  • In this paper, and estimation method for estimating the states of underwater vehicle systems with external unknown disturbance is proposed. First, the dynamics of underwater vehicle are induced by Taylor series expansion in the vertical plane and horizontal plane, respectively. For constructing the system model, the external efforts, i.e., the sea surface disturbances, the current, wave and etc., are regarded as external unknown disturbances. Thus the disturbance is added as external input into state-space form of underwater vehicle system. To estimate the state of systems with unknown disturbance, a disturbance observer which does not effected the external unknown input is proposed, and the existence condition for the observer is given. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed disturbance observer for robust control of underwater vehicle systems is verified by using numerical simulation.

  • The method of identifying the plant models in this paper is the Observer Kalman filter identification (OKID) method. This method of system identification has several pertinent advantages. First, it assumes that the system in question is a discrete linear time-invariant (LTI) state-space system. Second, it requires only input and output data to formulate the model, no a priori knowledge of the system is needed. Third, the OKID method produces a psudo-Kalman state estimator, which is very useful for control applications. Last, the modal balanced realization of the system model means that tuncation errors will be small. Thus, even in the case of model order error the results of that error will...

  • This paper presents an internal oil leakage detection problem for a hydraulic single-rod cylinder. We derive the dynamics of the hydraulic cylinder as a state space model, and then design a T—S fuzzy model-based fault detection observer. We adopt an H observer design scheme so that the observer is robust against disturbance and relatively sensitive to the leakage fault. Sufficient design conditions are derived in the form of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is provided to verify the proposed techniques.

  • The System identification is the process of developing or improving a mathematical model of a physical system using experimental data of the input, output and noise relationship. The field of system identification has been an important discipline within the automatic control area. The reason is the requirement that mathematical models having a specified accuracy must be used to apply modem control methods. In this paper, it is confirmed that we can obtain transfer function of flexible beam that is expressed in the forms of identified state-space system matrix A, B, C, D and identified observer gain G using Eigensystem Realization Algorithm including singular value decomposition. And these matrices can be applied to the automatic control. In addition to, it is also confirmed that transfer function can express a system using identified observer gain G, in spite of a noisy data or a periodic disturbance.

  • This paper presents a scheme for designing a fuzzy observer for servo control system with nonlinear element, i.e., backlash. It is found that backlash occurs when the feed direction is reversed. Due to the imperfect transient response of the driving mechanism, not only the static backlash error but also the dynamic backlash error is generated on the contouring profile. And also, we utilized two inertia modeling in order to deals with coupled system accurately. The overall control system consists of two parts - a servo controller and an Fuzzy obsever. It is a Takagi-sugeno type fuzzy model whose consequent part is of the state space form is obtained. A simulation is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, we deal with the problem of reducing the order of the detection filter for the linear time-invariant system. Even if the detection filter is generally designed in the form of full order linear observer, we show that it is possible to reduce its order when the response of fault signals is limited to a subspace of the estimation state space. We propose a method to extract the subspace using the observer canonical form considering the dynamics related to the remaining subspace acts as a disturbance. We designed a reduced order detection filter to reject the disturbance as well as to guarantee fault detection and isolation. A simulation result for a 5th order system is presented as an illustrative example of the proposed design method.

  • Auto Guided Vehicle (AGV) equipped with mecanum wheels can move in all directions, unlike ordinary wheeled AGVs. In this paper, we propose a robust trejectory tracking control method for the mecanum wheeled AGVs in the presence of disturbances. It is constructed by combining impedance control with Integral Sliding Mode Control (ISMC), which shows robust performance against disturbances, and adding a disturbance observer (DOB) that estimates and removes disturbances. Simulation result using MATLAB/SIMULINK shows that the proposed control method has robust performance in tracking the reference trajectory under the circumstance with disturbance. The control performance is further improved when the disturbance observer is additionally used. In addition, the performance of the proposed control method was verified through experiment. It shows the result of tracking the set trajectory well.

  • Physical importance of cutting temperatures has long been recognized. Cutting temperatures have strongly influenced both the tool life and the metallurgical state of machined surfaces. Temperatures in drilling processes are particularly important, because chips remain in contact with the tool for a relatively long time in a hole. Tool temperatures tend to be higher in drilling processes than in other in machining processes. This paper concerns with modeling of thermal behaviors in drilling processes as well as estimation of the cutting temperature distribution based on remote temperature measurements. One- and two-dimensional estimation problems are proposed to analyze drilling temperatures. The proposed thermal models are compared with solutions of finite element methods. Observer algorithms are developed to solve inverse heat conduction problems. In order to apply the estimation of cutting temperatures, approximation methods are proposed by using the solution of the finite element method. In two-dimensional analysis, a moving heat source according to feedrate of the drilling process is regarded as a fixed heat source with respect to the drilling location. Simulation results confirm the application of the proposed methods.

  • Active vibration control of intelligent laminated composite plates is performed experimental1y Laminated composite place is modeled by the system identification method. For the system identification process, the laminated composite place is excited by two piezoelectric actuators with PRBS signals. At the same time, the displacement of the laminated composite plate is measured by a gap sensor. From these excited PRBS signals and the measured displacement sequence, system parameters of the laminated composite plate are estimated using a recursive prediction error method. Model of the laminated composite plate with two piezoeletric actuators is assumed to be the form of ARMAX. From the estimated ARHMAX model, a state space equation of the observable canonical form is obtained. With this state space equation, a controller and an observer for active vibration control is designed using the optimal control method. Controller and observer are implemented on a digital system. Experiments on the vibration control are Performed with changing the outer layer fiber orientation of intelligent composite plates.

  • This paper is concerned with a design procedure for constructing finite dimensional compensators for a class of infinite dimensional aystems. Basically, this procedure consists of decomposing the state space of the basis of its modes and utilizing well-known finite dimensional algorithms for constructing observers and state feedback control laws. The finite dimensional observer dynamics is modified to account for the effect of the residual modes so as to achieve the stabelity of the closed loop system asymptotically.
