Effects of Growth Characteristics on the Yield, Quality, Chemical Contents and Physical Properties in some Burley Tobacco Varieties (버어리종 담배 품종의 생육특성이 수량, 품종, 내용성분 및 물리성에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate tile effects of growth characteristics on the yield, price per Kg, chemical contents and physical properties in Burley tobacco, ten varieties including Burley 21 were tested in this study. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1 Forty to fifty days after transplanting, CCR (Crop Growth Rate) was the highest. RCR (Relative Growth Rate) increased up to 40 days, but decreased 50 days when maturation began. High- yielding varieties showed high CCR and RCR till 60 days. 2. Total alkaloid content of cured leaf increased about three times than that of topping stage, but the increased rates were some what different among varieties. 3. Leaf area, stalk diameter, stalk height and days to flower showed positive correlations to yield, whereas leaf thickness and weight per unit leaf area showed negative. 4 Varieties which are high in cured leaf weight ratio and weight per unit leaf thickeners showed relatively poor quality. 5 Nitrogen content was high in leafy and larger stalk diameter variety. 6. There are positive correlation between weight per unit leaf thickness and filling power. The time of combustion was positively correlated to leaf thickness and weight Per unit leaf. 7. It can be concluded that many characteristics are related to the yield, but not quality. It is, there fore, easy to Predict tile yield, but difficult to forecast the qualiffy.

  • A Kick Motor, KSLV-I second stage propulsion system, utilizes a flexible seal for pitch and yaw axis controls during combustion. A flexible seal consists of the alternate laminate of rubber and composite reinforcement between forward and aft rings. A Kick Motor nozzle is rotated by the shear deformation of rubber layers. Consequently, the development of rubber, which is appropriate to the usage condition of flexible seal, is very important. A tensile test, QLS test (shear modulus and failure shear stress), and aging test have been carried out to confirm the performance of rubber developed. Test results show that the shear modulus of rubber are 0.4310 ~ 0.4997MPa and the failure shear stress is more than 2.5MPa.

  • A water reforming reaction high-speed turning incinerator test facility was prepared. The reforming reaction chamber and the combustion chamber were directly connected. The incinerator and dust collecting device were integrated and made into a double bulkhead type air cooling structure. The blower is built into the dust collector to improve spatial efficiency. An axial flow type multi-stage dust collector was applied by collecting dust by using a plurality of dust collecting bins attached to the side of the dust collecting part. As a result of measuring dioxin among the exhausted gases, results below the standard value were obtained. As a result of measuring exhaust gas and heavy metals, results were obtained below the environmental standard.

  • In-cylinder spray flow motion plays an important in the adjustment of mixture preparation with a fundamental spray characteristics and in-cylinder flow field well in direct-injection gasoline engine. In this study, the fundamental spray characteristics such as mean drop size, velocity distribution, spray angle were measured and in-cylinder spray flow motion was visualized in order to optimize intake port, piston top land and combustion chamber shapes in the development stage of mass-produced G야 engine. For these experiments, the PDPA measurements and Mie scattering technique were used for detailed spray characteristics and in-cylinder spray motions were obtained by use of ICCD camera through the single-cylinder optical engine. From the experimental results, the test injector shows a good low-end linearity between the dynamic flow and fuel injection pulse width and the fuel spray of 20mm or less in SMD with good spray symmetry. In addition, the in-cylinder tumble flow has more effect on the homogeneous mixture formation than that of in-cylinder swirl flow at early injection mode and the in-cylinder swirl flow plays a better role of stratified mixture preparation than tumble flow at late injection mode.

  • In this study, the prediction method of coolant flow rates has been developed and applied to an engine and vehicle cooling system. The flow rate passing through each component of the system is very important parameter to evaluate the heat transfer process form the combustion gas to the coolant and the heat rejection process form the radiator /heater to the ambient air. However, the present study reveals that the measurement using the flowmeter fails to give practical flow rates due to its additive resistance. In contrast, the present method which uses the parallel and serial relationship of flow resistance proved to be a good tool to predict the real flow rates. It can be also used to design the cooling system in the incipient stage of engine/vehicle development . The procedure was coded to the computer program so as to use it flexibly and, in the future, to expand it into an independent design tool of the whole cooling system including the heat release and rejection.

  • A project where the TPUs(Turbo Pump Units) for 10tf-thrust oxygen/methane LRE (Liquid Rocket Engine) are under development is being implemented to include an experimental combustion chamber developed. In the process of it, we introduced the power-balanced engine cycles in order to substantiate concepts of the engine using the combinations of the propellants. Accordingly, the main engine parameters of nominal operating mode are resulted from the 1-Dcalculations and it is found that the regulators are needed for controlling the expected pressure levels in the characteristics of propellant mixture ratio and thrust supposing the regulator is set to analogue-typed one which is easy to develop.The technical requirements like the nominal flow rate, its deviations expected and the pressure difference In need helped the several main characteristics of regulators to be determine in this stage. Here, a dozen of deviation values in the main parameters related to engineoperation are taken into independent consideration and accepted to the results for additional regimes of the regulators.Finally, we can determine the scheme and the primary dimensions along with the calculation design of the spring acceptable for general configuration which can definitely forwarded to the autonomous tests of the aggregates, The obtained data in further will be used for successive refinement of operating mode of the engine.

  • Although the APU combustors were developed successfully, it could face many unexpected hardships in an engine or a system operating under the severe environments. But, it is not easy to change the combustion field or combustor structure at the engine/system development stage. So we must suggest practical ways to optimize the value quantitatively by engine test and flow analysis, and verify those by the cyclic test. This paper describes reverse-annular type combustor troubleshooting processes for verifying and settling of the problems and issues occurred in various engine and system operation tests by experiment and analysis.

  • Microalgae is considered as one of environmentally sustainable and potential feedstocks to produce biodiesels. However, recent studies on life cycle assessments (LCA) of microalgal buidiesels have shown that energy requirement is not small to produce biodiesel from microalgae, especially during cultivation stage. The costs for carbon sources, nutrients like nitrogen or phosphorous, and water for cultivation can contribute up to 80% of the total medium costs. In the present article, recent trends on the utilization of several promising nutrient sources such as municipal wastewaters, organic fertilizers, combustion exhaust emissions and organic solid wastes were reviewed, and the potential strategies to be used as substitutes of artificial culture media, especially for the biodiesel production, were discussed.

  • In this study, boiler tube thickness measurement and numerical analysis were conducted for standard 500MW coal-fired power plant in order to research the mechanism of tangential-fired boiler corrosion empirically. The most dominant corrosion mechanism of tangential-fired boiler waterwall was corrosion by sulfur contained in the unburned carbon. And the secondary mechanism was $H_2S$ gas corrosion at localized reducing atmosphere. It is required to decrease the air-stage combustion operation in order to mitigate the waterwall tube corrosion. Also stringent coal pulverization quality control and reinforcing work for corrosion susceptible area such as anti-corrosion coatings is required

An Investigation of Design Parameter and Atomization Mechanism for Air Shrouded Injectors

  • With increasing requirements for the less harmful exhaust emissions and the better fuel economy, the conventional injectors in gasoline engines can be replaced by the air shrouded injector in order to provide improved combustion in engine operations. To find out the optimal shape of air shrouded atomizer attached to the conventional injector nozzle, the critical design parameters such as droplet size, fuel and air inlet angles, and injection angles were investigated based on experimental analyses. To explain the characteristics of fuel atomization, these experimental approaches were carried out using a Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA) system. The droplet sizes of injected air fuel mixture were obtained by using the beam diffraction phenomenon. In order to improve the atomization effect, the various atomizers were investigated. The Saute. Mean Diameter (SMD) measured at the predetermined locations outside the atomizer represented the performance of fuel atomization. The experimental results show that the design factors and atomization mechanism needed for developing air shrouded injectors. The suggested design parameters in this paper can be a useful reference in the early design stage.
