  • The mono(aryl)cyanoplatinum(II) complex $[Pt(CN)(C_6H_3{CH_2NMe_2}_2-26)]$, reacts with the dihalogens to yield the mono(aryl)cyanoplatinum complexes $[PtX_2(CN)(C_6H_3{CH_2NMe_2}_2-26)]$, (X = Cl, Br, I). The structural configuration of the two halogen atoms for a square planar platinum complex was studied by 1H-NMR spectroscopy and led to a mixture of trans and cis orientation. The trans orientation was found to be more stable in energy (1.33 kcal/mol) than the cis orientation by means of Extended H ckel calculations. On the base of a combination of the analysis of $^1H-NMR$, $^{13}C-NMR spectra and computational calculations it is assumed that the intermediate consists of an initial attack in the linear transition state, leading to the $S_{N}2$ type mechanism.

  • Design load calculations which depend on the thermal characteristics of the building structure such as the wall, roof, and fenestration provide the basic data for selecting an HVAC system and its equipment. Most of domestic multi-family houses include a high thermal storage layer like massive concrete structure and a floor heating structure. This study is to compare the results of the design heating load between steady state and unsteady state calculation in order to comprehend the thermal storage effect in multi-family houses. The design heating load under the steady state calculation is estimated from 5.4% to 7.8% larger than that under the unsteady state in the typical floor of a multi-family house model. The design heating load considered the safety factors like a orientation and location factor also is 21.4% to 26.5% larger than that by the unsteady state calculation. So, the safety factors for use of the practicing engineer are analyzed as the main factor of a heating plant oversizing.

  • This study was designed to find tendencies of housing value orientation of the model steel house visitors. Questionnaires were collected in June, 1997, 1,550 in total, 508 cases from Seoul, 456 cases from Pohang, and 486 cases from Kwangyang. Data were analyzed in terms of housing value orientation, using statistical methods including frequencies, mean, percentages, chi-square test and multiple regression. The major findings are as follows; 1. The subjects were highly educated(64% of them were college graduates) with the monthly income over 2,000,000won(approximately $1,540). The average monthy income of the subjects in Seoul, about 4,000,000won($3,070), was much higher than that of other areas. Most of the subjects were condominium owners(72%), who preferred single detatched houses or town houses located in suburban areas. 2. Differences in general tendencies among the three regional groups were statistically significant. Most significantly, subjects living in Pohang regarded the reputation of the building construction company most importnat. Subjects of all three regional areas, especially in Pohang, emphasized investment value. The price of the steel house was regarded as very important by all the groups tested. The housing value orientation was analyzed in 3 aspects; (1) Facility.Plumbing.Structure(FPS), (2) Interior space formation.Design(ID) and (3) Developmental complex.Near Environment(DN). Interior environment level, stability of house structure, and finighing state of interiors were identified as the important factors in the area of FPS(p<.05). The Interior plan organization was the most important factor among ID. As for DN, rated importantly were educational facilities, green areas, convenience of commercial facilities within the developmental complex were rated importantly.

  • Despite the continuous efforts of academic libraries to develop various user-centered outreach programs, services and new processes, library anxiety still remains a threat to university students' full use of academic library resources. Meanwhile, a new generation of students, called the "Net Generation," has grown up with developed information and communication technology enter university and must be persuaded to turn to the library. To serve this new group of patrons better, libraries need to adopt new technologies. However, since an initial introduction cost and labor efforts are involved in the integration of the technology, identifying the right time for introduction and the right scope of innovation is essential but difficult. The study proposes a not-yet-well-known, novel experimental design, Regression Point Displacement (RPD), to evaluate an orientation program applying Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) for STEM students. Since this RPD design requires only one treatment group, the model is expected to be the incomparable and rational way to evaluate the new MAR technology. In the context of an informal learning experience, the findings of the study will determine the effectiveness of an orientation employing the MAR technology.

  • The force and moment simulation of a steady-state rolling tire taking the effect of tread pattern into account is described using a steady-state transport method with ABAQUS. Tread meshes can not fully consider a tread pattern because detailed tread meshes are not allowed in the steady-state transport method. Therefore, the tread elements are modeled to have orthotropic property instead of isotropic property. The force and moment simulation has been carried out for the cases of both isotropic and orthotropic properties of tread elements. Both cases of simulation results are then compared with the experimental results. It is verified that the orthotropic case is in a better agreement with the experimental result than the isotropic case. Angle effects of tread pattern have been studied by changing the orientation angle of orthotropic property of tread. It is shown that the groove angle in the tread shoulder region has a more effect on force and moment of a tire than that in the tread center region.

  • Proteins in highly oriented lipid bilayer samples are useful to study membrane protein structure determination. Planar lipid bilayers aligned and supported on glass slide were prepared. These stack of glass slide with planar lipid bilayers are not well fit for commercial solid-state NMR probe with round coil. Therefore, homebuilt solid-state NMR probe was built and used for a stack of thin glass plates and RF coil is wrapping directly around the flat square sample. The overall filling factor of the coil is much better and the large surface area enhances the extent to orientation by providing uniform environments for the phospholipids and the high ratio of circumference to area reduces edge effects. $^1H\;and\;^{15}N$ double resonance probe for 400 MHz NMR (9.4T) with a flat coil (coil size: 11 mm ${\times}$ 20 mm ${\times}$ 4 mm) is constructed and tested.

  • This paper presents a practical approach for surface reconstruction from unoriented point clouds. Instead of estimating local surface orientation, we first generate a set of depth images from the input point clouds, and a coarse mesh is then generated based on them by space carving techniques. The resultant mesh is progressively refined by local mesh refinement and optimization according to surface distance measure. A manifold mesh approximating the input points within an given tolerance is finally obtained. Our approach is easy to implement, but has the ability to outputs high quality meshes in different resolutions. We show that the proposed approach is not sensitive to several types of data disfigurement and is able to reconstruct models robustly from variance input data.

  • On the basis of the energy approach it is reported a development of the yield function and the constitutive equations for the orthotropic material with consideration of the crystal lattice constants and parameters of the crystallographic texture for the general stress state. For practical use in sheet metal forming analysis it is considered different loading scenarios: plane stress and plane strain states. Using the proposed yield function, the influence of single ideal components on the shape of yield surface was analyzed. The six texture components investigated here were cube, Goss, copper, brass, S and rotated cube, as these components are typically observed in rolled sheets from FCC alloys.
