal speed beneath the free surface. The analysis is based on lincar potential theory including surface tension effects. In the case of subcritical reduced frequencies $\tau<1/4(\tau=U_{\omega}/g$, U=constant speed, $\omega$=circular frequency, g=gravitational acceleration), six wave components arc found. Two of them are largely affected by surface tension, which propagate ahead of the source in the direction of and opposite to the steady translation, respectively. The rest are almost identical with those found by Haskind(1954), i.e. for which the surface tension effect is negligible. For low oscillation frequencies, the resonant frequency still exists at $\tau$ only slightly greater than 1/4. For oscillation frequencies greater than $\nu(={\omega}^2/g)>20$, the surface tension effect is so significant that it disperses generated waves and consequently the singular phenomenon is removed. However, in addition to the gravity breaking, capillary breakings occur when the translation speed coincides with the minimum capillary celerity.

  • This note describes an application of Hamiton's principle to nonlinear free-surface flow problems. Two functionals are constructed based on classical Hamilton's principle with a modification due to the presence of a free surface. As an effort towards the development of an efficient numerical scheme for our problem, we present the following three test results: i) The bounding principles of the eigenvalues for the linear dispersion relation. ii) By assuming steady solitary waves, an approximate relation between the amplitudes and the speeds of solitary waves are derived from the two functionals constructed. Their numerical results are compared with those of Longuet-Higgins & Fenton(1974). iii) The shapes and charicteristics of solitary waves are computed from two sets of functionals by varying the number of total finite elements in the fluid domain.

  • According to the statistics of the Ministry of Land Transport and Transportation in 2018, the average annual average number of air traffic users for has increased by 5.07% for domestic flights and 8.84% for international flights. Korea is facing a steady rise in demand from foreign tourists due to the Korean Wave. At the same time, a new lifestyle that values the quality of life of individuals is taking root, along with the emergence of LCC, and Korean tourists' overseas tours are also increasing, so improvement and expansion of domestic airport passenger terminals is urgently needed. it is important to develop a structured airport infrastructure by making efficient and accurate forecasts of aviation demand. in this study, based on the Big Data, long-term domestic and international demand forecasts for urban airports were conducted.. Domestic flights will see a decrease in the number of airport passengers after 2028, and international flights will continue to increase. It is imperative to improve and expand passenger terminals at domestic airports.

  • Reliable prediction of the motion of FOWT (floating offshore wind turbine) and associated mooring line tension is important in both design and operation/monitoring processes. In the present study, a 5MW OC4 semisubmersible wind turbine is numerically modeled, simulated, and analyzed by the open-source numerical tool, OpenFAST and in-house numerical tool, Charm3D-FAST. Another commercial-level program FASTv8-OrcaFlex is also introduced for comparison for selected cases. The three simulation programs solve the same turbine-floater-mooring coupled dynamics in time domain while there exist minor differences in the details of the program. Both the motions and mooring-line tensions are calculated and compared with the DeepCWind 1/50 scale model-testing results. The system identification between the numerical and physical models is checked through the static-offset test and free-decay test. Then the system motions and mooring tensions are systematically compared among the simulated results and measured values. Reasonably good agreements between the simulation and measurement are demonstrated for (i) white-noise random waves, (ii) typical random waves, and (iii) typical random waves with steady wind. Based on the comparison between numerical results and experimental data, the relative importance and role of the differences in the numerical methodologies of those three programs can be observed and interpreted. These comparative-study results may provide a certain confidence level and some insight of potential variability in motion and tension predictions for future FOWT designs and applications.

  • This study focused on digital music, which is the most valuable cultural asset in the modern society and occupies a particularly important position in the flow of the Korean Wave. Digital music was collected based on the "Gaon Chart," a well-established music chart in Korea. Through this, the changes in the ranking of the music that entered the chart for 73 weeks were collected. Afterwards, patterns with similar characteristics were derived through time series cluster analysis. Then, a descriptive analysis was performed on the notable features of each pattern. The research process suggested by this study is as follows. First, in the data collection process, time series data was collected to check the ranking change of digital music. Subsequently, in the data processing stage, the collected data was matched with the rankings over time, and the music title and artist name were processed. Each analysis is then sequentially performed in two stages consisting of exploratory analysis and explanatory analysis. First, the data collection period was limited to the period before 'the music bulk buying phenomenon', a reliability issue related to music ranking in Korea. Specifically, it is 73 weeks starting from December 31, 2017 to January 06, 2018 as the first week, and from May 19, 2019 to May 25, 2019. And the analysis targets were limited to digital music released in Korea. In particular, digital music was collected based on the "Gaon Chart", a well-known music chart in Korea. Unlike private music charts that are being serviced in Korea, Gaon Charts are charts approved by government agencies and have basic reliability. Therefore, it can be considered that it has more public confidence than the ranking information provided by other services. The contents of the collected data are as follows. Data on the period and ranking, the name of the music, the name of the artist, the name of the album, the Gaon index, the production company, and the distribution company were collected for the music that entered the top 100 on the music chart within the collection period. Through data collection, 7,300 music, which were included in the top 100 on the music chart, were identified for a total of 73 weeks. On the other hand, in the case of digital music, since the cases included in the music chart for more than two weeks are frequent, the duplication of music is removed through the pre-processing process. For duplicate music, the number and location of the duplicated music were checked through the duplicate check function, and then deleted to form data for analysis. Through this, a list of 742 unique music for analysis among the 7,300-music data in advance was secured. A total of 742 songs were secured through previous data collection and pre-processing. In addition, a total of 16 patterns were derived through time series cluster analysis on the ranking change. Based on the patterns derived after that, two representative patterns were identified: 'Steady Seller' and 'One-Hit Wonder'. Furthermore, the two patterns were subdivided into five patterns in consideration of the survival period of the music and the music ranking. The important characteristics of each pattern are as follows. First, the artist's superstar effect and bandwagon effect were strong in the one-hit wonder-type pattern. Therefore, when consumers choose a digital music, they are strongly influenced by the superstar effect and the bandwagon effect. Second, through the Steady Seller pattern, we confirmed the music that have been chosen by consumers for a very long time. In addition, we checked the patterns of the most selected music through consumer needs. Contrary to popular belief, the steady seller: mid-term pattern, not the one-hit wonder pattern, received the most choices from consumers. Particularly noteworthy is that the 'Climbing the Chart' phenomenon, which is contrary to the existing pattern, was confirmed through the steady-seller pattern. This study focuses on the change in the ranking of music over time, a field that has been relatively alienated centering on digital music. In addition, a new approach to music research was attempted by subdividing the pattern of ranking change rather than predicting the success and ranking of music.

  • The objective of this study is to develop the accurate, robust and high resolution two-dimensional numerical model that solves the computationally difficult hydraulic problems, including the wave front propagation over dry bed and abrupt change in bathymetry. The developed model in this study solves the conservative form of the two-dimensional shallow water equations using an unsplit finite volume scheme and HLLC approximate Riemann solvers to compute the interface fluxes. Bed-slope term is discretized by the divergence theorem in the framework of FVM for application of unsplit scheme. Accurate and stable SGM, in conjunction with the MUSCL which is second-order-accurate both in space and time, is adopted to balance with fluxes and source terms. The exact C-property is shown to be satisfied for balancing the fluxes and the source terms. Since the spurious oscillations in second-order schemes are inherent, an efficient slope limiting technique is used to supply TVD property. The accuracy, conservation property and application of developed model are verified by comparing numerical solution with analytical solution and experimental data through the simulations of one-dimensional dam break flow without bed slope, steady transcritical flow over a hump and two-dimensional dam break flow with a constriction.

  • The iterative boundary element method (IBEM) developed originally before for cavitating two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) hydrofoils moving under free surface is modified and applied to the case of 2-D (two-dimensional) airfoils and 3-D (three-dimensional) wings over water. The calculation of the steady-state flow characteristics of an inviscid, incompressible fluid past 2-D airfoils and 3-D wings above free water surface is of practical importance for air-assisted marine vehicles such as some racing boats including catamarans with hydrofoils and WIG (Wing-In-Ground) effect crafts. In the present paper, the effects of free surface both on 2-D airfoils and 3-D wings moving steadily over free water surface are investigated in detail. The iterative numerical method (IBEM) based on the Green's theorem allows separating the airfoil or wing problems and the free surface problem. Both the 2-D airfoil surface (or 3-D wing surface) and the free surface are modeled with constant strength dipole and constant strength source panels. While the kinematic boundary condition is applied on the airfoil surface or on the wing surface, the linearized kinematic-dynamic combined condition is applied on the free surface. The source strengths on the free surface are expressed in terms of perturbation potential by applying the linearized free surface conditions. No radiation condition is enforced for downstream boundary in 2-D airfoil and 3-D wing cases and transverse boundaries in only 3-D wing case. The method is first applied to 2-D NACA0004 airfoil with angle of attack of four degrees to validate the method. The effects of height of 2-D airfoil from free surface and Froude number on lift and drag coefficients are investigated. The method is also applied to NACA0015 airfoil for another validation with experiments in case of ground effect. The lift coefficient with different clearance values are compared with those of experiments. The numerical method is then applied to NACA0012 airfoil with the angle of attack of five degrees and the effects of Froude number and clearance on the lift and drag coefficients are discussed. The method is lastly applied to a rectangular 3-D wing and the effects of Froude number on wing performance have been investigated. The numerical results for wing moving under free surface have also been compared with those of the same wing moving above free surface. It has been found that the free surface can affect the wing performance significantly.

  • The study is examined to illustrate Korea's status in service trade, including travel deficit, outbound travel market, and inbound travel market. This research will also illustrate what factors generate the growth of travel deficit and suggest some alternatives to solve it even if government notes a steady increase in exports of cultural products and programs and entertainment services, driven by the Korean Wave sweeping across Asia. The study suggested some possible alternatives such as growth of travel balance, improvement of low image on Korean tourism, aggressive participation of government, strengthened role of Korean Tourism Organization(KTO), and appropriate control on overseas studies to lessen an increase of travel deficit. In addition, the study concluded, even if a tourism industry includes a higher multiplier effect, the spontaneous participation intention by Koreans themselves and the strong supports from local governments should be another major successful factors to settle down the travel deficit.
