  • Our research consisted of a qualitative study investigating the quality attributes of university foodservices through focus group interviews and a quantitative study evaluating service quality of university foodservices through a survey. Sixteen quality attributes were derived and customer satisfaction questionnaires included these 16 quality attributes with a five-point Likert scale. An Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) model was applied in order to identify operational strategies necessary to improve service quality. The survey questionnaires were distributed to 600 university students enrolled in a university located in Kwangju and statistical analysis was performed on 555 surveys using an SPSS package. Overall customer satisfaction with the quality of university foodservices was relatively low (under 3.0) while the expectation was inclined to be high (over 4.0). The main reasons for using the university foodservice were given as inexpensive price (67.6%) and time saving (22.9%). A factor analysis of 16 quality attributes revealed two separate factors: food quality (Cronbach's alpha=0.911) and service quality (Cronbach's alpha=0.934). Variety of menu, convenient location, and sanitation of utensils and facilities were identified by an IPA model as factors needing improvement in operational strategies.

  • Although population of the elderly is increasing rapidly, the older adults are the least users of the Internet in Korea. Prior research suggests that older adults are physically and psychologically disadvantaged when using the Internet. With the existence of the digital divide over different age groups, the objectives of this study were to identify the current status of Internet usage of Korean adults and to suggest some alternatives for solving digital divide on Internet usage. A total of 654 Korean adults, including the elderly, participated in both on-line and off-line (on-site interview) surveys using structured questionnaires. The results of statistical analyses indicated that the gap between the percentages of Internet users in younger and older groups was significantly wide, though many older adults had strong interests of Internet. To reduce this gap on digital divide, with an appropriate help from family and government, several characteristics of the elderly should be considered in designing some age-related web sites. Some effective alternatives suggested in this study may be used as basic data for universal design of Internet-oriented software.

  • This study sought to identify the solutions that private-kindergarten directors use in dealing with their work-related stress. The respondents for this study were 200 kindergarten directors in Busan, Ulsan and Gyoung-Nam province. Surveys were issued and 162 were returned and were subject to statistical analysis. The survey consisted of a total of 45 questions about work-related stress and the strategies used to cope with their work situations. The data collected data were analyzed through the SPSS 12.0 program. As a result of this study, it can be argued that, firstly, in terms of the strategies to reduce work-related stress by directors, it is best to address these issues psychologically, directly and physically. Secondly, through this process, significant differences stemming from the age of directors (p < .01) were observed, while there were no significant differences in terms of educational level and management experience in these statistics. Finally, our results indicated that as a result of confirming the differences among effective plans according to total marks of the level of job stress recognition for privatekindergarten directors, there are meaningful and significant differences in the level of job stress recognition in respect to a physical effective plan (p < .05), a negative plan (p < .01) and a direct effective plan (p < .05).

  • This study investigated whether there were statistical differences in the three categories of cosmetics brand preference- brand preference, gift brand preference, and preference for purchasing expensive cosmetics by the consumers' residence. For the data analysis, the types of cosmetics include basic and color, the cosmetics brands include domestic and imported cosmetics. The consumers' residence include metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas. The study collected the data from 477 surveys from adult women ranging from the age groups of 20s to 50s and above in 2011. Using SPSS Version 18.0 the data was analyzed by Frequency analysis, t-test. The study results were as follow: There were significant differences in the three patterns of cosmetics brand preference depending on the consumers' residence. The three patterns of preferences were in the similar trends. The results revealed while the non-metropolitan residents showed a higher level for the domestic brands, a lower level in the three categories of preferences for imported brands compared to their metropolitan counterparts in both types of basic and color. In contrast, compared to the non-metropolitan counterparts, the metropolitan residents showed a lower level of preferences in all of the three categories of cosmetics brand preference for domestic in both types of basic and color.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the important factors on juvenile delinquency and to examine relationships between sex, age, the family environment, the personality of adolescents, smoking, and juvenile delinquency. Methods: Data collection was done through questionnaire surveys. The subjects for this study consisted of 1,948 adolescents delinquents : 784, students : 1,164 in Korea, using proportional stratified random sampling method. Statistical methods employed were chi-square, t-test and path analysis. Results: The results of this study were as follows : 1. The delinquent adolescents were reared in a more dysfunctional family environment, and had a higher maladaptive personality than the other student adolescents. 2. The delinquent adolescents showed the larger amount of smoking than the student adolescents. The cause of increased smoking tendency among delinquents simply were 'for social relation', 'for diversion', 'for nicotine addiction', whereas 'for tension relieving' among non-delinquent adolescents. 3. The most powerful contributors on delinquent behavior were antisocial personality tendencies, smoking, sex, strength of parent- child relationships, and the age of the adolescents in this order. Conclusions: Our cross-sectional findings indicate that smoking was one of the most powerful contributing variables to delinquent behavior, but family environment, personality, sex and age of adolescents were also proved to be strong exogenous variables to smoking in adolescents.

  • This paper analyzed factors for employees to violate information security policy in financial companies based on the theory of reasoned action (TRA), general deterrence theory (GDT), and information security awareness and moderating effects of perceived sensitivity of customer information. Using the 376 samples that were collected through both online and offline surveys, statistical tests were performed. We found that the perceived severity of sanction and information security policy support to information policy violation attitude and subjective norm but the perceived certainty of sanction and general information security awareness support to only subjective norm. Also, the moderating effects of perceived sensitivity of customer information against information policy violation attitude and subjective norm were supported. Academic implications of this study are expected to be the basis for future research on information security policy violations of financial companies; Employees' perceived sanctions and information security policy awareness have an impact on the subjective norm significantly. Practical implications are that it can provide a guide to establish information security management strategies for information security compliance; when implementing information security awareness training for employees to deter violations by emphasizing the sensitivity of customer information, a company should make their employees recognize that the customer information is very sensitive data.

  • We consider statistical methods for nonresponse problem in social and economic sample surveys. To create a complete data set, which does not include item nonresponse data, imputation methods are generally used. In this paper, we introduce some imputation methods and compare them with one another. Also, we consider some problems, which occur when an imputed data set is treated as a response data set. Due to the imputed values, the true variance of the estimator after imputation is increased by the imputation variance. However, since usual naive variance estimator constructed from the imputed data set does not estimate the imputation variance, the true variance of the estimator after imputation tends to be underestimated. Theoretical reason is investigated and serious results are explained through a simulation study. Finally, some adjusted variance estimation methods to compensate for underestimation are presented and discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to identify the health related quality of life(HRQoL) by job characteristics and its predictors in Korean adult women. Methods: This study used data from cross-sectional surveys conducted for the 2005 National Health and Nutrition Survey, which was performed by using a face-to-face interview method. The data were analyzed by ANOVA, t-test and multiple regression using the SPSS program. Demographic characteristics, subject health state, EQ-5D were included in the study instruments. Results: The mean HRQoL index in the subjects was $0.792{\pm}0.102$. There were significant statistical differences on HRQoL among job characteristics. The health related quality of life of non-physical workers was the highest. The significant predictors of the HRQoL of all subjects were the subjective health status, the present health status compared to the previous year, education, age, marital status and income. The factors accounted for 22.1% of variance in the health related quality of life and the predictors of the HRQoL among job characteristics were different. Conclusion: These results may contribute to development of nursing strategy to improve female health related quality of life. The health related quality of life program for adult women by job characteristics is advised based on results of the study.

  • Determining the absolute neutrino mass scale and the neutrino mass hierarchy are central goals in particle physics, with important implications for the Standard Model. However, the final answer may come from cosmology, as laboratory experiments provide measurements for two of the squared mass differences and a stringent lower bound on the total neutrino mass - but the upper bound is still poorly constrained, even when considering forecasted results from future probes. Cosmological tracers are very sensitive to neutrino properties and their total mass, because massive neutrinos produce a specific redshift-and scale-dependent signature in the power spectrum of the matter and galaxy distributions. Stringent upper limits on ${\sum}m_v$ will be essential for understanding the neutrino sector, and will nicely complement particle physics results. To this end, we describe here a series of cosmological hydrodynamical simulations which include massive neutrinos, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Baryon Acoustic Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) and focused on the Lyman-${\alpha}$ ($Ly{\alpha}$) forest - also a useful theoretical ground for upcoming surveys such as SDSS-IV/eBOSS and DESI. We then briefly highlight the remarkable constraining power of the $Ly{\alpha}$ forest in terms of the total neutrino mass, when combined with other state-of-the-art cosmological probes, leaving to a stringent upper bound on ${\sum}m_v$.

  • Small area estimation has been studied using various methods such as direct, indirect, synthetic and based on regression or time series model . In this paper we investigate a motel-based small area estimation which takes into account the spare time autoregressive model. The Economic Active Population Surveys in 2001 are used for analysis and the results from space-time autoregressive(STAR) and simultaneous autoregressive(SAR) model are compared with using MSE, MAE and MB.
