In order to understand the formation of polymeric membranes or microcellular foams, phase separation phenomena in polymer solutions should be understood. The present review examines the progress made in the understanding of these phenomena, with emphasis on selected polymer-solvent systems. In the case of polymer-solvent systems, coarsening is of particular importance as it may come to dominate or overshadow spinodal decomposition effects within the first minute or few minutes of phase separation. In this article, some of the most important theoretical models of late stage of phase separation are reviewed, and recent experimental studies on coarsening in polymer-solvent systems are studied.

Small angle light scattering and field emission scanning electron microscope have been used to quantify the kinetics of liquid-liquid separation behavior during water vapor(RH52%[$\pm$3%] at 27$^{\circ}C$) quenching (non-solvent induced phase separation, NIPS) of polysulfone/NMP/Alcohol and CPVC/THF/Alcohol, respectively. Time dependence of the position of the light scattering maximum was observed at polysufone dope solutions, confirming spinodal secomposition (SD). while CPVC dope solutions showed a decreased scattered light intensity with a increased q-valuel, indicating nucleation & growth (NG). For the each system, domain growth rate in the intermediate and late stage of phase separation decreased with increasing the number of carbon of alcohol used as additive (non-solvent). Also, in the early stage for SD, the scattering intensity with time was in accordance with Cahns linear theory of spinodal decomposition,[1-3] regardless of types of non-solvent additive.
Phase behavior and spinodal phase separation kinetics in binary blends of a random copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and trifluoroethylene (75/25) [P(VDF/TrFE)] and poly(l,4-butylene adipate) (PBA) have been investigated by means of optical microscopic observation and time-resolved light scattering. The blends exhibited a typical lower critical solution temperature (LCST)∼${34}^{\circ}C$ above the melting temperature of the P(VDF/TrFE) crystals over the entire blend composition range. P(VDF/TrFE) and PBA were totally miscible in the temperature gap between the melting point of P(VDF/TrFE) and the LCST. Temperature jump experiments of the 3/7 P(VDF/TrFE)/PBA blend were carried out on a light-scattering apparatus from a single-phase melt state (${180}^{\circ}C$) to a two-phase region (205∼${215}^{\circ}C$). Since the late stage of spinodal decomposition (SD) is prevalent in the 3/7 blend, SD was analyzed using a power law scheme. Self-similarity was preserved well in the late stage of SD in the 3/7 blend.

In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm for the separation of fetal ECG from single channel abdominal ECG. The algorithm consists of a stage of demixing vector calculation for initial signal and a stage of fetal beat detection for the rest of signal. The demixing vector was obtained by applying independent component analysis technique to projected signals into time-frequency domain. For the test of this algorithm, simulation signals, De Lathauwer's data and some measured data, which was acquired from 8 healthy volunteers whose pregnant periods ranged from 22 weeks to 35 weeks and whose ages from 27 to 37, were used. For each data, the accuracy of fetal beat detection was $100\%$ and with the location of fetal beats, fetal heart rate variability and morphology could be offered. In conclusion, this proposed algorithm showed the possibility of fetal beat separation with a single channel abdominal ECG and it might be adopted to a fetal health monitoring system, by which a single channel abdominal ECG is acquired.

To separate and recover of VOCs, supporting membranes using PEI were prepared by phase separation method and it was coated with PDMS to prepare PEI-PDMS hollow composite membrane. To investigate characteristic of prepared membrane, pure gas permeability was measured using oxygen and nitrogen, the stage cut and permeance property with feed concentration were evaluated using xylene, ethyl benzene, toluene and cyclohexane. Also, to check solvent resistance on VOCs, stress-strain property of membrane with immersion time in solvent were measured by DMA. The permeance value of $O_2$ and $N_2$ showed 63 GPU and 30 GPU respectively. Permeated VOCs concentration was decreased with increasing stage cut. But, conversely, recovery efficiency that was increased with increasing stage cut. As a result of DMA test, the stress and strain were 11.93 MPa and 13.52%, respectively.
In this study, a hollow fiber support membrane was prepared by a non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method using a polysulfone (PSf). The prepared hollow fiber support membrane was coated with PDMS and Pebax to prepare a hollow fiber composite membrane. The prepared composite membrane was measured for permeance and selectivity for pure CO2, H2, O2 and N2. Gas separation performance of the module having the highest selectivity (CO2/H2) among the prepared composite membrane modules was measured according to the change in stage cut using simulated gas. The composition of the simulated gas used at this time was 70% CO2 and 30% H2. In the 1 stage experiment, it was possible to obtain values of about 60% of H2 concentration and 12% of H2 recovery. In order to overcome the low H2 concentration and recovery, 2 stage serial test was performed, and through this, it was possible to achieve 70% H2 concentration and 70% recovery. Through this, it was possible to derive a separation process configuration for CO2/H2 separation.

Experimental study was performed to investigate the flow behavior in boundary layer on the blade suction surface of a multi-stage axial flow compressor, which was focused on the third stage of the 4-stage Low Speed Research Compressor. Flow measurements in the boundary layer were obtained using a boundary layer hot wire probe, which was traversed normal to the blade suction surface at small increments by the probe traverse specially designed. Detailed boundary layer flow measurements covering most of the stator suction surface were taken and are described using time mean and ensemble averaged velocity profiles. Amplitude of the velocity fluctuation and turbulence intensity in the boundary layer flow are also discussed. At midspan, narrow but strong wake zone due to passing wake disturbances is generated in the boundary layer near the blade leading edge for the rotor blade passing period. Corner separation is observed at the tip region near the trailing edge, which causes to increase steeply the boundary layer thickness.
In this paper, prediction of separation trajectory for Two-stage-To-Orbit space launch vehicle has been numerically simulated by using an aerodynamic database based on steady state analysis. Aerodynamic database were obtained for matrix of longitudinal and vertical positions. The steady flow simulations around the launch vehicle have been made by using a 3-D RANS flow solver based on unstructured meshes. For this purpose, a vertex-centered finite-volume method was adopted to discretize inviscid and viscous fluxes. Roe's finite difference splitting was utilized to discretize the inviscid fluxes, and the viscous fluxes were computed based on central differencing. To validate this flow solver, calculations were made for the wind-tunnel experiment model of the LGBB TSTO vehicle configuration on steady state conditions. Aerodynamic database was constructed by using flow simulations based on test matrix from the wind-tunnel experiment. ANN(Artificial Neural Network) was applied to construct interpolation function among aerodynamic variables. Separation trajectory for TSTO launch vehicle was predicted from 6-DOF equation of motion based on the interpolated function. The result of present separation trajectory calculation was compared with the trajectory using experimental database. The predicted results for the separation trajectory shows fair agreement with reference[4] solution.
This paper describes a supersonic separation of air-launching rocket from the mother plane. Three dimensional Euler equations were numerically solved to analyze steady/unsteady state fluid flows. To solve the Euler equations, named CFD-FASTRAN that is commercial computation code. The results of simulation clearly demonstrate effect of shock-expansion wave interaction between the rocket and the mother plane. Moreover, important influential factors at separating stage of the rocket were extracted with a comprehensive analysis. Finally, from the consideration of supersonic-separation, a guideline to safety-separation is given to the design of supersonic air-launching rocket.

Porous membranes were prepared via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) of (ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) (EVOH)/glycerol mixtures. The liquid-liquid (L-L) phase boundaries are shifted to higher temperature when the ethylene contents in EVOH increase. Moreover, the kinetic study proved that the growth of droplets formed by the general liquid-liquid (L-L) phase separation obeyed a power-law scaling relationship in the later stage of spinodal decomposition (SD). A new phase separation mechanism was presented, in which the L-L phase separation could be resulted from the crystallization. The hollow fiber membranes were prepared. The membranes showed asymmetric structures with skin layer near the outer surface, the larger pores just below the skin layer and the smaller pores near the inner surface. The effect of ethylene content (EC) in EVOH, cooling water bath temperature and take-up speed on membrane performance was investigated.
