  • In this paper, we propose a new method to infiltrate $Fe_3O_4$-nanoparticles into a porous silicon film and a monitoring technique to detect packing density of nanoparticles within the film. Recently, research to use porous silicon as a drug carrier or a new functional sensor material by infiltrating $Fe_3O_4$-nanoparticles has been extensively performed. However, it is still necessary to enhance the packing density and to develop a monitoring technique to detect the packing density in real time. In this light, we forcibly injected a nanoparticle solution into a rugate-structured free-standing porous silicon (FPS) film by applying a pressure difference between the two sides of the film. We found that the packing density by the pressure-infiltration method proposed in this paper is enhanced, relative to that by the previous diffusion method. Moreover, a continuous shift in wavelength of the rugate reflectance peak measured from the film surface was observed while the nanoparticle solution was being injected. By exploiting this phenomenon, we could qualitatively monitor the packing density of $Fe_3O_4$-nanoparticles within the FPS film with the injection volume of the nanoparticle solution.

  • Productivity through reduced defects in plastic injection molding and reduced cycle times is a long-standing need in the injection industry. In particular, productivity is very urgent for the domestic injection industry, which is caught between the pursuit of latecomers such as China and technological gap with Germany and Japan which will not be narrowed down. Through 30 years of research and experience in the domestic injection industry, we have found that controlling the surface temperature of injection molds is the key of quality control. There have been various attempts to utilize advanced control techniques such as PID control, but the productivity against leading companies in Germany and Japan is still insufficient. Using Approximation Algorithm - "Knapsack" and "Minimum Makespan Scheduling", We want to show how to efficiently control objects with periodic repetitive data patterns that are difficult to solve with PID control. In addition, We want to propose that the control by Approximation Algorithm is effective enough to improve the productivity of the product by analyzing the data extracted from actual injection site.

  • To collect the basic ecological information about the microbial food webs in eutrophic water system with different residence time, the monthly variation of bacterioplankon (bacteria and small-sized cyanobacteria) and nanoplankton (phytoplankton and protists) were examined from December 2000 to September 2001. Kyungan stream is shorter in resident time (ca.5.4 d) than Seokchon reservoir (ca.72 d), even though they showed the same pattern in precipitation. With the basic environments, we examined the biomass (standing crops and its carbon content) of each plankton collected from the surface water. Large-sized planktons flourished in the time of low temperature, while small planktons were in the time of the high temperature period. Especially, in the Kyungan stream with much disturbance by rainfall and outflow, high diversity showed in term of species and cell morphology, compared to that of Seokchon lake. The time-lag relationship remarkably showed between phytoplankton and bacteria in Seokchon reservoir, and between protists and bacteria in Kyungan stream, respectively.

  • Environmental factors and changes in phytoplankton community structure before (August 5, 2017), during (August 18 and 25) and after (August 30 and September 15) freshwater input were analyzed to investigate the effects of freshwater input from Ganwol and Bunam lakes located in the upper part of Cheonsu Bay. Due to the large amount of freshwater input in the Cheonsu Bay, the surface salinity of the bay decreased by more than 8 psu, and the thermocline existing in the bay during August weakened. In addition, hypoxic phenomena occurred temporarily in the bay as the low oxygen water mass from the freshwater lakes flowed into the bay, and chemical oxygen demand, nutrients, and N/P increased with freshwater inflow. The density of phytoplankton during the freshwater inflow increased owing to their input from the freshwater lakes. Diatom species (Eucampia zodiacus) dominated the phytoplankton community in the bay before freshwater input; nanoflagellates, chlorophyta, cyanobacteria, and diatoms (Pseudonitzschia delicatissima, Chateocceros spp.) entered during freshwater input; and after freshwater inflow ended, diatoms (Chateocceros spp.) again became predominant indicating a return to previous conditions. The amount of phytoplankton standing crops increased sharply due to the inflow of freshwater species into the bay on the second day of discharge compared to before freshwater input; pre-discharge conditions were restored at most stations except at some sites close to the Bunam Lake three days after discharge. Therefore, the large amount of freshwater flowing into the bay affects not only the geochemical circulation in the bay but also the phytoplankton community structure. In particular, the high concentration of nutrients in the freshwater lake affect the marine ecosystem of the bay during August.

  • In whole spine radiography using the stitching technique, overlapping parts occur in the process of synthesizing the three segmented images, so some anatomical structures may be repeatedly exposed, and it has been thought that the dose increases as the scan range increases. However, in the whole spine radiography using the stitching technique in this study, under the condition that the stitching range is taken in the same three splits, the overlapping area decreases as the stitching range increases, so in the case of breasts included in the overlapping range, the dose value decreased by almost half as the stitching range increased from 90 cm to 105 cm. During spinal full-length radiological examination using the stitching method, an appropriately long stitching range could be set to reduce the exposure dose of the breast.

  • In this study, the effect of liquid height/volume on sonochemical oxidation reactions was investigated in 300 kHz sonoreactors. The gas mixture of Ar/O2 (50:50) was applied in two modes including saturation and sparging, and zero-order reaction (KI dosimetry) and first-order reaction (Bisphenol A (BPA) degradation) were used to quantitatively analyze sonochemical oxidation reactions. For the zero-order reaction, the highest sonochemical oxidation activity was obtained for the liquid height of 5𝛌, and the lowest height for both the gas saturation and sparging conditions. In addition, the sparging did not enhance the sonochemical oxidation activity for all height conditions except for 50𝛌, where very low activity was obtained. It was found that in sonochemiluminescence (SCL) images the sonochemical active zone was formed adjacent to the liquid surface for the gas sparging condition due to the formation of the standing wave field while the active zone was formed adjacent to the transducer at the bottom due to the blockage of ultrasound. For the first-order reaction, the highest activity was also obtained at 5𝛌 and the comparison based on the reactant mass was not appropriate because the concentration of the reactant (BPA) decreased significantly as the reaction time elapsed. Consequently, it was revealed that the determination of optimal liquid height (ultrasound irradiation distance) based on the wavelength of the applied ultrasound frequency was very important for the optimal design of sonoreactors in terms of reaction efficiency and reactor size.

  • Background: Shoulder external rotation exercises are commonly used to improve the stabilizing ability of the infraspinatus. However, during exercise, excessive activation of the posterior deltoid compared to the infraspinatus causes the humeral head to move anteriorly in an abnormal position. Many researchers have emphasized selective activation of the infraspinatus during shoulder external rotation exercise. Objects: This study aims to delineate the optimal exercise method for selective activation of infraspinatus by investigating the muscle activities of the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid according to the four shoulder exercise methods and two forearm positions. Methods: Thirty healthy individuals participated in this study. The participants were instructed to perform shoulder external rotation exercises following four exercise methods: sitting external rotation (SIER); standing external rotation at 90° abduction (STER); prone external rotation at 90° abduction (PRER); side-lying external rotation (SLER), and two forearm positions (neutral, supinated). The electromyography (EMG) signal amplitude was measured during each exercise. Surface EMG signals were recorded from the posterior deltoid, infraspinatus, and biceps brachii. Results: EMG results of the infraspinatus and posterior deltoid in PRER, were significantly higher than that of the other exercises (p < 0.01). The EMG ratio (infraspinatus/posterior deltoid) in SIER was significantly higher than that of the other exercises. EMG activation of the posterior deltoid in SIER, PRER, and SLER was significantly higher in neutral than in supinated (p < 0.01). Furthermore, the EMG of the infraspinatus in SIER was significantly higher in neutral than in supinated (p < 0.01). The EMG ratio (infraspinatus/ posterior deltoid) in SIER was significantly higher in neutral than in supinated (p < 0.05.) Contrarily EMG ratios in PRER and SLER were significantly higher in supinated than in neutral (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results show that clinicians should consider these exercise methods and forearm positions when planning shoulder external rotation exercises for optimal shoulder rehabilitation.

  • The overprediction of the number of satellite galaxies in the LCDM paradigm compared to that of the Milky Way (MW) and M31 (the "missing satellites" problem) has been a long-standing issue. Recently, a large host-to-host scatter of satellite populations has been recognized both from an observational perspective with a larger sample and from a theoretical perspective including baryons, and it is crucial to collect diverse and complete samples with a large survey coverage to investigate underlying factors contributing to the diversity. In this study, we discuss the diversity in terms of galaxy assembly history, using satellite populations of both observed systems and simulated systems from IllustrisTNG. In addition to previously studied satellite systems, we identify satellite candidates from 25deg2 of Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) Wide layer around NGC 4437, a spiral galaxy of about one-fourth of the MW mass, paired with a ~2 magnitude fainter dwarf spiral galaxy NGC 4592. Using the surface brightness fluctuations (SBF) method, we confirm five dwarf galaxies as members of the NGC 4437 group, resulting in a total of seven members. The group consists of two distinct subgroups, the NGC 4437 subgroup and the NGC 4592 subgroup, which resembles the relationship between the MW and M31. The number of satellites is larger than that of other observed and simulated galaxy groups in the same host stellar mass range. However, the discrepancy decreases if compared with galaxy groups with similar magnitude gaps (V12 ~ 2), defined as the V-band magnitude difference between the two brightest galaxies in the group. Using simulated galaxy groups in IllustrisTNG, we find that groups with smaller V12 have richer satellite systems, host more massive dark matter halos, and have assembled more recently. These results show that the host-to-host scatter of satellite populations can be attributed to the diversity in galaxy assembly history and be probed by V12 to some degree and that NGC 4437 group is likely a recently assembled galaxy group with a large halo mass compared to galaxy groups of similar luminosity.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of four weeks of gaze stabilization exercises and balance training on the static and dynamic balance functions. METHODS: The study was an assessor-blinded randomized controlled trial conducted at Daegu University in South Korea. Thirty subjects who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected and divided randomly into three groups containing ten each. The first group received balance exercises with gaze stabilizing exercises (BGG). The second group received a balance exercise (BEG), and the third group received gaze-stabilizing exercise (GEG). Each group exercised for 40 minutes, three times a week for four weeks. The subjects were asked to complete the following static balance test: 1) one-leg standing test, 2) sharpened Romberg test, dynamic balance test, 3) Y-balance test, and 4) single-leg stand-squat-stand test. The static and dynamic balance were measured before and after four weeks to determine the effect of exercise on balance. RESULTS: The static (OLS and SRT) and dynamic (YBT and SST) balance tests showed significant differences in the surface and length of the three groups (p < .05), and the y-balance score effect size, 11.477 (p < .05), was improved significantly. On the other hand, the change in BGG value was larger than those of BEG and GEG, and the improvements in balance control were the most significant. CONCLUSION: After four weeks of exercise, BGG showed the best improvement in static and dynamic balance, suggesting that this specific type of gaze stabilization exercise with balance exercise may benefit healthy young adults.
