  • In this paper, we propose a robust and fast digital image stabilization algorithm based on edge detection. The proposed algorithm exploits sobel operator to obtain edge image and fast detects irregular conditions with analyzing an edge information of the image. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can gain better performance in the sense of speed and precision comparing with full-block search method.

  • The robust stability condition for sampled-data control systems with a sector nonlinearity was presented in our previous paper. Although it is applicable only to the sampled-data control system of a certain class, a usual discretetime control system can belongs to this type of class. This paper analyzes the amplitude dependent behavior of nonlinear sampled-data (i.e., discrete-time) control systems in a frequency domain. By considering restricted areas (sectors) in the nonlinear characterisitic, the existence of a sustained oscillation is estimated, and the relationship between the stable/unstable conditions and the result derived from describing function is compared. Based on these considerations, the stabilization of nonlinear discrete-time control systems is examined in the frequency domain.

  • This paper presents a new fuzzy model-based design approach for waypoints-tracking control of nonlinear underwater vehicles (UUVs) on a horizontal plane. The waypoints-tracking control problem is converted into the stabilization one for the error model between the given nonlinear UUV and the waypoints. By using the sector nonlinearity, the error model is modeled in Takagi-Sugeno's form. We then derive stabilization conditions for the error model in the format of linear matrix inequality. A numerical simulation is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • In this paper, a robust nonlinear excitation controller is proposed to achieve both voltage regulation and system stability enhancement for single machine-infinite power systems. The proposed method employs backstepping technique and combines this with an adaptation algorithm for estimating the effective reactance of transmission line, thereby leading to adaptive nonlinear control. Simulation results show that power that angle stabilization as well as voltage regulation is achieved in a satisfactory manner, regardless of the system operating conditions and system structure.

  • Hog manure amended with sawdust (moisture 56~60% wet basis, C/N 19-21) was composted in pilot-scale vessels using continuous aeration(CA) and intermittent aeration(IA) for 3 and 4 weeks. In two subsequent runs of the same duration, composts resulting from each of the first runs were used as a biofilter on the exhaust gas from newly composting material. Conditions between each of these paired sets appeared to be similar. Ammonia was released from the biofilter material during the first week of stabilization while the compost produced ammonia after the first week of composting. In both cases substantial absorption, 61~96 %, of ammonia production from the composting raw material was achieved in the stabilizing material during the final weeks of operation and indicates the use of the stabilizing hog manure/sawdust compost as a biofilter can reduce ammonia emissions. Total $NH_3-N$ emissions during run 2 in IA was less than 2/3 of those in CA. Dry solids loss for the stabilized compost (6~8 weeks) was 19~46%.

  • This paper deals with the unknown input observer (UIO) design problem for a class of linear time-delay systems. A case in which the observer error can completely be decoupled from an unknown input is treated. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existences of such observers are present. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, thedesign of the observer with internal delay is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMI). The design of the observer without internal delay is turned into a stabilization problem in linear systems. Two design algorithms of UIO are proposed. The effect of the proposed approach is illustrated by two numerical examples.

  • Design of a GA-based SPS controller for Power system stabilization has been investigated in this paper. The design problem of SPS controller is formulated as an optimization problem using GA. The dynamic characteristic responses are considered to verify performance of the proposed SPS under various disturbance for various operation conditions. The simulation results show that the proposed SPS controller provides most of the damping and improves greatly the voltage profile of the system under two different disturbances.

  • This paper deals with the depth and speed controls of a class of nonlinear large diameter unmanned underwater vehicles (LDUUVs), while maintaining its attitude. The concerned control problem can be viewed as an asymptotic stabilization of the error model in terms of its desired depth, surge speed and attitude. To tackle its nonlinearities, the linear parameter varying (LPV) model is employed. Sufficient linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions are provided for its asymptotic stabilization. A numerical simulation is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design methodology.

  • Lignin can be a valuable natural chemical resource. Structurally, lignin is a three-dimensional polymer made up of condensed C-C bonds and some ether linkages, most of which are not readily degraded. In this study, lignin carbonization under various electron beam pretreatment conditions was characterized through a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. Lignin stabilization was controlled by various doses of electron beam irradiation corresponding to 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 kGy; the carbonization process was performed under a nitrogen gas atmosphere at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The TGA results showed that a 1,000 kGy lignin dose increased the residue weight from 39.96% to 45.23%, compared to non-irradiated lignin. This observation is in agreement with the XRD and Raman spectroscopy results, in which the two theta degrees and the degree of crystallization were improved by increasing the electron beam irradiation.

  • In order to examine the chemical stabilization through DCG curing of cement paste exposed to high temperature environment, we produced a sample of 40% W/C cement paste and heated it for 180 minutes under the heating temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. The DCG curing time was 6, Three time conditions were divided into 12 and 18 hours. As a result of XRD analysis, Calcite ($CaCO_3$) was found in Theta 29.4, 40, and 46.5o. As the curing time increased, the peak of Calcite also increased, which is due to the increased reaction time with DCG. Therefore, Calcite produced through DCG curing seems to have stabilized chemically by filling the pores generated by heating.
