  • The suppression of fluid force acting on a square prism near plane wall was studied by attaching fences on the corners of the prism. The height of the fence was 10% of the square width and the range of Reynolds number considered was Re=$2.0{\times}10^4$. The experimental parameters were the attaching position and numbers of fences, the space ratios G/B(G/B=0.1${\sim}$1.2) between prism and plane wall. The average drag coefficients were increased and the average lift coefficients were decreased and increased with the space ratios toward plane wall. The drag of the prism was reduced average 7.6% with the space ratios by attaching the normal fence at the rear and upper corner and the horizontal normal fence at the rear and lower corner on the prism. In this case, the separated flow at the front and upper corner was reattached on the upper side of the prism and the vortex streets between the prism and plane wall were appeared more slowly than that of prism without fences.

  • This paper presents a computation method of LOS(Line Of Sight) angle using IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) for an antenna on aerial vehicle to point to a stationary satellite. In the overall system, the antenna is located at the front of the vehicle, and an IMU is introduced to account for body flexure dynamic. And using the differences between the position and velocity of the IMU based navigation and those of GPS/INS at the vehicle center. Kalman filter is designed to suppress Strapdown INS drift errors.

  • A promoter that is inducible by paraquat and menadione, the superoxide generators, independently of soxRS has been found in front of the sufABCDSE operon in Escherichia coli. Based on the observation that SufA is a holomog of IscA that functions in the assembly of iron sulfur cluster and the sufA promoter (sufAp) contains a putative Fur-binding consensus, we investigated whether this gene is regulated by Fur, a ferric uptake regulator, When examined in several sufAp-lacZ chromosomal fusion strains, sufAp was induced by EDTA, an iron chelator and a well-known Fur-inducer, The basal level of sufA expression increased dramatically in fur mutant, suggesting repression of sufAp by Fur. The derepression in fur mutant and EDTA-induction of sufA expression required nucleotides up to -61, where a putative Fur box is located. Purified Fur protein bound to the DNA fragment containing the putative Fur box between -35 and -10 promoter elements. The regulation by Fur and menadione induction of sufAp acted independently. The rpoS mutation increased sufA induction by menadione, suggesting that the stationary sigma factor RpoS acts negatively on sufA induction.

  • In conventional photogrammetry, three-dimensional coordinates are obtained from two consecutive images of a stationary object photographed from two exposure stations, separated by a certain distance. However, it is impossible to photograph moving objects from two stations with one camera at the same time. Various methods to overcome this obstacle were devised e. g. taking the left and right scenes simultaneously with one camera using a beam splitter attached to the front, thus creating a stereo scene in one image. A beam splitter consists of two outer mirrors and two inner mirrors. This paper deals with research where the optical principles of the beam splitter were evaluated based on light path phenomena between the outer mirrors and the inner mirrors. A mathematical model of the geometric configuration was derived for the beam splitter. This allows us to design and control a beam splitter to obtain maximum scale and maximum base-height ratio by stepwise application of the mathematical model. The results show that the beam splitter is a very useful tool for stereophotography with one camera. The optimum geometric configurations ensuring maximum scale and base-height ratio are closely related to inner and outer reflector sizes, their inclination angles and the offsets between the outer mirrors.

  • A special purpose machine with two manipulators and quadruped crawler system is being developed to work at disaster sites where it is intended to quickly respond in the initial stages after the event. In this study, a terrain recognition module is developed so that the above special purpose machine can quickly obtain ground information to help choose its path while recognizing objects in its way, this is intended to enhance the remote driver's limited situational awareness. Terrain recognition modules were developed for two tasks (real-time path guidance, precision terrain measurements). The real-time path guidance analyzes terrain and obstacles while moving, while the precision terrain measurement feature provides more accurate terrain information by precisely measuring the ground in front of the vehicle while stationary. In this study, an air-cooled sensor protection module was developed so that the terrain recognition module can continue its vital tasks in the event of exposure to foreign substances, including scattered dust, mist and rainfall, as well as high temperatures.

  • The head-related transfer function (HRTF), which expresses the acoustic process from the sound source to the human ears in the free field, contains critical informations which the location of the source can be traced. It also makes it possible to realize multi-dimensional acoustic system that can approximately generate non-existing sound source. The use of non-individual, common HRTF brings performance degradation in localization ability such as front-back judgment error, elevation judgment error. In this paper, we have reduced the error on vertical plane by increasing the spectral notch level. The performance of the proposed method was Proved through subjective test that it is Possible to improve the ability to locate stationary/moving source.

  • Offshore oscillating water columns (OWC) represent one of the most promising forms of wave energy converters. The hydrodynamic performance of such converters heavily depends on their interactions with ocean waves; therefore, understanding these interactions is essential. In this paper, a fully nonlinear 2D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model based on RANS equations and VOF surface capturing scheme is implemented to carry out wave energy balance analyses for an offshore OWC. The numerical model is well validated against published physical measurements including; chamber differential air pressure, chamber water level oscillation and vertical velocity, overall wave energy extraction efficiency, reflected and transmitted waves, velocity and vorticity fields (PIV measurements). Following the successful validation work, an extensive campaign of numerical tests is performed to quantify the relevance of three design parameters, namely incoming wavelength, wave height and turbine damping to the device hydrodynamic performance and wave energy conversion process. All of the three investigated parameters show important effects on the wave-pneumatic energy conversion chain. In addition, the flow field around the chamber's front wall indicates areas of energy losses by stronger vortices generation than the rear wall.

  • The intensive observation (ProbeX-2010) with 6-hour launches of radiosonde was performed over Seoul metropolitan area (Dongducheon, Incheon Airport, and Yangpyeong) from 13 Aug. to 3 Sep. 2010. Five typical heavy rainfall patterns occurred consecutively which are squall line, stationary front, remote tropical cyclone (TC), tropical depression, and typhoon patterns. On 15 Aug. 03 KST, when squall line developed over Seoul metropolitan area, dry mid-level air was drawn over warm and moist low-level air, inducing strong convective instability. From 23 to 26 Aug and from 27 to 29 Aug. Rainfall event occurred influenced by stationary front and remote TC, respectively. During the stationary frontal rainy period, thermal instability was dominant in the beginning stage, but dynamic instability became strong in the latter stage. Especially, heavy rainfall occurred on 25 Aug. when southerly low level jet formed over the Yellow Sea. During the rainy period by the remote TC, thermal and dynamic instability sustained together. Especially, heavy rainfall event occurred on 29 Aug. when the tropical air with high equivalent potential temperature (>345 K) occupied the deep low-middle level. On 27 Aug. and 2 Sep. tropical depression and typhoon Kompasu affected Seoul metropolitan area, respectively. During these events, dynamic instability was very strong.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the running stability of a semi-crawler type mini-forwarder. The running stability analysis was performed by using a dynamic analysis program, RecurDyn. Physical properties of the semi-crawler type mini-forwarder was performed by using 3D CAD modeler, AutoCAD 3D. As a result from the computer simulation of stationary sideways overturning, it was found that the semi-crawler type mini-forwarder runs safely on a road with a slope not bigger than $20^{\circ}$ regardless whether it is empty or loaded, but in case of a road with a slope bigger than $20^{\circ}$, it is assumed that it is difficult for the car to run safely due to some dangers. In addition, it was found that the critical slope of its sideways overturning gets much smaller when empty since the location of its gravity center is elevated and much higher when it is loaded. As a result from the computer simulation of its hill-climbing ability, since the running speed is unstable in case of a road with a vertical slope not smaller than $28^{\circ}$, it is assumed that it is safe to drive it on a road with a slope not bigger than $28^{\circ}$. Taking a look at the result from an analysis of the running safety when it passes an obstacle, it was observed that a front tire comes off the ground when the running speed of the car is 5 and 4 km per hour respectively when it is empty and loaded while the gravity center of the front tire is watched. When taking a look at the changes in the location of the gravity center of the rear wheel crawler shaft, it was not found that the shaft comes off the ground at the test speeds both when it is empty and loaded.

  • Adsorption isotherm is the most fundamental information in adsorption separation-process. Directly from the elution profile of a peak, the elution-curve method and frontal analysis(FA) were utilized to measure the adsorption isotherm in this work. Using RP-HPLC, sample and the buffer added in mobile phase were 5'-GMP and sodium phosphate, respectively. In this experimental condition, the retention time was decreased with increase in the injected mass of sample. And the front part of a peak was very stiff, so Langmuir adsorption isotherm might be applied. By the elution-curve method, the parameters used in the isotherm were obtained by optimization method, while by the FA, the concentrations of stationary phase were measured from the elution curve and the isotherm was determined by regression analysis. Compared to FA, the consumption of sample was less, and only one or two injections were needed by the elution-curve method. Finally, the effect of concentration of sodium phosphate in mobile phase on the parameters of the isotherm was investigated.
