Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate plantar foot pressure and static balance according to the type of insole in the elderly. Methods: Thirteen elderly (mean age: $67.08{\pm}2.25years$, mean height: $159.63{\pm}9.64cm$, mean body weight: $61.48{\pm}9.06kg$) who had no previous injury experience in the lower limbs and a normal gait pattern participated in this study. Three models of insoles of the normal, 3D, and triangle types were selected for the test. The Pedar-X system and Pedar-X insoles, 3.3 km/h of walking speed, and a compilation of 20 steps walking stages were used to analyze foot-pressure distribution. Static balance test was conducted using Gaitview AFA-50, and balance (opening eyes, closing eyes) was inspected for 20 s. One-way ANOVA was conducted to test the significance of the results with the three insoles. p-value of less than .05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean foot pressure under the forefoot regions was the lowest with the 3D insole during treadmill walking (p<.05). The mean value under the midfoot was the highest with the 3D insole (left: p<.05, right: p<.01). The mean value under the rearfoot was the lowest with the 3D insole (p<.001). The maximum foot pressure value under the foot regions was the lowest on both sides of the forefoot with the 3D insole. A statistically significant difference was seen only in the left foot (p<.01). The maximum value under the midfoot was the highest with the 3D insole (p<.001). No statistically significant difference was detected on the values under the rearfoot. In the case of vertical ground reaction force (GRF), statistically significant difference was seen only in the left side rearfoot (p<.01). However, static balance values (ENV, REC, RMS, Total Length, Sway velocity, and Length/ENV) did not show significant differences by the type of insole. Conclusion: These results show that functional insoles can decrease plantar pressure and GRF under the forefoot and rearfoot. Moreover, functional insoles can dislodge the overload of the rearfoot and forefoot to the midfoot. However, functional insoles do not affect the static balance in the elderly.
Theoretical and experimental study is conducted on the contact pressure distribution of a radial tire in motion under various camber angles. Tire construction is modelled by a spring bedded elastic ring, consisted of sidewall springs and a composite belt ring. The contact area is assumed to be a trapezoidal shape varying with camber angles and weighted load. The basic equation in a quasi-static form is derived for the deformation of a running belt with a constant velocity by the aid of Lagrange-Euler transformation. Galerkin's method and stepwise calculation are applied for solving the basic equation and the mechanical boundary condition along both sides of the contact belt part subjected to shearing forces transmitted from the sidewall spring. Experimental results on the contact pressure, measured by pressure sensors embedded in the surface of the drum tester, correspond well with the calculated ones for the test tire under various camber angles, running velocities and weighted loads. These results indicate that a buckling phenomenon of the contact belt in the widthwise direction occurs due to the effect of camber angle.

The interaction of weak normal shock wave with turbulent boundary layer in a supersonic nozzle was investigated experimentally by wall static pressure measurements and by schlieren optical observations. The lime-mean flow in the interaction region was classified into four patterns according to the ratio of the pressure $p_k$ at the first kink point in the pressure distribution of the interaction region to the pressure $p_1$ just upstream of the shock. It is shown for any flow pattern that the wall static pressure rise near the shock foot can be described by the "free interaction" which is defined by Chapman et al. The ratio of the triple point height $h_t$ of the bifurcated shock to the undisturbed boundary layer thickness ${\delta}_1$ upstream of the interaction increases with the upstream Mach number $M_1$, and for a fixed $M_1$, the normalized triple point height $h_t/{\delta}_1$ decreases with increasing ${\delta}_1/h$, where h is the duct half-height.

Supersonic projectiles like rockets, missiles, or aircraft find various applications in the field of defense. The shape of the wings is mainly designed as wedge shape or delta wings for supersonic vehicles. The study of supersonic flows over the wedges and flat plate delta wings around the large scale of incidence angle is considered in the supersonic projectile. In the present paper, the prime attention is to study the pressure at the nose of the plane wedge over the various Mach number and the various angles of incidence. Ghosh piston theory is used to obtain the pressure distribution analytically, and the results are compared with CFD analysis results. The wedge angle and Mach number are the parameters considered for the research work. The range of wedge angle is 50 to 250, and Mach number is 1.5 to 4.0 are considered for the current research work. The analytical results show excellent agreement with the CFD results. The results show that both the parameters wedge angle and Mach number are influential parameters to vary the static pressure. The static pressure increases with an increase in Mach number and wedge angle.

The performance analysis test of the scramjet engine intake was conducted under the Mach 5 condition of the scramjet engine test facility, a free-jet ground test facility of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. A pitot/static pressure rake installed at the rear of the isolator was designed and manufactured to measure the total pressure recovery rate and mass capture ratio, which are typical performance factors of the scramjet engine intake. The effect of the rake mounted at the rear of the isolator on the intake, the performance analysis measured by the rake, and the change in wall static pressure distribution according to the angle of attack were performed. Finally, the point at which the intake unstart occurred was confirmed by using the rear back pressure adjusting device, which simulates pressure rise in the combustor, and the results are summarized in this paper.
In the current study, a series of experimental and analytical evaluations were performed to introduce the horizontal pseudo static coefficient (kh) as a function of the wall configuration and the reinforcement type for analyzing reinforced soil walls. For this purpose, eight shaking table tests were performed on reduced-scale models of integrated and two-tiered walls reinforced by metal strip and geogrid to determine the distribution of dynamic lateral pressure in the walls. Then, the physical models were analyzed using Mononobe-Okabe method to estimate the value of kh required to establish the dynamic lateral pressures similar to those observed in shaking table tests. Based on the results, the horizontal pseudo static coefficient and the position of resultant lateral force (R) were introduced as a function of the horizontal peak ground acceleration (HPGA), the wall configuration, the reinforcement type as well as maximum wall displacement.
The Coulomb and Rankine theories have been usually used for design of retaining walls, in which the earth pressures have been assumed as a triangular distribution For the rigid retaining w리1 with inclined bacuace and horizontal surface backfilled by cohesionless soils, the analytical method of earth pressure distribution has been newly suggested by using the concept of the flat arch. The active thrust obtained by this method agrees well with those by the existing theories, except the Rankine solution. The analyzed results show that the height to the center of pressure depends mainly on the inclination of the back wall and the wall friction, instead of 0.33H, where H is the wall height.

Brakes are one of the important safety parts in cars. The requirements of brakes in performance, in comfort, and working lifetime are high. This paper presents the static analysis on the stress and temperature of a automotive drum brake. The particular interest is the distribution of the contact pressure between brake lining and drum. The problems to be solved are the effects of friction coefficient, actuation force, temperature, and brake component's stiffness. The contact problem includes friction, and is solved using the ABAQUS.
This paper describes the development of performance analysis technique for a leaf-type gas lubricated fail bearing. Stiffness coefficient and frictional damping due to the slip between all contacts of leaves are evaluated for various leaf structures. The fluid film thickness and pressure distribution are computed but it is not considered the elastic deformation by film pressure. The analysis results include the effects that the curvature radius and the length of leaf and the friction coefficient have on the static and dynamic characteristics of the foil bearings.
