  • Nowadays, in islands where electricity should be provided autonomously, stand-alone microgrid technologies using renewable energy such as sunlight generation and wind power generation come into wide use. The microgrid electricity generation using renewable energy is greatly affected by the natural environment of a site. In order to maintain stable electricity supply for fluctuating electricity generation due to natural environment, the energy management via EMS is positively necessary. In existing stand-alone microgrid EMS, system operation logic is not changeable flexibly because compiled or builded codes are released into the EMS of a site, respectively. In this paper, we designed a flexible operating script-based microgrid EMS Framework for various sites and applied it to some island sites. We could confirm its usability.

  • This paper presents the method of ESS energy capacity calculation for stand-alone renewable energy generation system consisting of photovoltaic energy. There is almost no power from photovoltaic system during sunless days. So this source is very weak in terms of the power supply reliability. To improve problem of power supply, battery is mainly used Energy Storage System(ESS). The number of sunless days and Depth of Discharge(DOD) is important factor to determine energy capacity of battery. However, a many study for economical design is required due to the high cost of ESS. In this paper, we propose the new method of ESS energy capacity calculation by applying different DOD for operation with and without sun. We determine the Battery capacity using higher DOD of operation during sunless day than the DOD of the normal operation. And we carried out an economic analysis of the calculation results.

  • Recently, it has demanded to the wireless monitoring system in stand-alone PV power generation system. We propose the multiplex monitoring method using RF unit of low-price. RF unit consists of RF modem and communication controller. It is also able to use by repeater to communicate long distance. In this paper. two algorithms were programmed by CCS-C and C++ for multiplex monitoring method, The algorithm of choosing unit was used 'select and poll method' and the course assignment algorithm was embodied with 'Bellman-Ford algorithm'. The good result was achieved in the actual test without communication-data lose. The proposed method will be applied such as monitoring system of PV light on the wayside, monitoring system of unmanned lighthouse, monitoring system of refrigeration container on vessel and so on. It can be applied in the field that various ocean energy system.

Grid-Tied and Stand-Alone Operation of Distributed Generation Modules Aggregated by Cascaded Boost Converters

  • This paper presents the modeling, control and simulation of an interconnection system (ICS) of cascaded distributed generation (DG) modules for both grid-tied and stand-alone operations. The overall configuration of the interconnection system is given. The interconnection system consists of a cascaded DC/DC boost converters and a DC/AC inverter. Detailed modeling of the interconnection system incorporating a cascaded architecture has not been considered in previous research. In this paper, suitable control systems for the cascaded architecture of power electronic converters in an interconnection system have been studied and modeled in detail. A novel control system for DC/DC boost converters is presented based on a droop voltage controller. Also, a novel control strategy for DC/AC inverters based on the average large signal model to control the aggregated DG modules under both grid-tied and stand-alone modes is demonstrated. Simulation results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed control systems.

교류전압 보상 기능을 갖는 독립형 단상 연료전지 마이크로 소스 (Stand-Alone Type Single-Phase Fuel Cells Micro-Source with ac Voltage Compensation Capability)

  • This paper proposes a stand alone type single-phase fuel cells micro-source with a voltage sag compensator for compensating the ac output voltage variations (sag or swell) of micro-source. The proposed micro-source is consist of a PEM(polymer electrolyte membrane) fuel cells simulator, a full bridge de converter, a 60Hz PWM(pulse width modulation) VSI(voltage source inverter), and a voltage sag compensator. Voltage sag compensator is similar to the configuration of hybrid series active power filter, and it is directly connected to micro-source through the injection transformer. Compensation algorithm of a voltage sag compensator adopts a single phase p-q theory. Effectiveness of the proposed the system is verified by the PSIM(power electronics simulation tool) simulation in the steady state and transient state which the proposed system is able to simultaneously compensate the harmonic current and source voltage sag or swell.

An Effective Rotor Current Controller for Unbalanced Stand-Alone DFIG Systems in the Rotor Reference Frame

  • This paper presents an effective rotor current controller for variable-speed stand-alone doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) systems feeding an unbalanced three-phase load. The proposed current controller is developed based on proportional plus two resonant regulators, which are tuned at the positive and negative slip frequencies and implemented in the rotor reference frame without decomposing the positive and negative sequence components of the measured rotor current. In addition, the behavior of the proposed controller is examined in terms of control performance and stability with respect to rotor speed variations, i.e., slip frequency variations. Simulations and experimental results are shown to validate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed control method.

Seamless Transfer of Single-Phase Utility Interactive Inverters with a Synchronized Output Regulation Strategy

  • This study presents a strategy using the synchronized output regulation method (SOR) for controlling inverters operating in stand-alone and grid-connected modes. From the view point of networked dynamic systems, SOR involves nodes with outputs that are synchronized but also display a desirable wave shape. Under the SOR strategy, the inverter and grid are treated as two nodes that comprise a simple network. These two nodes work independently under the stand-alone mode. An intermediate mode, here is named the synchronization mode, is emphasized because the transition from the stand-alone mode to the grid-connected mode can be dealt as a standard SOR problem. In the grid-connected mode, the inverter operates in an independent way, in which the voltage reference changes for generalized synchronization where its output current satisfies the required power injection. Such a relatively independent design leads to a seamless transfer between operation modes. The closed-loop system is analyzed in the state space on the basis of the output regulation theory, which improves the robustness of the design. Simulations and experiments are performed to verify the proposed control strategy.

밧데리 개별 제어 방식에 의한 소규모 독립형 태양광 발전 시스템의 특성 개선 (The Improved Characteristics of the Stand-alone PV System by the Independent Battery Control Method)

  • 본 연구는 PV모듈, 밧데리, 충·방전시스템 등으로 구성된 태양광 가로등을 대상으로 소규모 독립형 태양광 발전 시스템(SPVS)을 연구하였다. 태양전지의 발전 효율을 증가시키고 밧데리를 효율적으로 사용할 수 있도록 하기 위해 병렬로 연결된 밧데리를 개별적으로 제어할 수 있는 시스템을 제안하였다. 제안된 시스템은 기존의 방식에 비해 밧데리 충전효율이 증가되고 충방전 횟수를 50%정도 감소시킬 수 있다. 또한 병렬 연결된 전지를 개별적으로 충전 혹은 방전 모드로 제어함으로서 일부 밧데리 고장시에도 일정기간 동안은 정상동작이 가능하고, 밧데리의 고장이 정상적인 밧데리로 전이되는 것을 예방할 수 있어 시스템 유지 보수비용을 줄일 수 있어 태양광 가로등에 적용할 경우 비용절감이 가능할 것으로 예상된다.

  • This paper deal with a necessary factors for design grid connected photovoltaic system with stand-alone operation, and show simulation results of individual functions and multi- operation according to utility condition. Generally, photovoltaic system have only one operation of either stand-alone or line interactive, and have a isolation transformer for electrical isolation from utility therefore it is bulky, weighty, and a high price system as compared with usefulness. In this paper, A topology and algorithm adequate for lightweight, high efficiency, low price, multi function is selected and inquired into the validity using simulation of variable conditions.

  • In this paper, a stand-alone wound rotor induction generator system is proposed and its steady state characteristics are analyzed. It is shown that the self-excitation of the system can be acheined by exciting the rotor through the PWM inverter. The analysis is based upon the eguivalent circuit and the steady state dq model of the mahine. The results show that the proposed system can be made to generate constant voltage constant frequency power for various speed and load conditions.
