Design and Verification of Automotive CAN Controller (차량용 CAN 제어기의 설계 및 검증)

  • CAN (controller area network) is a standard real-time serial communication protocol, and it was developed to control various in-vehicle electronic modules. In this paper, a CAN controller was designed in Verilog HDL, based on CAN ver. 2.0A and 2.0B. The designed CAN controller was implemented in FPGA, and it was verified its operation by connecting commercial chips. Its size is about 7,800 gates when synthesized in 0.18um technology.

Printed flexible OTFT backplane for electrophoretic displays

  • Printing technologies were applied to fabricate a flexible organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) backplane for electrophoretic displays (EPDs). Various printing processes were adopted to maximize the figures of each layer of OTFT: screen printing combined with reverse offset printing for the gate electrodes and scan bus lines with Ag ink, inkjet for the source/drain electrodes with glycerol-doped Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): Poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), inkjet for the semiconductor layer with Triisopropylsilylethynyl (TIPS)-pentacene, and screen printing for the pixel electrodes with Ag paste. A mobility of $0.44cm^2/V$ s was obtained, with an average standard deviation of 20%, from the 36 OTFTs taken from different backplane locations, which indicates high uniformity. An EPD laminated on an OTFT backplane with $190{\times}152$ pixels on an 8-in panel was successfully operated by displaying some patterns.

  • The flexible AC transmissions system (FACTS) is the underpinning concept upon which are based promising means to avoid effectively power flow bottlenecks and ways to extend the loadability of existing power transmission networks. This paper proposes a method by which the optimal locations of the FACTS to be installed in power system under cost function. The optimal solution of this type of problem requires large scale nonlinear optimisation techniques. We used Lagrange multipliers to solve a nonlinear equation with equality and ineaquality constraints. Case studies on the standard IEEE 14 bus system show that the method can be implemented successfully and that it is effective for determining the optimal location of the FACTS

  • Anti-lock Braking System(ABS) is a device which prevents the wheels form locked up under emergency braking of a vehicle. So it helps the vehicle to maintain the steerability and shortens the braking distance by maintaining optimal frictional force during braking since the tire road slip is controlled in acceptable range. Recently, ABS is accepted as a standard equipment in vehicles, especially in commercial vehicles(bus and trucks). Commercial vehicles don´t use hydraulic lines but use pneumatic lines for braking system mostly.   • Today's and tomorrow's processors and I/O devices are demanding much higher I/O bandwidth than PCI 2.3 or PCI-X can deliver and it is time to engineer a new generation of PCI to serve as a standard I/O bus for future generation platforms. According to this demand the PCI SIG proposed PCI Express. This paper describes about the design of PCI Express Behavioral Model. A Behavioral Model enables the designers to test whether the design specifications are met by performing computer simulations rather than experiments on the physical prototype. In the proposed Model, we can verify whether our design concept satisfies the PCI Express functional protocol.

  • The median barrier is one of the roadside hardware to prevent severe human and property damage from highway traffic accidents. The foreign standard of concrete median barrier was introduced and implemented without modification fitting to domestic vehicle and highway condition. In a car accident, median barrier doesn't protect vehicle effectively, especially for heavy vehicle such as bus and heavy truck. The purpose of this study is to develop the optimal performance design of concrete median barrier using the design of experiment with crash simulation analysis which is done by Pam-Crash that is one of the commercial crash simulation software. As a result of this study, an optimal design of concrete median barrier is obtained considering von Mises stress, volume and COG acceleration of truck.

The Bees Algorithm with Weighted Sum Using Memorized Zones for Multi-objective Problem

  • This paper presents the newly developed Pareto-based multi-objective Bees Algorithm with weighted sum technique for solving a power system multi-objective nonlinear optimization problem. Specifically, the Pareto-based Bees Algorithm with memorized zone has been developed to alleviate both difficulties from classical techniques and intelligent techniques for multi-objective problems (MOP) and successfully applied to an Environmental/Economic (electric power) dispatch (EED) problem. This multi-objective Bees Algorithm has been examined and applied to the standard IEEE 30-bus six-generator test system. Simulation results have been compared to those obtained using other approaches. The comparison shows the potential and effectiveness of the proposed Bees Algorithm for solving the multi-objective EED problem.

  • The aim of this research is to develop the Bees Algorithm named 'the dynamic allocated Bees Algorithm' for multi-objective problem, especially in order to be suit for Pareto optimality. In addition two new neighbourhood search methods have been developed to produce enhanced solutions for a multi-objective problem named 'random selection neighbourhood search' and 'weighted sum neighbourhood search' and they were compared with the basic neighbourhood search in the dynamic allocated Bees Algorithm. They were successfully applied to an Environmental/Economic (electric power) dispatch (EED) problem and simulation results presented for the standard IEEE 30-bus system and they were compared to those obtained using other approaches. The comparison shows the superiority of the proposed dynamic allocated Bees Algorithms and confirms its suitability for solving the multi-objective EED problem.

  • MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) is a communications standard of MAP (Manufacturing Automation Protocol), which is a Network Protocol for Industrial Automation. In the environment of Mini-MAP, MMS is situated in the application layer and on the LLC (Logical Link Control) layer. In this paper, MMS software is implemented on the basis of ISO DIS 9506. The implemented software was tested with Token Passing Bus Network Interface Unit, which was designed in our laboratory and performs the actions of layer 1 and 2.

  • Because of the rapid increasing of network user, there are some problems to tolerate the network overhead. Recently, the research and technology of the user-level for high performance and low latency than TCP/IP which relied upon the kernel for processing the messages. For example, there is an Infiniband technology. The Infiniband Trade Association (IBTA) has been proposed as an industry standard for both communication between processing node and I/O devices and for inter-processor communication. It replaces the traditional bus-based interconnect with a switch-based network for connecting processing node and I/O devices. Also Infiniband uses RDMA (Remote DMA) for low latency of CPU and OS to communicate between Remote nodes. In this paper, we develop the SRP (SCSI RDMA Protocol) which is Storage Access Protocol on Infiniband network. And will compare to FC (Fibre Channle) based I-SCSI (Internet SCSI) that it is used to access storage on Etherent Fabric.
