  • Ride characteristics of a vehicle moving on a rough ground with changing travel velocity are analyzed in this paper. The solution is difficult due to the non-stationary characteristics of the problem. Hence a new technique has been proposed to overcome this difficulty. This new technique is employed in the analysis of ride characteristics of a vehicle with changing velocity in the time/frequency domain. It is found that the proposed technique gives successful results in modelling non-stationary responses in terms of a series of stationary responses.

  • The inner side between HP stationary blades in #1 turbine of Nuclear Power Plant A is damaged by the FAC(flow assisted corrosion) which is exposed to moisture. For many years the inner side is repaired by welding the damaged part, however, FAC continues to deteriorate the original material of the welded blade ring. In this study, we have two stages to verify the integrity of stationary blade ring in nuclear power plant A. In the stage I, replication of blade ring is performed to survey the microstructure of blade ring. In the stage II, the stress analysis of blade ring is performed to verify the structural safety of blade ring. Throughout the two stages analysis of blade ring, the stationary blade ring had remained undamaged.

  • There is an increasing need to use mobile Internet as a research tool as wireless technology has been developing rapidly. However, little research has been conducted to confirm methodological validity of mobile Internet survey. This study examines the possibility of using mobile Internet as a survey tool by comparing survey results of mobile and stationary Internet surveys with the same questionnaire. The results were analyzed from both economic and theoretical perspectives. Both mobile and stationary Internet survey sites were implemented with supports from domestic mobile and stationary Internet portals and telecommunication companies. The results show that there exist several differences between two survey methods. First, many respondents who use mobile Internet gave up at the early stage. However, once people continued to respond, they answered the questions to the end. Second, means and standard deviations of mobile internet respondents were higher than that of stationary Internet. Third, the results of two survey methods were significantly different by comparing construct validity that includes both discriminant validity and convergent validity. Finally, this paper ends with implications and limitations of using mobile Internet as a survey tool.

  • This paper presents a novel design of indoor airship having a passive wheeled mechanism and its stationary position control. This wheeled blimp can work both on the ground using wheeled vehicle part and in the air using the floating capability of the blimp part. The wheeled blimp stands on the floor keeping its balance using a caster-like passive wheel mechanism. In tele-guidance application, stationary position control is required to make the wheeled blimp naturally communicate with people in standing phase since the stationary blimp system responds sensitively to air flow even in indoor environments. To control the desired stationary position, a computed torque control method is adopted. By performing a controller design through dynamic analysis, the control characteristics of the wheeled blimp system have been found and finally the stable control system has been successfully developed. The effectiveness of the controller is verified by experiment for the real wheeled blimp system.

  • A functional central limit theorem is obtained for a stationary linear process of the form $X_{t}=\;{\Sigma_{j=0}}^{\infty}a_{j}{\epsilon}_{t-j}, where {${\in}_{t}$}is a strictly stationary associated sequence of random variables with $E_{{\in}_t}{\;}={\;}0.{\;}E({\in}_t^2){\;}<{\;}{\infty}{\;}and{\;}{a_j}$ is a sequence of real numbers with (equation omitted). A central limit theorem for a stationary linear process generated by stationary associated processes is also discussed.

  • This paper describes a stationary position control of a wheeled blimp. The wheeled blimp is composed of a blimp filled with helium gas and a wheeled vehicle part. The wheeled blimp is designed to enable both flying in the air and standing on the floor. The wheeled blimp stands on the floor keeping its balance. However, it is difficult for the wheeled blimp to maintain a stationary position in standing phase since the stationary blimp system responds sensitively to air current even in indoor environments. In order to keep the stationary position restraining motion caused by an uncertain airflow, a position controller for the wheeled blimp is needed. Controller design based on dynamic m...

  • Recently, the concern on sound qualify (SQ) is on the steep increase in the fields of vehicle and home appliance and over the fast few decades a considerable number of studies have been conducted on SQ evaluation. As a result, basic procedure for SQ evaluation has been already suggested. Although most interesting sounds have time-varying features, however, little is known about their SQ evaluation. The purpose of this study is to systematize a method for SQ evaluation of non-stationary sound. For this, various listening tests procedure for non-stationary sound is introduced and it is attempted to find out correlation between various SQ metrics and subjective data obtain from listening test. Booming of car interior noise in acceleration is used as an example and finally, representative value is obtained for the interesting sensation of non-stationary sound.

  • In general, background subtraction based methods are used to detect the moving objects in visual tracking applications. In this paper we employed background subtraction based scheme to detect the temporarily stationary objects. We proposed two schemes for stationary object detection and we compare those in terms of detection performance and computational complexity. In the first approach we used single background and in the second approach we used dual backgrounds, generated with different learning rates, in order to detect temporarily stopped object. Finally, we used normalized cross correlation (NCC) based image comparison to monitor and track the detected stationary object in a video scene. The proposed method is robust with partial occlusion, short time fully occlusion and illumination changes, as well as it can operate in real time.

  • In the nonlinear dynamic structural analysis the given ground excitation as an input should be well defined. Because of the lack of recorded accelerograms in Korea it is required to generate an artificial earthquake by a stochastic model of ground excitation with various dynamic properties rather than recorded accelerograms. It is well known that earthquake motions are generally non-stationary with time-varying intensity and frequency content. Many researchers have proposed non-stationary random process models. Yeh and Wen (1990) proposed a non-stationary modulation function and a power spectral density function to describe such non-stationary characteristics. Satio and Wen(1994) proposed a non-stationary stochastic process model to generate earthquake ground motions which are compatible with design reponse spectrum at sites in Japan. this paper shows the process to modify power spectrum compatible with target design response spectrum for generating of nonstationary artificial earthquake ground motions. Target reponse spectrum is chosen by ATC14 to calibrate the response spectrum according to a give recurrence period.

  • For the poor observability of azimuth misalignment angle and east gyro drift rate of the traditional initial alignment, a bran-new SINS stationary fast self-alignment approach is proposed. By means of analyzing the characteristic of the strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) stationary alignment seriously, the new approach takes full advantage of the specific force and angular velocity information given by inertial measurement unit (IMU) instead of the mechanization of SINS. Firstly, coarse alignment algorithm is presented. Secondly, a new fine alignment model for SINS stationary self-alignment is derived, and the observability of the model is analysed. Then, a modified Sage-Husa adaptive Kalman filter is introduced to estimate the misalignment angles. Finally, some computer simulation results illustrate the efficiency of the new approach and its advantages, such as higher alignment accuracy, shorter alignment time, more self-contained and less calculation.
