Dynamic stability of an axially accelerating beam structure is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion of a fixed-free beam are derived using the hybrid deformation variable method and the assumed mode method. Unstable regions due to periodical acceleration are obtained by using the Floquet's theory. Stability diagrams are presented to illustrate the influence of the dimensionless acceleration, amplitude, and frequency. Also, buckling occurs when the acceleration exceeds a certain value. It is found that relatively large unstable regions exist around the first bending natural frequency, twice the first bending natural frequency, and twice the second bending natural frequency. The validity of the stability diagram is confirmed by direct numerical integration of the equations of motion.
This study is to confirm the deformation of blade when the location of stacking is moving. Also, it desire to determine the most stable location of stacking from the analysis. In the previous study, it is Known that moving the location of stacking is not influence to the aerodynamic performance. In this study SolidWorks premium 2010 SP4 is used for structure analysis. In reference blade and other 3 model analysis, the two mesh type is used, one is standard mesh type in SolidWorks, the other is curvature-based mesh type. The result of curvature-based mesh type is more stable than one of the standard mesh type regardless of mesh size, the number of mesh. The deformation of blade tip is the smallest, when the location of stacking is identical to the center of gravity of the blade section profile. So, if possible is design, this study recommends that the location of stacking is identical to the center of gravity the blade.
In a super-large underground with "large span and high side wall", it is buried in mountains with uneven lithology, complicated geostress field and developed geological structure. These surrounding rocks are more susceptible to stability issues during the construction period. This paper takes the left bank of Baihetan hydropower station (span is 34m) as a case study example, wherein the deformation mechanism of surrounding rock appears prominent. Through analysis of geological, geophysical, construction and monitoring data, the deformation characteristics and factors are concluded. The failure mechanism, spatial distribution characteristics, and evolution mechanism are also discussed, where rock mechanics theory, $FLAC^{3D}$ numerical simulation, rock creep theory, and the theory of center point are combined. In general, huge underground cavern stability issues has arisen with respect to huge-scale and adverse geological conditions since settling these issues will have milestone significance based on the evolutionary pattern of the surrounding rock and the correlation analyses, the rational structure of the factors, and the method of nonlinear regression modeling with regard to the construction and development of hydropower engineering projects among the worldwide.
This paper presents a beam finite element model of a vibrate wind blade in large elastic deformation subjected to the aerodynamic, centrifugal, gyroscopic and gravity loads. The gyroscopic loads applied to the blade are induced by her simultaneous vibration and rotation. The proposed beam finite element model is based on a simplex interpolation method and it is mainly intended to the numerical analysis of wind blades vibration in large elastic deformation. For this purpose, the theory of the sheared beams and the finite element method are combined to develop the algebraic equations system governing the three-dimensional motion of blade vibration. The applicability of the theoretical approach is elucidated through an original case study. Also, the static deformation of the used wind blade is assessed by appropriate software using a solid finite element model in order to show the effectiveness of the obtained results. To simulate the nonlinear dynamic response of wind blade, the predictor-corrector Newmark scheme is applied and the stability of numerical process is approved during a large time of blade functioning. Finally, the influence of the modified geometrical stiffness on the amplitudes and frequencies of the wind blade vibration induced by the sinusoidal excitation of gravity is analyzed.

In this paper the vibration system is consisted of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid and a tip mass. The equation of motion is derived applying a modeling method that employs hybrid deformation variables. 'TI1e influences of the rotating angular velocity, mass ratio and the velocity of fluid flow on the stability of a cantilever pipe are studied by the numerical method. The effect of tip mass on the stability of a rotating cantilever pipe are also studied. The influences of a tip mass, the velocity of fluid the angular velocity of a cantilever pipe and the coupling of these factors on the stability of a cantilever pipe are analytically clarified.
This paper deals with the stability analysis of concrete pipes mixed with nanoparticles conveying fluid. Instead of cement, the $Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles are used in construction of the concrete pipe. The Navier-Stokes equations are used for obtaining the radial force of the fluid. Mori-Tanaka model is used for calculating the effective material properties of the concrete $pipe-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles considering the agglomeration of the nanoparticles. The first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is used for mathematical modeling of the structure. The motion equations are derived based on energy method and Hamilton's principal. An exact solution is used for stability analysis of the structure. The effects of fluid, volume percent and agglomeration of $Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles, magnetic field and geometrical parameters of pipe are shown on the stability behaviour of system. Results show that considering the agglomeration of $Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles, the critical fluid velocity of the concrete pipe is decreased.
Numerical analysis is important for the design, construction and maintenance of large caverns. The rock mass contains generally discontinuities such as faults, joints and fissures. The mechanical behavior and geometric characteristics of these discontinuities would have a significant impact on the stability of the caverns. In this research the Distinct Element Method(DEM) was used to analyze the structural stability of the large cavern. The Barton-Bandis Joint Model (B-B J.M) was used as a constitutive model for the joint. In addition, two different cases 1) analysis with a support system and 2) analysis with no support system, were analyzed to optimize a support system and to investigate reinforcing effects of a support system. The most significant parameters of in-situ stress, JRC of in-situ natural joints, and spatial distribution characteristics of discontinuities were acquired through field investigation. Displacement (horizontal, joint shear), maximum joint opening, maximum and minimum principal stresses, range of relaxed zone, rockbolt axial forces and shotcrete stresses were calculated at each excavation stage. As a result of analysis the calculated values proved to be under the allowable value Rockbolts also proved to be an efficient support measure to control joint shear displacement which had significant effects on extending the relaxed zone. As a consequence, the structural stability of the cavern was assured with an appropriate support system.
It can be said that rock mass properties are characterized not by a mean value but by values with variation due to its characteristic uncertainty. This characteristic is one of the most important parts for the design of underground structures, but yet to be fully examined. Stochastic finite element method (SFEM) has been developed in order to take the randomness of structural systems into account. Using SFEM, the response variability of structural system can be obtained and it leads probabilistic stability of structure to be analyzed. In this study, displacements response variability of circular opening with hydrostatic stress field are analyzed in terms of rock mass properties having a certain mean and a standard deviation using the SFEM. The analyzed response variability shows that the necessity of probabilistic stability analysis of underground structures using reliable mean value and standard deviation of deformation modulus.
With the rapid development of the distributed strain sensing (DSS) technology, the strain becomes an alternative monitoring parameter to analyze slope stability conditions. Previous studies reveal that the horizontal strain measurements can be used to evaluate the deformation pattern and failure mechanism of soil slopes, but they fail to consider various influential factors. Regarding the horizontal strain as a key parameter, this study aims to investigate the stability condition of a locally loaded slope by adopting the variable-controlling method and conducting a strength reduction finite element analysis. The strain distributions and factors of safety in different conditions, such as slope ratio, soil strength parameters and loading locations, are investigated. The results demonstrate that the soil strain distribution is closely related to the slope stability condition. As the slope ratio increases, more tensile strains accumulate in the slope mass under surcharge loading. The cohesion and the friction angle of soil have exponential relationships with the strain parameters. They also display close relationships with the factors of safety. With an increasing distance from the slope edge to the loading position, the transition from slope instability to ultimate bearing capacity failure can be illustrated from the strain perspective.
This paper deals with the dynamic buckling behavior of truncated conical shells composed of carbon nanotube composites, an important area of study in view of their very wide engineering applications in aerospace industries. In this regard, the effective material properties of the nanocomposite have been computed using the Mori-Tanaka model, which has already been established for such analyses. The motion equations ruling the structure's behavior are derived using first order shear deformation theory, Hamilton's principle, and energy method. This will provide adequate background information on its dynamic response. In an effort to probe the dynamic instability region of the structure, differential quadrature method combined with Bolotin's method will be adopted to tackle the resulting motion equations, which enables efficient and accurate analysis. This work considers the effect of various parameters in the geometrical parameters and the volume fraction of CNTs on the structure's DIR. Specifically, it became clear that increasing the volume fraction of CNTs shifted the frequency range of the DIR to higher values, indicating the significant role of nanocomposite composition regarding structure stability.
