This study is to produce baseline data, in its purpose of improving the quality of life of industrial workers as well as the business competitiveness, though improvements in reading culture. The data produced in this study will be based on questionnaire, regarding sub-topics of the reading environment, the status of reading culture, and remaining demands. The results argue that the responding workers in Siheung Smart Hub Complex had inadequate environment of reading, while had weak status of reading culture. We propose the ways of improvements in the reading culture of the worker in Siheung Smart Hub Complex, as well as their reading infrastructure.

This study attempted to establish the role of university libraries for leisure reading by identifying the current status of university libraries about leisure reading, which is a part of the reading support service and by investigating and analyzing the university library librarian's percep tion of the necessity of leisure reading. To this end, a survey was conducte d on university libraries. As a result of the survey, 78% of university libraries were conducting leisure reading, and 72% of them provided separate space. Separate manpower was provided only in 30% of libraries, and book lists were provided mainly by best sellers. Regarding the need for leisure reading (4.28) and the role of university libraries (4.32), librarians responded that it was a necessary service for university libraries, and university library librarians that currently provide spaces and program s were more aware of the need.

The purpose of this study is to present an activation model of the culture program and reading activity at public libraries in Seoul City. For this purpose it is to review theoretical basis on public library culture program and reading activity, and to analyze the present status of them and then to introduce the case of Nowon Children's Library Culture Program and Reading Activity as a form of the characteristic program of public library supporting the culture and reading activities in Seoul City.

The purpose of this study was to explore tasks for improving performance skills by comparing and analyzing the current status of reading marathon competitions operated in public libraries, and to provide guidelines for institutions to operating of this competition in the future. In order to achieve the research purpose, the competition status information collected in 2021 for five public libraries operating reading marathon competitions from before the COVID-19 pandemic were collected and the contents were compared and analyzed. As a result, the average period for five public libraries running a reading marathon was 10 years, and the average period for each year was 5.87 months. In addition, children had the highest rate of completion, and as compensation for completion, certificates were issued and the number of loans increased the most. However, the competition managers complained of difficulties in securing and increasing applicants and calculating the distance reached, so based on the analysis, they developed tasks to improve the performance of the reading marathon from several different solution suggestions.

With social support for reading clubs expanding, the purpose of this study is to examine the operational status of reading clubs, to investigate how useful policy support is, and to discuss the challenges to be solved in order to vitalize the reading clubs in the future. To the end, this study intends (1) to investigate the composition of the reading club and the status of participation in the reading clubs, (2) to analyze the satisfaction of club activities from the perspective of club members, and identify the results and the meaning of support activities so far, and (3) to discuss strategies to vitalize reading clubs. The data for discussion were collected through a survey of reading club members supported by a local government, and the collected data was analyzed using frequency analysis.

In this study it is to suggest a support plan between public libraries and school libraries for elementary school reading paradigm shift Reviewing existing study contents, this is to examine elementary school reading education theoretically, and to present paradigm shift through analysis on elementary school children's reading status. This paper examines the role of extensive reading in foreign language learning classrooms. The effects of extensive reading are shown both positive and negative as in Krashen (1999) and Spada (1997), particularly researches done in classroom setting. Extensive reading is hard to implement in foreign language classrooms due to the stringent school curricula despite its benefits in cognitive and affective domain of learners. This study searched 21 papers from research database on extensive reading researches in a classroom setting and synthesized 55 cognitive effects and 11 affective effects from these papers under investigation in a manner of quantifying their means and standard deviations to derive generalizations. Research synthesis in this manner has secured its own status of scientific investigation by providing secondary researchers with replicable methods that produce verifiable findings. The syntheses of researches show that extensive reading is effective in both literacy skills and other language skills such as listening and writing. It also shows positive effects across different age groups, but the effect sizes are different in that elementary and adults gained more positive effects than middle and high school students.

This study analyzes the current status of reading programs in public libraries based on literature research and data from the National Library Statistics System to derive implications and, based on this, to determine policy directions necessary to revitalize reading programs in public libraries in the future. First, based on the implications derived from the analysis, a plan for securing and sharing data on reading activities in public libraries. Second, the results of a correlation analysis of factors related to the planning and operation of reading programs present to suggest ways to revitalize sustainable reading programs. Third, the improvement of reading program evaluation indicators and expanding qualitative evaluation and creating an official mechanism to collect opinions from public libraries on a regular basis by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Library Association. Fourth, a cooperative network between public libraries that held reading competitions was proposed.

The study tries to clarify middle and high school students' reading interests in recreational, informative, inspirational, and aesthetic reading areas 1,260 students' reading cards from 7 schools are divided into economically high, middle, and low groups, each of which is subdivided into reading objectives. The writer finds no close relationship between the students' economic status and their reading preferences. However, the study indicates that recreational books are read in the order of higher, middle, and lower economic groups and informative and inspirational books in the reversed order. The writer also finds different preferences between individuals more evident than those between groups, and recommends individualized reading guidance for students.

The purpose of this study was to identify ways in which to improve assistance of reading culture promotion for reading disables in Busan Metropolitan City. The research conducted a survey on reading culture promotion works which were conducted through related public institutions, private organizations and facilities for disadvantaged class, including public libraries. This study analyzed the situations in Busan. The Results indicated promotional strategies are needed in reading culture for the handicapped. This study suggest ways in which to improve assistance through analytical research which are models of mutual cooperation for reading culture promotion in Busan.
