This study aims to deal with hospital staff's recognition on the opening of the medical services market, their attitude to the opening - agreement and disagreement, and their intention to use a foreign hospital or to consult its doctors again. It was conducted for 450 employees of one university hospital located in Gyeonggi Province, Korea with systemized questionnaires. The main results of this study are as follows: First, Medical technicians showed the highest level recognition on the opening of the medical services market. Second, The percentage of agreement to the opening was the highest for medical technicians and lowest for doctors while that of agreement was the highest for doctors and lowest for nurses. For residents, among doctors, the percentage of disagreement was the lower than that of agreement. Third, the intention to use a foreign hospital and to consult its doctor again was the lowest for medical engineers and the highest for doctors. Fourth, The most urgent task for local hospitals to accomplish in response to the opening was the improvement of the diagnosis and treatment technologies for nurses, and the improvement of the service provided by the hospital staff for the others. For doctors, in particular, the improvement of the diagnosis and treatment technologies was just the fourth urgent task. In conclusion, the result varies to the type of occupation. Apparent difference was found for doctors, in particular, that seem to be directly affected by the opening of medical services market. Local hospitals and doctors, therefore, should make efforts together to improve the diagnosis and treatment technologies. All the hospital employees of every type of occupation, meanwhile, need to prepare for the opening with medical service of improved quality.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the perception of medical staff to propose an infected patient transport robot as a means of responding to infectious diseases. Methods: The data collected through the survey was analyzed through AHP analysis. The measurement tools used in this study were derived through the SERVQUAL model and Focus Group Interview(FGI), and consisted of four detailed questions for each of five classes: tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. Results: As a result of the study, there are concerns about risk factors that may occur in areas where medical staff intervention is minimized. Above all, we confirmed the consensus that safety should be the top priority during the process of robots to transport patients. In particular, highlighted were the resolution of device errors that may occur during the process for transporting patients and easy provision of the first aid. Additionally, the ability to monitor patients and suppress infection factors turned out to be important, which was directly related to the simplification of the role of medical staff and work efficiency. Conclusion: As one of the means of effectively controlling infectious diseases in a pandemic situation, a robot to transport the infected patient was considered. However, in order to commercialize this, specific verification of the safety of medical staff and patients is needed, and empirical data on providing the first aid, patient monitoring, and infection factor suppression should be presented.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to suggest new direction for domiciliary care for elders provided by public institutions in rural areas. Method: The participants in the study were elders using one of 11 public health care institutions, of which 8 operated day care services exclusively, and 3 operated both day care and short-term respite care services. A survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire that included items on general characteristics of the service users, conditions of the services, personnel, financial status, facilities, and perception of the tasks of the staff. Result: The service content of the day care centers included Western and Chinese medical service, physical services, activities of ADL, nursing care services, meal services and transportation services. Domiciliary care centers provided a wide variety of health and social welfare service for elders. Personnel consisted of 3 to 8 staff for day care centers and 7 to 10 for domiciliary care centers. Both types of centers rely on financial support from local government for operation. The perception of the staff was the need for operation of these centers by public health facilities such as public health centers and sub-centers. Conclusion: The result suggest a need to activate the function of public institutions to provide domiciliary care for elders. For this new change, the role as a social support system must be developed.

Recently libraries are experiencing an increasing number of difficult patrons because of the increase in the unemployment rate and the problem of mental health in their communities. The problem behaviours of difficult patrons have negative influence to other users and staff in the library. This seems closely associated with the decline in the quality of library services. Therefore, in this study, we developed a how-to-do-it manual for library staff to meet the aforementioned challenges and to enhance the overall quality of library services for both general users and difficult patrons.
The major purpose of this study is to find out relevant factors affecting utilization of Long Term Care Hospitals since the Elderly Long Term Care Insurance System was adopted in Korea. The sample hospitals of this study are 5 long term care hospitals located in 4 big cities and 1 local area. The research data were collected with structured questionnaire from 247 patients and patients' protectors in 5 sample hospitals. Analyzing methods are descriptive statistics, factor analysis and multiple regression with SPSS(version 12.0). Major results of this study are as follows. 1) Utilization and recommendation of patients is affected significantly by the level of hospital facilities (0.043), fee level(0.026), level of staff (0.000), and discomfort of services(0.001). 2) Level of staff is very positively correlated with utilization and recommendation of patients. 3) Discomport of services is very negatively correlated with utilization and recommendation of patients. This article is a spinoff of a doctoral study that was completed at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) in 2018 on provision of information services to persons with visual and physical impairments in public university libraries in Kenya. The article examined how ICTs such as internet, e-resources and e-databases, word processing, websites and more were being used in public university libraries to provide access to information by visually and physically impaired persons. Data were collected from the visually and physically impaired students, University Librarians, Systems librarians, staff from disability departments and library staff who provided services to visually and physically impaired persons. The findings revealed that the visually and physically impaired persons in most of the libraries could not access information owing to lack of the necessary assistive and adaptive technologies and weak institutional support and framework. The study recommend that the libraries improve assistive technology infrastructure, embrace new assistive technologies such as telepresence robots, virtual realities and more, and put in place enabling policies and capacity building programmes for library staff to enable them to provide services to persons with impairments.
Background : This study is to identify the inappropriate hospital services for elderly inpatients over 65 years in general hospital with acute care functioning. Consequently elderly inpatient care and the management of long-term care facilities are key issues for current government health policy. Method : The survey was conducted for two months for all inpatients over 65 in 7 general hospitals, 6 work sampling days randomly selected. In each survey day, the subjective judgement by medical staff on the degree of acute care needs and by nursing unit manager on hospital services of each inpatients was also conducted. Result : The total number of cases collected are 2,541 elderly inpatients, according to subjective judgements by medical staff on inpatient condition. However 46.8% of cases are turned out to be non-acute care group. The frequency of medical services provided to non-acute group are 2~3 vital sign checks per day 78.2%, IV injection 40.1%, antibiotics medication 20.2%. Conclusion : Lots of elderly patients' who are staving in acute hospitals, at present need to be transferred to long-term care facilities. However, there was been shortage of long-term care facilities. It is expected to identify the need of elderly inpatients and therefore, to provide cost-effective, appropriate and good quality health services to elderly inpatients depending on their needs.
This study was carried out to grasp visiting nurses' perception of the service referral between health and welfare with a view to providing the basic data for the visiting nursing activities. A questionnaire survey was conducted on public health nurses in 25 health centers in Seoul from Feb. 12, 2001 to Mar. 15, 2001. A total of 151 questionnaires were collected and they were analysed by use of SPSS/WIN 7.5. The results of the survey are as follows. 1. In general, visiting nurses were burdened with heavy workloads. On average, a visiting nurse covered 5 ‘dong's(the smallest administrative unit), 564 households, and 1223 persons. They spent almost a quarter of their working hours moving from home to home and recording the charts after home visiting. They took 30-60 minutes to provide their services when visiting homes. As for the frequency of home visiting, they were following the instructions recommended by the government. However, their services were still wasteful, not skill-oriented, in that they spent more time assessing ‘subjects’ rather than providing their ‘services’ for them. 2. As for the degree of service performance, visiting nurses scored average 2.94 and 2.28 on the four-point scale in the area of health and welfare respectively. The Pearson coefficient between the two variables was high(.56). According as the health services increased, the welfare services increased as well, which showed that the service referral between the two areas should be essential. 3. ‘The necessity of cooperation with social welfare staff’ scored average 4.49, and ‘the degree of cooperation with social welfare staff’ scored average 3.16 on the five-point scale; There was a statistically significant difference (average 1.33) between the two variables. Such a big difference between perception and practice results from the lack of political support that connects the two service areas comprehensively. Therefore it is recommendable to establish a so-called ‘Visiting Nursing Center’ in the ‘dong’ office in order to provide integrated services of health and welfare at once in cooperation with social welfare staff. That's the way to meet the public needs directly and it's more efficient as well in terms of cost-saving.
