  • Lately the National Technology Standard of IMT-2000 service in Korea was decided for both technology standards (cdma-2000, W-CDMA), and consequently the comprehensive countermeasures against the Technology Standards are all the more emphasized. Especially to private enterprises which were selected as service carriers for IMT-2000 service in Korea, making corresponding strategies in relation to both technology standards must be settled without delay. The Government also should serve the development of the I&T Industry through the various processes of adopting the policies and working out strategies In relation to Technology Standards of IMT-2000. Therefore in this paper, 1 would like to survey the features of both Technology Standards(cdma-2000, W-CDMA) and to propose the hereafter corresponding strategies in relation to IMT-2000 services.

  • This paper reviews the benefits of users participation in IMT-2000 standardization by the creation of users coalitions, focusing in particular on phased standards strategy necessary for the evolutionary approach from second generation to third generation systems. It first presents in detail the current status of IMT-2000 standardization progress occurring at each regional standard body including TIA of US, ETSI of Europe, TTA of Korea and ARIB of Japan. With this clear understanding of standardization situations worldwide, we may be able to come up with our standards strategies related to IPR issues and efficient standard-setting mechanism between manufacturers and service providers. In addition, this paper addresses the necessity for phased licensing of IMT-2000 service in order to avoid the high cost of new infrastructures and ensure an acceptable financial investment returns for existing cellular and PCS service providers. An author hopes that this paper can provide the adequate standardization directions of IMT-2000 to satisfy the varying regional and global market requirements.

  • Standards impact the economy in various ways. Moreover, intense competition exists between a variety of standards in this era of globalization. This paper quantifies the economic effect of multiple standards in the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) sector. Thus, it identifies and specifies which standard applies when economic gains exist. A model is developed which quantifies the magnitude of the economic effect of multiple standards as compared with a single standard or no standard. The model allows for both the micro- and macroeconomic gains from standardization to be quantified. Preliminary estimates indicate that at the macro level the multiple standards multiplier is approximately three. That is for every dollar invested, the gain is on the order of three dollars. Although not as robust. preliminary results indicated a similar economic gain at the micro level Overall, multiple standards dominate a single standard. This paper applies the model to IMT-2000, an example of multiple standards, to demonstrate this approach to quantify the standards economic effect.

  • This study aimed to analyze and collect research trends of archival management standards in Korea. For this purpose, keywords from the titles, author keywords, and abstracts of papers related to records management standards were statistically analyzed to investigate the major keywords with high-frequency. Network analysis with high frequency keywords was also conducted to identify the subject areas of research in archival management standards. The analysis period is from 2000 to the present, and a total of 212 papers were collected from domestic academic paper search sites such as RISS and ScienceON. As a result of the analysis, from 2000 to 2010, OAIS for archive design, digital record preservation with OAIS, and analysis on ISO standards were mainly conducted in research areas. From 2011 until now, records management certification and ISAD(G)'s conversion to RiC emerged as new research areas. This study will be expected to be basic data to understand research trends in records management standards in Korea and to be a reference for research on records management standards studies.
