In this study, STS316L powders prepared by gas atomization are used to manufacture bulk structures with dimensions of $10{\times}10{\times}10mm^3$ using selective laser melting (SLM). The microstructures and hardness of the fabricated 316L stainless steel has been investigated with the laser beam overlap varied from 10% to 70%. The microstructures of the fabricated STS316L samples show a decrease in the balling and satellite of powders introducing defect in the bulk samples and the porosity caused by the gap between the molten metal pools disappearing as the overlap ratio increases, whereas a low overlap ratio results in significant balling and a large amount of isolated powders due to the increased gap between the melt pools. Furthermore, the highest value in Vickers hardness is obtained for the sample fabricated by 30% overlapped laser beams. These results show that the overlap ratio of laser beams in the SLM process should be considered as an important process parameter.

In this study, porous stainless steel (STS316L) sintered body was fabricated by powder metallurgy method and its properties such as porosity, compressive yield strength, hardness, and permeability were evaluated. 67.5Fe-17Cr- 13Ni-2.5Mo (wt%) powder was produced by a water atomization. The atomized powder was classified into size with under $45{\mu}m$ and over $180{\mu}m$, and then they were compacted with various pressures and sintered at $1210^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a vacuum atmosphere. The porosities of sintered bodies could be obtained in range of 20~53% by controlling the compaction pressure. Compressive yield strength and hardness were achieved up to 268 MPa and 94 Shore D, respectively. Air permeability was obtained up to $79l/min{\cdot}cm^2$. As a result, mechanical properties and air permeability of the optimized porous body having a porosity of 25~40% were very superior to that of Al alloy.

In order to achieve high flexibility in manufacture, analysis of chip's shape is one of the most important problems. This paper describes the change of machining characteristics in workpiece materials depending on turning clearance angle. The experiments start from choosing three workpiece materials that are SM45C(machine structural carbon steel), STS303(stainless steel), SCM415 (chrome-molybdenum steel). Then, the experiments show specifically how features of selected materials changed when they were processed with diverse machining depths and with feed rate starting from fixed rotational speed. Especially, the experiments were also analyzed in chip's shape and wear of insert tip. In conclusion, these experiments show that chip's shape was changed by quality of the materials, depth of cut, and conveying speed. When machining feedrate and machining depth were 0.10mm/rev and 0.3mm respectively, workpiece materials showed the best shapes, not categorizing quality of the materials and machining characteristics.

Plasma Nitriding treatment was performed on STS 204Cu stainless steel samples at a temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ for 15 hours with varying $N_2$ content as 10%, 15% and 25%. Regardless of the content of $N_2$, S-Phase which is a hardened layer of Nitrogen (N) supersaturated phase, was formed in the surface of plasma treated samples. When $N_2$ content was 25%, the thickness of the hardened layer reached up to about $7{\mu}m$ and the surface hardness reached a value of $560Hv_{0.05}$, which is about 2.5 times higher than that of untreated sample (as received $220Hv_{0.05}$). From potentiodynamic polarization test, it was observed that compared to as received sample, the corrosion potential and the corrosion current density of the plasma treated samples were decreased regardless of the $N_2$ content, but the corrosion resistance was not increased much due to the precipitation of $Cr_2N$. On the other hand, pitting potential of the samples treated with 10% and 15% $N_2$ was higher than that of as received sample, however, the samples treated with 25% exhibited a lower pitting potential. Therefore, 10% $N_2$ content was selected as optimum plasma nitriding condition and to further increase both the thickness and surface hardness and the corrosion resistance of the hardened layer, different $CH_4$ content such as 1%, 3% and 5% was introduced into the plasma nitriding atmosphere. With 1% $CH_4$, the thickness of the hardened layer reached up to about $11{\mu}m$ and the surface hardness was measured as about $620Hv_{0.05}$, which is about 2.8 times that of as received sample. And the corrosion resistance of the plasma treated sample by using 1% $CH_4$ was improved significantly due to much higher pitting potential, and lower corrosion current density. When the $CH_4$ content was more than 1%, the thickness and surface hardness of the hardened layer decreased slightly and the corrosion resistance also decreased.

In this study, bipolar plates in fuel cells are formed using rubber forming process. The effects of important parameters in rubber forming such as hardness and thickness of rubber pad, speed and pressure of punch that compress blank, and physical property of materials on the channel depth were analyzed. In the soft material sheet Al1050, deeper channels are formed than in materials STS304 and Ti-G5. Formed channel depth was increased when hardness of rubber pad was lower, thickness of rubber pad was high, and speed and pressure of punch were high. It was found the deepest channel was achieved when forming process condition was set with punch speed and pressure at 30 mm/s and 55 MPa, respectively using rubber pad having hardness Shore A 20 and thickness 60 mm. The channel depths of bipolar plates formed with Al1050, STS304 and Ti-G5 under the above process condition were 0.453, 0.307, and 0.270 mm, respectively. There were no defects such as wrinkle, distortion, and crack found from formed bipolar plates.

Erosion due to abrasive particles contained in gas streams from boilers has been emerged as a significant problem in the coal fired power plants. Particle erosion accounted for approximately 50% of boiler failures and especially flyash erosion was responsible for 20~30% of emergency boiler shutdowns. Particularly, because of the high ash loading and high velocity, most erosion occurs in the boiler tubes and economiser tube bank where the direction of the gas stream changes to $180^{\circ}$ .In this study, a high temperature particle erosion tester was used to evaluate erosion rate in a simulated environment. The erosion parameters such as erosion temperature, particle impact angle, particle velocity and various particle size were changed. Flyash is the combustion product of the pulverized coal, where size is ranging from 1 to $200\mu\textrm{m}$. Flyash composed of mainly SiO$_2$, $A1_2$$_O3$, and $Fe_2$$O_3$has dense spherical particles and irregular particles containing numerous pores and cavities. From the erosion tests at various conditions, the maximum erosion was experienced at impact angles of $30^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$ In addition, erosion rate increased in proportional to velocity and temperature. And from the observation of the eroded surfaces, it was also concluded that 304 stainless steel was mainly eroded by extrusion-forging at high impact angle ($90^{\circ}$) and by microcutting mechanism at low impact angles ($30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$).

One of the important mechanical properties of cryogenic temperature structure material is fracture toughness. Research on normalization of fracture toughness test method is becoming very important issue with development of cryogenic structural elements. Specially, mechanical properties estimation by each micro-structure of welding department is important because it can cause unstable fracture when use under cryogenic environment in case of welding department. In this study, fracture toughness estimation test was carried out to unloading compliance method and sensitization heat-tread minimized test specimen at liquid nitrogen (77K), liquid helium (4K), 293K temperature to STS-316L base metal and weld metal.

Since stainless steel sheets have good mechanical properties, weldability, appearance and corrosion resistance, they are commonly used as one of the structural materials of the railroad cars or the commercial vehicles which are manufactured by the spat welding. Among the many kinds of spot welded lap joints, it can be found that multi-lap joints are employed in their body structure. But, fatigue strength of these joints is lower than that of base metal due to high stress concentration at the nugget edge of spot weld and is considerably influenced by welding conditions as well as the mechanical and geometrical factors. Thus, it is necessary to establish a reasonable and systematic design criterion for the long life design of the spot-welded body structures. In this paper, the stress distribution and deformation around the spot-welded multi-lap joints subjected to tensile shear load was numerically analyzed. Also, the $\Delta$P-Nf curve was obtained by fatigue tests. Using these results, $\Delta$P-Nf curves were rearranged in to the ${\Delta}{\sigma}$-Nf relation with the maximum stress at nugget edge of spot weld.
It comes up conversation in automobile industry that some technologies related to production and quality for goods have to be developed to make rationalization of the unit cost of production because material of car muffler is replaced by expensive stainless steel having corrosion-resistance and oxidation-resistance. Quality evaluation and control is direct method for the company producing welded goods in large quantities to increase productivity and to improve quality. It seems that prevention of inferior quality and increasement of productivity will be hard if production design does not have quality evaluation method related to weld assembly, They have been producing welded goods using MIG weld but still do not have not only quality evaluation method but also evaluation criterion for welded joint. In this study, the way for development of quality evaluation method is showed by analysis and calculation of waveform to improve technology related to welding process

In this study, austenitic 316L stainless steel was rolled at three different temperatures (100℃, -50℃, -196℃) at five rolling degree (0, 16, 33, 50, 66 and 80%). The rolled specimen was examined for micro structure, and the volume fraction and mechanical properties were evaluated. In particular, the rolling specimen detected the elastic wave generated in tensile and investigated the relationship between the rolling degree and the dominant frequency. As the rolling degree increased, austenite decreased and martensite increased. The volume fraction of martensite more increased at lower temperatures, but increased rapidly at the rolling degree of 50% of all rolling temperature. Tensile strength increased rapidly with the increase of the rolling degree, and was larger at lower temperatures. The elongation decreased sharply to the rolling degree of 33%, but decreased gently thereafter. The dominant frequency highly appeared as the volume fraction of martensite increased, but the dominant frequency was higher at the low temperature rolling temperature. A similar trend was also observed in the relationship between tensile strength and dominant frequency.
