  • This paper presents vibration control performance of a squeeze mode ER mount for high static load. After experimentally investigating the field-dependent damping force under the squeeze mode motion, a squeeze mode ER mount which can support 200 kg of static load is designed and manufactured. Displacement transmissibility of the proposed ER mount is experimentally evaluated in frequency domain with respect to the intensity of the electric field, and a sky-hook control algorithm is designed to attenuate unwanted vibration. Vibration isolation capabilities of the flow mode ER mount and rubber mount are compared to those of the proposed squeeze mode ER mount.

  • Perimeter load transfer functions were developed by an analysis of the static pile load test results of the 7 large diameter drilled shafts constructed in domestic areas. Using the pile axial load distributions obtained from the static pile load tests of large diameter drilled shafts, the unit skin frictions were analyzed and, based on unit skin friction test data, perimeter load transfer functions could be suggested. The load transfer distributions calculated by suggested functions and the load transfer functions obtained from the bi-directional pile load tests were compared. As a result, the 2 load transfer distributions were coincided, respectively.

  • All the loads in the real world are dynamic loads and it is well known that structural optimization under dynamic loads is very difficult. Thus the dynamic loads are often transformed to the static loads using dynamic factors. However, due to the difference of load characters, there can be considerable differences between the results from static and dynamic analyses. When the natural frequency of a structure is high, the dynamic analysis result is similar to that of static analysis due to the small inertia effect on the behavior of the structure. However, if the natural frequency is low, the inertia effect should not be ignored. Then, the behavior of the dynamic system is different from that of the static system. The difference of the two cases can be explained from the relationship between the homogeneous and the particular solutions of the differential equation that governs the behavior of the structure. Through various examples, the difference between the dynamic analysis and the static analysis are shown. Also the optimization results considering dynamic loads are compared with static loads.

  • Laboratory model tests to determine the permanent settlement of a surface strip foundati on supported by geogrid -reinforced saturated clay and subjected to a low -frequency cyclic load were performed. In conducting the test, the foundation was initially subjected to an allowable static load. The cyclic load was then super -imposed over the static load. The variation of the maximum permanent settlement with the intensity of the static load and the intensity of the amplitude of the cyclic load are also presented.

  • Aluminum carbody for rolling stocks is light and perfectly recycled, but includes severe defects which are very dangerous to fatigue strength. Static load test has been performed up to date to assess structural safety of the carbody. However, static load test is not sufficient to evaluate fatigue strength of the carbody, because fatigue failure is caused by dynamic load. In this study, the established load test methods for carbody are described and the characteristics of the methods are discussed. Also, a testing method to simulate dynamic loading condition is proposed for evaluation of fatigue strength of the carbody The results by the proposed testing method are compared with the results by the static load test and new findings are discussed.

  • In many conventional analysis of voltage stability the effect of load characteristics is ignored. But in the real system the load is composed of various components. Therefore if the load composition could be modeled then it will plays an important role in the analysis of static voltage stability. And also, if the system loss generally imposed to slack bus in the conventional load flow calculation is redistributed to each generator the accuracy of static voltage stability analysis can be improved. This paper presents the effect of load composition in the analysis of system stability as well the loss redistribution algorithm. And this paper will compare the result of conventional method with that of the proposed method.

  • The systematic method to construct equivalent static load from the given dynamic load is proposed in the present study. Previously reported works to construct equivalent static load were based on ad hoc methods. They may results in unreliable structural design. The present study proposes a selection scheme of degrees of freedom(d.o.f) for imposing the equivalent static loads. The d.o.fs are selected by Two-level condensation scheme(TLCS). TLCS consists of two two-steps. The first step is the energy estimation in element-level and the second step consists of the traditional sequential elimination precudure. Through several numerical examples, the efficiency and reliability of proposed scheme is verified.

  • The aim of the present study is the characteristics of bridge rubber pads and suggested how to determine the stiffness the pads. A disk bearing is operated as an elastic bearing in the vertical direction and is composed of a Polyether Urethane (polyurethane) disk for elastic support and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to accommodate movement. Static tests are conducted in a laboratory to determine the static behavior of a Polyurethane disk. Finite Element (FE) analysis is also performed to verify the static performance. For dynamic behavior, four disk bearings having the identical Polyurethane disk used in the static tests are installed in a full size railway bridge and tested under a running locomotive. From the tests results, the static and dynamic stiffness of disk bearings are estimated and compared with each other. In the procedure to estimate the stiffness of a pad, the dead load(pre-load) of a bridge and live load of a vehicle are considered.

  • Purpose: A study was conducted to ensure the structural safety of a raised girder bridge with improved cross-sectional efficiency compared to the conventional PSC girder. For this purpose, the cross-sectional specifications such as girder length, height, and width were determined, the arrangement of the tendons was designed, and the practical performance of the raised girder under static and dynamic loads was verified. Method: The static performance experiment examined the serviceability limit state by measuring behavioral responses such as deflection and cracking to primary and secondary static loads. In addition, the dynamic load loading experiment measured the acceleration and displacement behavior response over time to calculate the natural frequency and damping ratio to examine the usability limit state. Result: As a result of the static performance test, the deflection value based on the maximum applied load showed stable behavior, and the crack width measured at the maximum applied load level was very small, satisfying the serviceability limit state. In addition, a natural frequency exceeding the natural frequency calculated during the design of the dynamic loading experiment was found, and a damping ratio that satisfies the current regulations was found to be secured.

  • A full-scale static test for a composite structure small aircraft (KC-100) was conducted in the KARI. The test includes 15 full-scale test and 7 local test conditions. Test requirements with test schedule, test article with dummy structures, test load generation, test system, and equipment are introduced for the test. Test load data of the 1st test condition(U1) was analyzed to evaluate an accuracy of load control for the test. The analysis results show that load data obtained during test were within tolerance of Static Null Pacing Error(SNPE) and the error value of load control was 8.6N. The error of load controls for the full-scale static test using dozens of actuators was calculated by a method suggested by authors. Test data for all other test conditions is also shown in this paper. Finally, reactions measured from restraint system of the U1 test condition show that the reaction changes as load increment. The factors which may change the change of reactions for a full-scale static test are introduced in this study.
