  • We propose a new visual tracking system for grasping which can find grasping points of an unknown polygonal object. We construct the system with the image prediction technique and Extended Kalman Filter algorithm. The Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) based on the SVD can improve the accuracy and processing time for the estimation of the nonlinear state variables. By using it, we can solve the numerical unstability problem that can occur in the visual tracking system based on Kalman filter. The image prediction algorithm can reduce the effect of noise and the image processing time. In the processing of a visual tracking, we can construct the parameterized family and can found the grasping points of unknown object through the geometric properties of the parameterized family.

  • In this paper, we performed the study on the operation characteristics of tele-grasping using the developed experimental system. The experimental system consists of master and slave gripper. and signal processing system. For the stable grasping of an object, this system feedback the normal force obtained from the straingage of the slave gripper to magnetic particle brake of the master gripper through the signal processing system. This experimental system can control the grasping force in remote using the force feedback device. Some experimental results of the-tele-grasping are presented and discussed

  • An adaptive robot hand (AR-Hand) has a stable grasp of different objects in unstructured environments. In this study, we propose an AR-Hand based on a tendon-driven mechanism which consists of 4 fingers and 12 DOFs. It weighs 0.5 kg and can grasp an object up to 1 kg. This hand based on the adaptive grasp mechanism is able to provide a stable grasp without a complex control algorithm or sensor system. The fingers are driven by simple tendon structures with each finger capable of adaptively grasping the objects. This paper presents a method to decide the joint stiffness. The adaptive grasping is verified by various grasping experiments involving objects with different shapes and sizes.

  • This paper attempts to derive and analyze the dynamic system of pinching a rigid object by means of two multi-degrees-of-freedom robot fingers with soft and deformable tips. It is shown firstly that a set of differential equation describing dynamics system of the manipulators and object together with geometric constraint of tight area-contacts is formulated by Lagrange's equation. It is shown secondly that the problems of controlling both the forces of pressing object and the rotation angle of the object under the geometric constraints are discussed. In this paper, the control method for dynamic stable grasping and enhancing dexterity in manipulating things is proposed. It is illustrated by computer simulation that the control system gives the performance improvement in the dynamic stable grasping of the dual fingers robot with soft tips.

  • This paper discusses haptic display for grasping a virtual object by two fingers. Much research has been done on fundamental analysis for stability of haptic display. But it is difficult to apply the results immediately to grasping situations by two fingers, since the studies usually deal with a single device and a single object and the fingertip force in grasping situations has two components, internal and external components. The conventional methods, which specify the coupling impedance at each contact point separately, have no other alternative but to specify the impedance for the sum of the internal and external components. So even if only the impedance for the external force should be changed, the impedance for the internal force is also changed at the same time. In this paper, a new method, in which the coupling impedance is specified separately for the internal and external forces, is proposed and the stability of the proposed method is discussed using passivity analysis for 1 -DOF(Degree-Of-Freedom) system. Finally, some experiments are performed to study the effects of the proposed method.

  • This paper is a study on the fuzzy force control of a miniature gripper driven by piezoelectric bimorph actuator. The system is composed of two flexible cantilevers, a stepping motor, a laser displacement transducer and two semiconductor force sensors attached to the beams. Obtained results show that the present artificial finger system works well as a miniature gripper, which produces approximately 0.06N force in the maximum. Further, the fuzzy position/force control algorithm is applied to the soft-handing gripper for stable grasping of a object. It revealed that the fuzzy rule-based controller be efficient controller for the stable drive of the flexible miniature gripper. It also showed that two semiconductor strain gauges located in the flexible beam play an important roles for force control, position control and vibration suppression control.

  • This paper aims to derive a mathematical model of the dynamics of handling tasks in field robot which stable grasping and manipulates a rigid object with some dexterity. Firstly, a set of differential equation describing dynamics of the manipulators and object together with geometric constraint of tight area-contacts is formulated by Lagrange equation. Secondly, problems of controlling both the internal force and the rotation angle of the grasped object under the constraints of area-contacts of tight area-contacts are discussed. The effect of geometric constraints of area-contacts on motion of the overall system is analyzed and a method of computer simulation for overall system of differential-algebraic equations is presented. Thirdly, simulation results are shown and the effects of geometric constraints of area-contact is discussed.

  • This paper deals with the problem of synthesis of stable and optimal grasps with unknown objects by 3-finger hand. Previous robot grasp research has analyzed mainly with either unknown objects 2D by vision sensor or unknown objects, cylindrical or hexahedral objects, 3D. Extending the previous work, in this paper we propose an algorithm to analyze grasp of unknown objects 3D by vision sensor. This is archived by two steps. The first step is to make a 3D geometrical model of unknown objects by stereo matching which is a kind of 3D computer vision technique. The second step is to find the optimal grasping points. In this step, we choose the 3-finger hand because it has the characteristic of multi-finger hand and is easy to modeling. To find the optimal grasping points, genetic algorithm is used and objective function minimizing admissible farce of finger tip applied to the object is formulated. The algorithm is verified by computer simulation by which an optimal grasping points of known objects with different angles are checked.
