국내 시판 이유식류의 영양성분규격 설정 방안 (Study on the Establishment of Nutrient Requirements for Commercial Supplementary Foods for Infants and Young Children)

  • This study was conducted to evaluated the nutrition quality of the commercial supplementary foods for infants and young children and to seek a solution to the establishment of standards of nutrient requirements for supplementary foods in Korea. Information on food ingredients, nutrient contents, claims about usefulness of food components and instructions for feeding preparation were obtained from the labels of 33 commercial supplementary foods manufactured by 4 different domestic companies. According to the standard of supplementary foods for infants and young children described in the Korean Food Code, the commercial supplementary foods were categorized into two different types, weaning food and baby food. All the commercial weaning foods were in powder form and mainly composed of cereals, whereas all the baby foods were mainly composed of fruits in the form of canned juice. The weaning foods contained more nutrients than the baby foods did, and the nutrient levels of the weaning foods expressed as nutrient density on energy basis were higher than the RDA for infants aged 5 to 11 months, suggesting that the commercial weaning foods provide adequate amounts of nutrients. If one followed the instructions for feeding preparation appearing on the label, however, recommended amounts of intake of the weaning foods would provide too much energy as well as nutrients. There were many differences in nutrient standards of weaning foods between the Korean Food Code and Codex international food standard. In conclusion, the establishment of standards for nutrient requirements for the supplementary foods requires significant scientific studies on what nutrients are the most inadequate in Korean infants and young children feeds and what levels of nutrients should be added to the foods in order to supplement their nutrition. In addition, it is very important to have a strong scientific basis to support our standard when discrepancies exist between our standard and the international standard. 정상인의 Gastric Emptying Rate 측정 (Measurement of Normal Gastric Emptying Rate Using Chicken Liver Labeled with $^{99m}Tc-Colloid$)

  • Measurement of gastric emptying rate has been performed by a variety of techniques. Nuclear medicine method is a major advance in the quantitative evaluation of gastric function and also of pharmacologic intervention. Normal gastric emptying rate was measured in 48 healthy volunteers using live chicken liver labeled with $^{99m}Tc-Tin$ Colloid as a solid phase marker. In vitro studies were performed to evaluate the labeling efficiency and stability in hydrochloric acid and in human gastric juice of intracellularly labeled chicken liver. Anterior image counts only were compared with the geometric mean of anterior and posterior counts in 12 healthy volunteers who were studied by both anterior count and posterior count. The results were as follows: 1) The labeling efficiency in gastric juice and hydrochloric acid were $95.5{\pm}1.23%,\;95.7{\pm}1.15%$, respectively. 2) Half gastric emptying time by anterior count only was $126{\pm}21$ minutes 3) Although standard deviation of geometric mean method was smaller than anterior count method, gastric emptying curves from both method were similar. In daily practice, anterior count method may be useful alternative to geometric mean method in evaluation of gastric emptying rate.

소비자가 선호하는 영양표시 형태 - 대전 지역 주부를 중심으로 - (Consumer Preferred Formats of Nutrition Labels - Housewives of Daejon City -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate consumer preferred formats of nutrition labels: the type of nutritional information provided on the labels. A survey was conducted on 222 housewives between the age of 20 and 65 in Daejeon city in 1998, using an interview questionnaire showing illustrated nutritional label formats. Among twelve nutrients and caloric values listed on the nutrition labels, the housewives ranked their interest in the items in the following order of calorie (58.56%), calcium (56.76%), cholesterol (54.05%), protein (39.19%) and vitamin C (36.04%). The majority of the subjects (69.37%) checked labels when they bought milk or dairy products, whereas only 8.11% looked at labels when they bought Ramyon or noodles. Most of the subjects (90.99%) preferred products with labels with nutritional information as compared with products without labels. this was especially so true of the younger individuals and of pc-ople who checked food labels more frequently. The subjects preferred labeling which described the nutrient content per Package (55.41%), sewing size (32.88%) and food weight of 1009 (11.71%) as a standard nit. Generally, they prefer-red a simplified list to a detailed list of the number of nutrients, a figure graph to bar graph in nutrition claim, vertical bar graph to horizontal bar graph showing the nutritional content of foods and a web-type graphic format to a radiation-format when describing the item's percentage of the Korean RDA's nutrient content. The subjects who checked labels frequently especially preferred detailed list, while housewives with job or with unhealthy family members preferred a simplified list and graphic, rather than a numerical display. From this result, it is suggested that providing consumers with more nutrients information in a more easily understood graphic format would encourage the consumers to check nutritional labels. Therefore this should be considered when developing the regulations far nutrition labeling or when educating the Public about nutrition. (Korean J Community Nutrition 8(2) : 220∼230, 2003)

Cerebrospinal fluid flow in normal beagle dogs analyzed using magnetic resonance imaging

  • Background: Diseases related to cerebrospinal fluid flow, such as hydrocephalus, syringomyelia, and Chiari malformation, are often found in small dogs. Although studies in human medicine have revealed a correlation with cerebrospinal fluid flow in these diseases by magnetic resonance imaging, there is little information and no standard data for normal dogs. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to obtain cerebrospinal fluid flow velocity data from the cerebral aqueduct and subarachnoid space at the foramen magnum in healthy beagle dogs. Methods: Six healthy beagle dogs were used in this experimental study. The dogs underwent phase-contrast and time-spatial labeling inversion pulse magnetic resonance imaging. Flow rate variations in the cerebrospinal fluid were observed using sagittal time-spatial labeling inversion pulse images. The pattern and velocity of cerebrospinal fluid flow were assessed using phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging within the subarachnoid space at the foramen magnum level and the cerebral aqueduct. Results: In the ventral aspect of the subarachnoid space and cerebral aqueduct, the cerebrospinal fluid was characterized by a bidirectional flow throughout the cardiac cycle. The mean ± SD peak velocities through the ventral and dorsal aspects of the subarachnoid space and the cerebral aqueduct were 1.39 ± 0.13, 0.32 ± 0.12, and 0.76 ± 0.43 cm/s, respectively. Conclusions: Noninvasive visualization of cerebrospinal fluid flow movement with magnetic resonance imaging was feasible, and a reference dataset of cerebrospinal fluid flow peak velocities was obtained through the cervical subarachnoid space and cerebral aqueduct in healthy dogs.

식품영양표시에 대한 소비자 의식조사 -활용도, 인지도, 신뢰도, 만족도, 필요도를 중심으로- (Consumer's practicality, acknowledgement, trust, satisfaction, necessity degrees about food nutrition labeling system)

  • The study undertakes an examination of nutrition labelling system and offers a strategic framework for improvement of the system in Korean context. Thus this study includes a review of Korean current nutrition labelling system (NLS), development of a strategy or a further study for its revision of NLS, and a suggestion of revised nutrition labelling guidelines. Participants were 600 university students in Busan and were asked to fill in a questionnaire. The data collected were processed with the SPSS statistical program to produce its frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation with One-Way Anova and Duncan Test. The findings are as follows: the levels of consumer's practical use and awareness of NLS are low, the levels of their trust and satisfaction and their necessity for NLS are low too. Consequently, the consumer's attitudes to NLS are not related to nutrition labelling method(? system).

  • Computational techniques for topic classification can support qualitative research by automatically applying labels in preparation for qualitative analyses. This paper presents an evaluation of supervised learning techniques applied to one such use case, namely, that of labeling emotions, instructions and information in suicide notes. We train a collection of one-versus-all binary support vector machine classifiers, using cost-sensitive learning to deal with class imbalance. The features investigated range from a simple bag-of-words and n-grams over stems, to information drawn from syntactic dependency analysis and WordNet synonym sets. The experimental results are complemented by an analysis of systematic errors in both the output of our system and the gold-standard annotations.

농가형 농식품의 개발 및 품질 실태에 대한 연구 (A Study of the Development and Quality of Farm Food)

  • The objective of this study is to propose activation ways through an analysis on processing actual conditions and quality of farm food. For the analysis we have surveyed the actual condition of farms and conducted sensory test on farm food. Difficulties of farm business are in order to 'preparation of papers', 'facility standard', 'improvement of quality' and 'labeling'. Overall, products from major food companies achieved better results than farm foods in all sensory test. It is necessary to educate the 'Food Sanitation Act' and prepare a manual for the development of farm food.

한국어 대용량발화말뭉치의 단모음분석 (Monophthong Analysis on a Large-scale Speech Corpus of Read-Style Korean)

  • The paper describes methods of conducting vowel analysis from a large-scale corpus with the aids of forced alignment and optimal formant ceiling methods. 'Read Style Corpus of Standard Korean' is used for building the forced alignment system and a subset of the corpus for the processing and extraction of features for vowel analysis based on optimal formant ceiling. The results of the vowel analysis are reliable and comparable to the results obtained using traditional analytical methods. The findings indicate that the methods adopted for the analysis can be extended and be used for more fine-grained analysis without time-consuming manual labeling without losing accuracy and reliability.

에티오피아 에너지 효율 라벨링 도입방안 설계 (A plan for introduction of energy efficient labeling system in Ethiopia)

  • 전 세계적으로 에너지 수요의 증가에 따라 에너지를 효율적으로 이용해야 한다는 인식이 확산되고 있다. 에너지 절약과 환경보호를 위해 세계 각국에서는 에너지효율제품의 보급화를 위해 에너지 효율기준 및 라벨링 제도를 시행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 개발도상국인 에티오피아 선정하여 구체적인 사례를 적용하여 보았다. 효율적인 에너지 관리를 위한 제도로 최저소비효율기준(MEPS : Minimum Energy Performance Standard)과 에너지소비효율등급라벨표시(이하 '라벨링')에 대한 내용을 살펴보고 국내, 해외선진국, 개발도상국 등 여러 국가의 운영 현황을 조사하였다. 그리고 에티오피아에 적용하기 위해 여러 상황을 고려한 맞춤 라벨링을 설계해 보고자 한다.

Discriminative Training of Sequence Taggers via Local Feature Matching

  • Sequence tagging is the task of predicting frame-wise labels for a given input sequence and has important applications to diverse domains. Conventional methods such as maximum likelihood (ML) learning matches global features in empirical and model distributions, rather than local features, which directly translates into frame-wise prediction errors. Recent probabilistic sequence models such as conditional random fields (CRFs) have achieved great success in a variety of situations. In this paper, we introduce a novel discriminative CRF learning algorithm to minimize local feature mismatches. Unlike overall data fitting originating from global feature matching in ML learning, our approach reduces the total error over all frames in a sequence. We also provide an efficient gradient-based learning method via gradient forward-backward recursion, which requires the same computational complexity as ML learning. For several real-world sequence tagging problems, we empirically demonstrate that the proposed learning algorithm achieves significantly more accurate prediction performance than standard estimators.
