  • A digital switching network is proposed which is of Time - Space - Time architecture with a capacity of approximately 26,000 Erlangs. Large capacity time switchs, which have both concentration and time slot interchange(TSI) functions, are also implementated with relatively low speed devices by a newly proposed multi-write method.

  • To develop a safety-critical network in nuclear power plants that puts more stringent requirements than the competitive commercial ones do, we establish four design criteria - deterministic communication, explicit separation/isolation structure, reliability, verification & validation. According to those design criteria, the fundamental design elements are chosen as follows - a star topology, point-to-point physical link, connection-oriented link control and fixed allocation access control. After analyzing the design elements, we also build a communication architecture with TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) bus switching scheme. Finally, We develop a DDCNet (Deterministic Data Communication Network) based on the established architecture. The DDCNet is composed of 64 nodes and guarantees the transmission bandwidth of 10Mbps and the delay of 10 msec for each node. It turns out that the DDCNet satisfies the aforementioned design criteria and can be adequately utilized for our purpose.

  • We address the problem of designing a physical CATV network with switched-star topology in which the broadband interactive service is provided. There are two types of decision variables: One is where to place conduit paths, and the other is how many cable units to be installed on each link traversed by an established conduit path. Due to the serious drawback of the conventional approach partitioning the problem into two subproblems, the unified approach handled in one setting is used here to attack the whole problem without dividing into two ones. In this paper, we present a mathematical design model and propose an efficient solution method exploiting the nice structure of it. In addition to this physical design, some results on logical network configuration have also been made. Finally, computaional experiments are conducted to illustrate the efficiency of our design approach.

  • Many intelligent robots have to be given environmental information to perform tasks. In this paper an intelligent robot, that is, a cleaning robot used a sensor fusing method of two sensors: LRF and StarGazer, and then was able to obtain the information. Throughout wall following using laser displacement sensor, LRF, the working area is built during the robot turn one cycle around the area. After the process of wall following, a path planning which is able to execute the work effectively is established using flow network algorithm. This paper describes an algorithm for minimal turning complete coverage path planning for intelligent robots. This algorithm divides the whole working area by cellular decomposition, and then provides the path planning among the cells employing flow networks. It also provides specific path planning inside each cell guaranteeing the minimal turning of the robots. The proposed algorithm is applied to two different working areas, and verified that it is an optimal path planning method.

  • This paper implements a weather monitoring system based on wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network protocol proposed in this paper adopts a TDMA styled MAC. The protocol is designed to balance the energy consumption among sensor nodes. Other purposes of the protocol are to avoid the hidden terminal problem in 2-hop star topology, and to allow a CSMA styled communication in a given time slot to support emergent messages. Also, this paper develops the hardware of sensor node, gateway and electric generator based on solar and windy energy. The test results on the implemented system show that the time slot of each node is shifted in circular manner to balance the waiting time for transmission, and the reliability of wireless communication is over 99%.

  • This study investigates public receptivity to celebrity's climate change advocacy on YouTube through a semantic network analysis. The results of this study suggest that the YouTube video generated a number of viewers' responses. Celebrity endorsement not only leaded public voices on climate change issue, but also their opinions on the celebrity endorser. This study found that most of viewers were polarized in their judgment and attitude toward the celebrity advocate either positively or negatively. This study offers an exploratory examination of the perceived star power and the role of celebrities as spokespersons for social causes. This study contributes to the theoretical foundation of the role of celebrity advocacy using social media. In addition, this study offers methodological insights into how to detect public perceptions and attitudes toward celebrity endorsement of social causes by analyzing public comments.

  • The Ant Colony System (ACS) is a variant of Ant colony optimization algorithm which is well-known in Traveling Salesman Problem. This paper proposed a hybrid method based on genetic algorithm (GA) and ant colony system (ACS), called GACS, to solve traffic routing problem. In the GACS, we use genetic algorithm to optimize the ACS parameters that aims to attain the shortest trips and time through new functions to help the ants to update global and local pheromones. Our experiments are performed by the GACS framework which is developed from VANETsim with the ability of real map loading from open street map project, and updating traffic light in real-time. The obtained results show that our framework acquired higher performance than A-Star and classical ACS algorithms in terms of length of the best global tour and the time for trip.

  • The new era of multi-messenger astronomy (MMA) has arrived in 2017 with the detection of the binary neutron star merger in both gravitational wave (GW) and electromagnetic radiation (EM). Now, the new run of GW detectors are providing numerous GW events and the number GW events are expected to increase dramatically in future as the GW sensitivities improve. When the GW studies are combined with EM counterpart observations, a great synergy is expected in many areas of study such as the physical process following the compact object merger, the environment of such events (and galaxy evolution), and cosmology, Therefore, it has now become crucial to identify and characterize these GW events in optical/IR EM. In the past, we have been performing optical/NIR observation of GW events using a worldwide network of more than 10 telescopes, and are getting more actively involved in MMA of GW sources. In this talk, we will present our network of telescopes, the EM follow-up observation results of GW events including GW170817 and the O3 events in 2019, and the current issues in MMA. We will also give the future prospects of MMA, showing the forecast for the GW events and the outlook of EM MMA observations.

  • The elution behavior of polystyrenes(PS), polymethylmethacrylates (PMMA), polybutadienes(PB), PS-PMMA(SM) block copolymers and PS-PB star shaped copolymers on the cross-linked polystyrene gels was studied. An interpretation was proposed for the plots of log hydrodynamic volume versus retention volume of solutes in the mobile phases such as tetrahydrofuran, toluene, chloroform, methylene chloride and tetrahydrofuran-cyclohexane mixture. In order to predict the retention of solutes from their physical properties, multiple stepwise regression analysis was applied to obtain the correlation. The distribution coefficients($K_p$) of solute-gel interactions in GPC for homopolymers and PS copolymers were also obtained in terms of network-limited separation mechanism. In the cases of PS and PB, $K_p$ values approach unity, while $K_p$ values for PMMA decrease as MW increase in the good solvent, but in poor solvent, $K_p$ values increase as MW increase. $K_p$ values of PS copolymers are dependent on their MW and composition, therefore, morohology of SM block copolymer is predicted to be random phase. • This paper presents a spectrum sharing and allocation problem in multiple network operators(NOs). Most of previous works as to dynamic spectrum allocation(DSA) schemes have presented the DSA gain achieved by utilizing the time or regional variations in traffic demand between multi-network operators(NOs). In this paper, we introduce the functionalities required for the entities related with the spectrum sharing and allocation and propose a spectrum allocation algorithm while considering the long-term priority(or fairness) between NOs, the prioritybetween multiple class services, and the urgent bandwidth request. It was shown that the proposed algorithm with priorities between multiple class services could sustain better satisfaction ratio(SR) than the fixed allocation schemes or one without priority under different traffic patterns. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed DSA with priorities between multiple class services and network operators could provide the fairness between service classes of network operators and effective negotiation procedure for urgent bandwidth request by users.
