What is the Meaning of Black in Korean Traditional Mourning Dress?

  • The meanings of colors vary with time and space. For the most important events in a person's life, such as wedding or funeral, people use color to symbolize their identities or roles. Traditionally, the colors of dress had indicated the wearer's age, class, or marital status in Korea. However, Korea's exposure to western cultures has affected in many dimensions of its modern history. Especially, influenced by social change, the traditional dress has undergone many modifications in forms, silhouettes, materials, and color. However, women's mourning dress has been maintained as a long lasting tradition and the use of white in mourning dress has been regarded as a norm until recently, while men have worn a regular black suit with a black tie. But, the shift from white to black in mourning dress has been observed in recent mourning practices. To examine this change of color in Korean traditional mourning dress, a historical approach utilizing multiple resources, such as interview, observations of events, documents, and archival records was applied.

  • The purpose of this research is to highlight the importance of customer experience relating to servitization of manufacturing and to develop an index to analyze customer experience management. It occurred that customer experience management analysis should perform in diverse dimensions to get higher customer satisfaction. Following to this idea, new idex is designed : CEMC(Customer Experience Management Competency scale). CEMC includes three parties which are internal expert, external expert and customer, as evaluators of the appraisal. Each evaluator participates in the inspection about customer experience management through a questionnaire which composed four sections : Product and service, Business process, Culture and Asset. Researchers apply this index to one small manufacturing business and analyze the state of customer experience management. The result would be a reference for building strategy and align inside organization.

  • This presentation will focus on computational materials research carried out across length scales. Examples will be presented that illustrate the way in which state-of-the-art quantum mechanical calculations and atomistic simulations can be applied to explain experimental data, design new structures, determine mechanisms, and enable new investigations. In particular, the presentation will present key findings from an integrated experimental and computational investigation of the tribological properties of polytetrafluoroethylene and its composites and predictions regarding the mechanical and tribological properties of inorganic nanostructured materials.

  • This technical note is intended to introduce a state-of-the-art offshore construction vessel. This unique vessel is for multi-purpose Field Development Ship (FDS) for deepwater to ultra-deepwater. The FDS is a construction vessel with dynamic positioning (DP) system intended to develop offshore oil and gas field in water depth up to 3000 m. The design criteria and main capacities of the vessel are discussed.

  • This paper presents development of finite element simulation program and analysis of hot extrusion through square dies with a mandrel. The design of extrusion dies is still an art rather than science. Die design for a new extrusion process is developed from through in-plant trials. In the present paper, a three-dimensional steady-state finite element simulation program is developed. Steady-state assumption is used for both the analyses of deformation and temperature. The developed program is effectively used to simulate hollow extrusion of several sections. Distributions of temperature effective strain rate, mean strain rate and mean stress are studied for an effective design of extrusion dies.

포스트모던시대 조형예술의 장소성과 환경 (Site-Specificity and Environment of Visual Art in the Postmodern Era)

  • Nature/Landscape is surrounding space in which we make living. It is considerably comprehensive tenn. but on the other hand, the site can be existence, experience, and certain circumstance with boundaries. Based on these places, through contemporary art criticism, this study is to contemplate how art since 1960s, especially, site-specific art in three-dimensional space intervene in the environment. Artists of today put more value on the process and act of art making founded on the external, and they tend to create the characteristic of site or to indicate linguistic documentation. Moreover, a large-scale tendency of contemporary sculpture and 'occupation of specific site' seems to accede spatial conception from architecture. The core that recognizes these artworks is with body, that is to say, the space in which Self becomes the subject by changing the structure of the work while moving around it. In particular, 'Site-specific Art (in situ)' sometimes determines the form inward or outward It also relates directly on viewer's five senses by looking, hearing, and feeling, touching, and interacting. For example, in Richard Serra's , the viewer who moves around the work has the role to manipulate the movement of the work by perception. Works of In situ and works that planned for specific site suggest 'occupation of site' as of the function of the work These sites are ideal and special as well as being independent. Ultimately, it seems that the creative process of contemporary artists is to carry those intended form on the structure of perception. Furthermore, law of nature such as entropy, and acceptance of contingency helped organic structure of artwork become more abundant. For Robert Smithson, entropy suggests of reaching to a state of equilibriumin which everything is the same. This means that any core is justifiable and any rank is possible. Because the world without a core is a labyrinth of boundless exploration.

Fast Incremental Checkpoint Based on Page-Level Rewrite Interval Prediction

  • This paper introduces page-level rewrite interval prediction (PRWIP). By recording and analyzing the memory access history at page-level, we are able to predict the future memory accesses to any pages. Leveraging this information, this paper proposes a faster incremental checkpoint design by overlapping checkpoint phase with computing phase and thus achieves higher performance. Experimental results show that our new incremental checkpoint design can achieve averagely 22% speedup over traditional incremental checkpoint and 14% over the previous state-of-the-art work.

경험의 서사화와 시각화 방법을 적용한 화예작품 창작의 연구 (A Study on th e Creation of Floral Art Works Applying th e Meth ods of th e Narration and Visualization of the Experiences)

  • 본 연구는 연구자 자신의 경험 가운데 의미 있게 느껴지는 사건의 순간을 감각적 지각을 통해 반추하는 방법적 과정을 통해 추출하고 파악함으로써 직관적 통찰을 행하고 그를 통해 화예 작품 창작을 시도한 연구이다. 구체적으로는 경험의 서사화와 시각화를 시도하였는데 경험의 서사화 단계에서는 무의식 상태의 느낌을 포착하는 수단으로서 감각적으로 지각되는 느낌과 주관적 인상, 정서, 의식의 흐름을 기술하는 느낌의 글쓰기 방법을 '경험의 탐색', '경험의 구체화', '경험의 의미 생성'의 세 단계로 실행, 적용하였고, 경험의 시각화 단계에서는 이미지리서치를 통한 이미지의 수집, 선택, 분류 및 해석을 가지고 '이미지 형성하기', '직관활용하기', '기억작용으로 지각하기'의 세 방법을 실행, 적용하였다. 최종적으로 이들 방법의 통합과 추가적인 보완 리서치 및 글쓰기를 통하여 '해먹은 좋다', '햇볕이 따듯했던 옥상', '홀로 물가에 서다', '뜨거운 모래밭과 혼미함', '멋진 식물원에서의 한때'의 5개 작품의 창작이 이루어졌다. 종합하면 경험의 서사화와 시각화 방법을 결합 후 적용하여 작품 창작 과정의 방법적 접근을 시도한 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다 하겠다.

  • A high-efficiency turbo steam compressor has been successfully developed for the MVR desalination system, first one in Korea. The state-of-the-art design methods using real gas properties were applied to get all the aerodynamic design results. Bull and pinion gear trains, tilting-pad bearings and investment cast impellers were developed also to be integrated into the integral gear-driven turbo steam compressor. System tests show highly efficient performance.

  • 새로움과 독특함을 추구하는 현대인의 의식구조와 예술의 본질을 바탕으로 예술과 디자인, 그리고 영상의 영역에 있어서도 다양한 매체가 끊임없이 등장하고 있다 . 레이저 또한 전자공학과 물리학의 발달에 힘입어 그 응용기술과 적용분야가 광범위해 지고 있는 가운데 엔터테인먼트 및 각종 이벤트 산업과 전시영상 등, 예술과 디자인의 영역에서 신비하고 환상적인 감동을 가져다주는 시각매체로 확고한 위치를 차지하게 되었다. 본 연구는 첨단과학의 산물로서, 그 독특한 물리적 특성으로 인한 환상적 시각효과창출로 새로운 시각전달매체로 등장하고 있는 레이저에 대한 영상제작측면에서의 연구로서, 레이저영상을 기획하고 제작함에 있어서 레이저의 물리적 특성과 테크놀로지 및 하드웨어상의 구성을 검토하고 레이저가 이미지를 완성시키는 그래픽 적 특성들을 고찰하여 레이저영상 기획 자와 연출가 및 아티스트들의 보다 활발한 레이저영상제작을 도모하고 궁극적으로는 질적으로 보다 완성도 높은 작품을 제작할 수도 있도록 한다.
