In 1980, 154kV OF cable was installed at the Cheong-Pyeong pumped-storage power station. Effective head of this pumped-storage station is 250m between upper and lower re-servior and length of cable route is 750m. However, several failures have happened owing to steep slope during the operation. 154 kV XLPE cable was applied for this power station to eliminate a lack of stability on account of steep slope and successfully installed in 1991. Meanwhile, installation procedure brings about many problem to be solved. In this paper, we describe the counter measure of cable sliding phenomena caused by heat shrinkage as well as the method of installation of cable under the steep slope condition. And hereafter, we think this paper will be a good reference to design and installation of 154kV XLPE cables in steep slope turnnel at urban areas.

For improving the power supply reliability and minimizing maintenance work of E.H.V. underground transmission line, new surveillance systems are strongly desired for use in the field of electric power transmission. For underground installation, high system reliability is required because E.H.V. cables, if an accident happen, can have a serious impact on social activities and human life. In answer to this requirement, applications of optical fiber transmission system have been widely developed in a variety of field. The main function of this system are cable fault location, oil leak detection, and surveillance of the cable circuit and tunnel condition.

We have designed the power supply of an 120W $CO_2$ Laser for non-metal material processings. High voltage is automatically controlled by means of thyristor triggered phase control. Pulse and C.W. mode are selectively generated by means of discharge current control. It is possible to interface this system with other Numerical Controller. Also, safety interlock circuit is incorporated in this system.

기존의 성형결합기는 광파가 자유전파영역에서 회절에 의해 전파되는 사실이 잘 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 손실을 줄이기 위하여 회절에 의한 광파의 전파가 아닌 W-테이퍼 도파로에 의한 광파의 전파를 하는 새로운 개념의 성형결합기를 제안하였고, 이를 광도파로열 격자 파장 필터에 적용시켜 여러 가지 특성을 조사하였다. 새로운 개념의 저 손실 성형결합기 및 이를 이용한 광도파로열 격자 파장 필터는 기존의 성혈결합기 및 광토파로열 격자 파장 필터와 같은 성능을 나타내면서도 손실이 작음을 확인하였다.

Hierarchical structure of star-forming regions is widespread and may be characteristic of all star formation. We studied the hierarchical structure of star-forming regions in the Local Group galaxies (M31, M33, Phoenix, Pegasus, Sextans A, Sextans B, WLM). The star-forming regions were selected from Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) far-UV imaging in various detection thresholds for investigating hierarchical structure. We examined the spatial distribution of the hot massive stars within star-forming regions from Hubble Space Telescope (HST) multi-band photometry. Small compact groups arranged within large complexes. The cumulative mass distribution follows a power law. The results allow us to understand the hierarchical structure of star formation and recent evolution of the Local Group galaxies.

We present a survey for finding hidden star clusters using the WISE data. There are more than two thousand star clusters in the current catalogs of star clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy. However, there are still numerous star clusters remaining to be discovered, especially, along the Milky Way. The WISE, NIR to MIR all sky survey, is an efficient source to find star clusters obscured by dust along the Milky Way. Taking the advantage of the power of WISE, we survey a wide area at ${\mid}l{\mid}<30^{\circ}$ and ${\mid}b{\mid}<6^{\circ}$, toward to the central region of the Milky Way to find new star clusters. To find cluster candidates, we used two kinds of method: the visual inspection and the brightness density investigation. We will report the progress of this survey.

In this paper, two large current rectifiers are proposed based on two wye-connected autotransformers. The requirements of the ideal large current rectifier are analyzed, and it is concluded that the large current rectifier has a higher power density and a higher energy conversion efficiency when it is made up of two three-phase half-wave rectifiers and a wye-connected autotransformer. According to theoretical analysis results, the two novel wye-connected autotransformers are designed to feed two three-phase half-wave rectifiers. The two autotransformers can generate two groups of three-phase voltages with a 60o phase shifting, and their kVA ratings account for 95% and 80% of the load power, respectively. These values are less than those of a double star rectifier at 30% and 46%. From the input mains and output side, the power quality of the proposed rectifiers is the same as that of the double star rectifier. Some experiments validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis.

Spectroscopic observations of barium star ${\zeta}$ Capricornus (HD204075) obtained at the 8.2 m telescope of the European Southern Observatory, with a spectral resolving power R = 80,000 and signal to noise ratio greater than 300, were used to refine the atmospheric parameters. We found new values for effective temperature ($T_{eff}=5,300{\pm}50K$), surface gravity ($log\;g=1.82{\pm}0.15$), micro-turbulent velocity ($v_{micro}=2.52{\pm}0.10km/s$), and iron abundance ($log\;N(Fe)=7.32{\pm}0.06$). Previously published abundances of chemical elements in the atmosphere of HD204075 were analyzed and no correlations of these abundances with the second ionization potentials of these elements were found. This excludes the possible influence of accretion of hydrogen and helium atoms from the interstellar or circumstellar environment to the atmosphere of this star. The accretion of nuclear processed matter from the evolved binary companion was primary cause of the abundance anomalies. The young age of HD204075 allows an estimation of the time-scale for the creation of the abundance anomalies arising from accretion of interstellar hydrogen and helium as is the case of stars with low magnetic fields; which we estimate should exceed $10^8$ years.

A flyback type power converter circuit for switched reluctance motor drives is presented. In this converter circuit, the energy extracted from an off going phase is stored in an additional capacitor. The energy stored is used to either be returned to the source frequently or energize the conducting phase during the conduction interval through the transformer. The additional switch to pass the energy stored in the capacitor to the source or the conducting phase is switched under a relatively low voltage condition. Its switching frequency is relatively high so that the size of the transformer can be reduced. The design guideline for the capacitor and the transformer is described. The effectiveness of the presented converter circuit is compared to other circuits through the analysis and experiment.

본 논문에서는 밀리미터파 응용에서 사용 가능한 우수한 성능의 MMIC (Millimeter-wave Monolithic Integrated Circuit) star 혼합기를 구현하였다. MMIC star 혼합기를 구현하기 위하여 PHEMT (pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor) 공정 기반의 소오스와 드레인 단자를 연결한 쇼트키 (Schottky) 다이오드를 사용하였다. 혼합기의 측정 결과 LO 주파수가 75 GHz이며 전력이 10 dBm 인 경우, 81 GHz에서 86 GHz의 RF 주파수 범위에서 평균 13 dB의 변환손실 특성을 얻었다. RF-LO 격리도 특성은 30 dB 이상의 결과를 얻었으며 약 4 dBm의 P1 dB 특성을 얻었다. 전체 칩의 크기는 0.8 mm ${\times}$ 0.8 mm이다.
