Improvement of Long-term Stability in $SnO_2$ Based Gas Sensor for Monitoring Offensive Odor

  • WO$_3$/SnO$_2$ceramics has been suggested as an effective sensing material for monitoring offensive odor or pollutant gases. This work was focussed on improving long-term stability, which has been a principal problem generally taking place in SnO$_2$semiconductor gas sensor. Miniaturized thick film gas sensors were fabricated by screen printing technique. Two types of sensor materials, W doped SnO$_2$and WO$_3$mixed SnO$_2$, were comparatively investigated on those long-term stability and sensitivites to several gases. Small amount of W doping(0.1 mol%) into SnO$_2$largely improved the long-term stability. The W(0.1 mol%) doped SnO$_2$gas sensor had higher sensitivities to both acetone and alcohol compared with WO$_3$(5 wt%) mixed SnO$_2$gas sensor. On the contrary, WO$_3$(5 wt%) mixed SnO$_2$gas sensor showed more superior sensitivity to cigarette smoke due to larger W content.

  • The electrical properties and stability of ZPCCY-based varistors composing of $ZnO-Pr_{6}O_{11}-CoO-Cr_{2}O_{3}-Y_{2}O_{3}$ ceramics were investigated with sintering time. As sintering time is increased, the nonlinear exponent decreased in the range of 51.19~26.70. Among varistors having above 30 in nonlinear exponent, for the varistor sintered for 1h, the nonlinearity was superior to the stability comparatively and, in the case of 2h, the stability was superior to the nonlinearity relatively. Consequently, it is estimated that the varistors sintered for 1~2h will be applied to various fields by trade-off between nonlinearity and stability.

  • The stability of ZnO-Pr$_{6}$/O$_{11}$-CoO-Er$_{2}$/O$_3$based varistors was investigated with Er$_{2}$/O$_3$additive content of the range 0.0 to 2.0 mol%. All varistors sintered at 130$0^{\circ}C$ exhibited the thermal runaway within short times even under weak d.c. stress. As a result these varistors were completely degraded. On the contrary the stability of varistors sintered at 135$0^{\circ}C$ was far better than that of 130$0^{\circ}C$. In particular the varistors added with 0.5mol% Er$_{2}$/O$_3$ which the nonlinear exponent is 34.83 and the leakage current is 7.38 $mutextrm{A}$ showed a excellent stability which the variation rate of the varistors voltage the nonlinear coefficient and the leakage current is below 1%, 2%, and 3.5% respectively even under more severe d.c. stress such as (0.80 V$_{1mA}$9$0^{\circ}C$/12h)+(0.85 V$_{1mA}$115$^{\circ}C$/12h)+(0.90 V$_{1mA}$12$0^{\circ}C$12h) Consequently it is estimated that the ZnO-0.5 mol% Pr$_{6}$/O sub 11/-1.0 mol% CoO-0.5 mol% Er$_{2}$/O sub 3/ based varistors will be used to develop the advanced Pr$_{6}$/O$_{11}$-1.0 mol% CoO-0.5 mol% Er$_{2}$/O$_{3}$ based varistors will be used to develop the advanced Pr$_{6}$/O$_{11}$-based ZnO varistors having the high performance and stability in future. future.ure. future.

  • The electrical properties and stability of ZPCE varistors consisted of $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Er_2O_3$ ceramics were investigated. $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Er_2O_3$ based ceramics were sintered at $1300^{\circ}C$ and $1350^{\circ}C$, respectively, without and with 0.5 mol% $Er_2O_3$. The varistors sintered at $1300^{\circ}C$ exhibited a better nonlinearity than that $1350^{\circ}C$. The varistors with $Er_2O_3$ of 0.5 mol% exhibited a high nonlinear exponent of 52.8. However, they easily degraded due to the low density below 85% of TD. On the other hand, the varistors sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ without $Er_2O_3$ exhibited an extremely poor nonlinearity, but the varistors with $Er_2O_3$ of 0.5 mol% exhibited a relatively good nonlinearity, which the nonlinear exponent is 34.8 and the leakage current is $7.4\;{\mu}A$ Morever, they exhibited a very high stability, which the variation rate of varistor voltage, nonlinear exponent, and leakage current are -0.9%, -2.9%, and +2.7%, respectively, under the third stress $(0.80 V_{1mA}/90^{\circ}C/12h)$ + $(0.85 V_{1mA}/115^{\circ}C/12h)$ + $(0.90 V_{1mA}/120^{\circ}C/12h)$. Consequently, it was estimated that $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Er_2O_3$ ceramics will be usefully applied to develop the advanced $Pr_6O_{11}$-based ZnO varistors.

Underwater Stability of Surface Chemically Modified Superhydrophobic W18O49 Nanowire Arrays

  • Superhydrophobic W18O49 nanowire (NW) arrays were synthesizedusing a thermal evaporation and surface chemistry modification methods by self-assembled monolayer (SAM). As-prepared non-wetting W18O49 NWs surface shows water contact angle of $163.2^{\circ}$ and has reliable stability in underwater conditions. Hence the superhydrophobic W18O49 NWs surface exhibits silvery surface by total reflection of water layer and air interlayer. The stability analysus of underwater superhydrophobicity of W18O49 NWs arrays was conducted by changing hydrostatic pressure and surface energy of W18O49 NWs arrays. The stability of superhydrophobicity in underwater conditions decreased exponentially as hydrostatic pressure applied to the substrates increased3. In addition, as surface energy decreased, the underwater stability of superhydrophobic surface increased sharply. Specifically, sueprhydrophobic stability increased exponentially as surface energy of W18O49 NWs arrays was decreased. Based on these results, the models for explaining tendencies of superhydrophobic stability underwater resulting from hydrostatic pressure and surface energy were designed. The combination of fugacity and Laplace pressure explained this exponential decay of stability according to hydrostatic pressure and surface energy. This study on fabrication and modeling of underwater stability of superhydrophobic W18O49 NW arrays will help in designing highly stable superhydrophobic surfaces and broadening fields of superhydrophobic applications even submerged underwater.

$Y-Nb-TZP/Al_2O_3$ 복합체의 저온 상안정성 및 기계적 특성 (Low-temperature phase stability and mechanical properties of $Y-Nb-TZP/Al_2O_3$ compoites)

  • $Y_2O_3$$Nb_2O_5$가 첨가된 지르코니아에 입자 크기가 다른 두종류의 Al2O3를 부피비로 10~30% 첨가한 복합체를 155$0^{\circ}C$ 온도에서 5시간 소결하여 $250^{\circ}C$ 온도의 공기 분위기하에서 1000시간 혹은 $180^{\circ}C$ 온도의 0.3MPa H2O vapor pressure 분위기하에서 5시간 열처리를 하여 X-ray 회절분석 방법을 이용하여 저온 상안정성을 조사하였다. 복합체 전부 열처리 후에 정방정 상에서 단사정 상으로 상전이가 발생하지 않는 우수한 저온 상안정성이 관찰되었다. 복합체의 상아정성에 Nb 첨가가 $Al_2O_3$의 첨가보다 더 효과적이었다. 2.8$\mu$m 입자크기를 가진 Al2O3를 부피비로 20% 첨가한 복합체에서 최적의 조건이 관찰되었으며 강도와 인성값은 각각 670MPa와 7.1MPam1/2이었다. Al2O3 입자 크기가 2.8$\mu$m에서 0.2$\mu$m로 감소함에 따라 강도는 다소 증가하였으나 파괴인성값은 감소하였다.

겔화에 의한 Water-in-Oil에멀젼의 안정성;이산화티타늄($TiO_{2}$)이 함유된 Sun-block Cream의 응용 (Stability of Water-in-Oil Emulsion by Gelation;Application of Sun-Block Cream containing Titanium Dioxide($TiO_{2}$))

  • Cosmetic industries have recently developed sun-block products, which are composed of W/O or O/W emulsion system. It was very difficult for waterproofing product to show the stability in W/O emulsion with $TiO_{2}$. To enhance the stability of W/O emulsion, it needs to be combined with the water and oil soluble components as the gelling agents. The emulsifiers used in W/O were 3.0% of cetyl dimethicone copolyol, 2.0% of sorbitan sesquioleate as the basic emulsifiers, and 0.6% of quaternium-18 bentonite and 1.5% of dextrin palmitate as stabilizer were used. The content of titanium dioxide was optimized up to 8.0%. Titanium dioxide was used as the UV scattering powder coated with $Al_{2}O_{3}$(UV-sperse T40/TN). The sunscreen cream prepared with W/O emulsion system by using QB and DP showed higher stability than that of W/O emulsion system by using each QB and DP. W/O emulsion from Formula 3 for passing one year was very durable more than F1 and F2. Within W/O emulsion by observing F1, F2 and F3 for one year, F3 was more excellent than F2 and F3 when they were observed at RT, $4^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, because F3 used the mixed QB and DP in W/O emulsion. The zeta potential for F1, F2, and F3 after one year were 21, 30 and 43, respectively. From these result F3 was found best stable emulsion. The in-vitro SPF value for F3 was 35 for the initial product at room temperature and also, the in-vitro SPF values of F3 was 32 for after one year. Finally, the mean in-vivo SPF value of 10 volunteers for F3 was 27.3 by the Korea cosmetic association made the rules of SPF.

  • The varistor properties and DC accelerated aging characteristics of $ZnO-Pr_{6}O_{11}-CoO-Cr_{2}O_{3}$-based varistors were investigated at different $La_{2}O_3$ contents in the range of $0{\sim}2.0mol%$. The varistors doped with 0.5 mol% $La_{2}O_3$ exhibited good nonlinearity, with 81.6 in nonlinear coefficient. Increasing the $La_{2}O_3$ content further to 2.0 mol% caused the sintered density to increase, and the breakdown voltage and nonlinearity to decrease abruptly. The varistors with 0.5 mol% $La_{2}O_3$ exhibited the high electrical stability, with -1.14% in variation rate of breakdown voltage, -3.7% in variation rate of nonlinear coefficient, and +100% in variation rate of leakage current for specified DC accelerated aging stress condition (95% of breakdown voltage/$150^{\circ}C$/24 h).

  • This paper presents a stability proof for the nonlinear feedback linearization-observer/sliding mode model following controller (NFL-O/SMMFC). The separation principle is derived, and the closed-loop stability is proved by a Lyapunov function candidate using an addition form of the sliding surface vector and the estimation error.
