  • This study compares two teaching methods in an introductory statistics course at a large state university. The first method is the traditional lecture-based approach. The second method implements a flipped classroom that incorporates the recommendations of the American Statistical Association's Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report. We compare these two methods, based on student performance, illustrate the procedures of the flipped pedagogy, and discuss the impact of aligning our course to current guidelines for teaching statistics at the college level. Results show that students in the flipped class performed better than students in traditional delivery. Student questionnaire responses also indicate that students in flipped delivery aligned with the GAISE recommendations have built a productive mindset in statistics.

  • Theoretical statistics is a calculus based course. However, there are limitations to learn theoretical statistics when students do not know enough calculus techniques. Mathematical softwares (computer algebra systems) that enable calculus manipulations help students understand statistical concepts, by avoiding the difficulties of calculus. In this paper, we introduce mathematical software such as Maxima and Wolfram Alpha. To foster statistical concepts in theoretical statistics education, we present three examples that consist of mathematical derivations using wxMaxima and statistical simulations using R.

  • The Ministry of Education Science, and Technology proclamated the school curriculum of the republic of Korea at 9 August 2011. The characteristics of this curriculum are as follows; effective learning of student-centered, group of grade, group of category, concentration study, reduction of study subjects, extension of school autonomy, elective curriculum in high school. We investigate the modification of probability and statistics curriculum. And we discuss statistics education in university.

  • Along with the industry growth, engineering colleges in Korea has have a quantitative growth. Many of the policy promotions and budgets for engineering colleges from the government are supported. And the various monitoring methods to verify their achievement have demanded. This paper deals with the construction of engineering educational statistics system in Korea. It named Korea Engineering Data Management System(K-EDMS). This system is based on the data mining tool and supports data-based decision making for an advanced engineering education service. This paper presents related researches of case studies. Then, we have designed K-EDMS, and constructed 157 cases for engineering colleges of the year 2014.

  • Modern statistics is used in many fields; however many users face difficulties in understanding statistical concepts. On the other hand, elementary school curriculum covers stem and leaf plot, pie chart, charts for proportional data as well as descriptive statistics including the mean. We find that an "intuitive" statistical package focused on 5-8 graders for statistical education will help future statistics users understand statistical concepts at earlier stages of their lives.

  • In this paper, the probability and statistics education of the 7th high school curriculum is studied. We analyze each unit of probability and statistics in high school textbooks $\ulcorner$Mathematics 10-GA$\lrcorner$, $\ulcorner$Mathematics I$\lrcorner$, and $\ulcorner$Practical Mathematics$\lrcorner$, and then research the percentage for the unit of probability and statistics for all textbooks. We also investigate the proportion for the number of students who select each subject of mathematics of the national academic aptitude tests for university admission in 2005 and 2006.

  • Accompanied with ongoing calls for reform in statistics curriculum, mathematics and statistics teachers purposefully have been reconsidering the curriculum and the content taught in statistics classes. Changes made are centered around statistical inference since teachers recognize that students struggle with understanding the ideas and concepts used in statistical reasoning. Despite the efforts to change the curriculum, studies are sparse on the topic of characterizing student learning and understanding of statistical inference. Moreover, there are no tools to evaluate students' statistical reasoning in a coherent way. In response to the need for a research instrument, in a series of research study, the researcher developed a reliable and valid measure to assess students' inferential reasoning in statistics (IRS). This paper describes processes of test blueprint development that has been conducted from review of the literature and expert reviews.

  • Statistics education research is an important basis for improving the practice of statistical education by describing, predicting, and explaining the phenomena of statistical education. In this study, the research trends in Korea were analyzed through the statistical education research papers published in major Korean mathematics education journals on the 21st century. 99 papers published in these journals from 2000 to 2016 were categorized by journals, research subjects, research methods, and, topics. As a result, it was shown that there are not many statistics education researchers, so domestic researches are dependent on some researchers. In addition, the numbers of studies of human subjects and human non-subject researches were similar. There were few studies of university students, and the studies of teachers' subjects was gradually increasing since 2010. In the case of research methods, the numbers of experimental and non-experimental studies seem to be similar, but this is a result of the increase in qualitative research and mixed research since 2010. Last, many studies about domestic statistics education are on teaching and learning, and the studies on reasoning and understanding have been increasing. In this study, we see the research trends of domestic statistics education and provide implications for the future researches and development directions of statistical education research.
