  • In this study, a numerical stability analysis was performed for a large tunnel considering excavation sequence. In most cases, stability of a tunnel is analyzed based on the stability of the final excavation stage only. In this study, stability analysis of a tunnel was performed at each excavation stage. In summary, it can be inferred that there is no problem in stability of the tunnel. However, thorough and careful measurements are recommended. Also, it is found that the stability of the tunnel at the 5th excavation stage when the right half of the main tunnel is excavated is rather lower than that of the tunnel at the final excavation stage.

  • For slope stability analysis, an alternative to the classical limit equilibrium method (LEM) of slices is the shear strength reduction method (SRM), which can be integrated into finite element analysis or finite difference analysis. Recently, probabilistic analysis of earth slopes has been very attractive because it is capable to take the soil uncertainty into account. However, the SRM is less commonly extended to probabilistic framework compared to a variety of probabilistic LEM analysis of earth slopes. To overcome some limitations that hinder the development of probabilistic SRM stability analysis, a new procedure based on recursive algorithm FORM with sensitivity analysis in the space of original variables is proposed. It can be used to deal with correlated non-normal variables subjected to implicit limit state surface. Using the proposed approach, a probabilistic finite element analysis of the stability of an existing earth dam is carried out in this paper.

  • A method to calculate stability limits is investigated to predict the characteristics of high-frequency combustion instability in liquid-propellant rocket engine. It is based on the theory of linear stability analysis proposed in previous works and useful to predict combustion stability at the beginning stage of engine development. The system of equations governing reactive flow in combustor has the simplified and linearized forms. The overall equation expressing stability limits is adopted. The procedures to evaluate quantitatively each term included in the equation are proposed. The thermo-chemical properties and flow variables required in the evaluation can be obtained from calculation of thermodynamic equilibrium, CFD results, and experimental test data. Based on the existent data, stability limits are calculated with actual rocket engine (KSR-III rocket engine). The present calculations show the reasonable stability limits in a quantitative manner and the stability characteristics of the engine are discussed. The prediction from linear stability analysis could be serve as the first approximation to the true prediction.

  • Due to recent trends of the atypical plan shapes and the zoning construction in high-rise buildings, the building stability under construction is arising as an important issue for design and construction plan. To ensure the stability under construction, the differential column shortening and the lateral movements with unbalanced distributions of self-weight of structure members and the load flows before completion of member connections and lateral load resisting system should be checked by construction sequence analysis. This paper presents the scheme of zone-based construction sequence analysis, to check the stability of high-rise building under construction. This scheme is applied to the construction sequence analysis for real high-rise building under construction.

  • In many conventional analysis of voltage stability the effect of load characteristics is ignored. But in the real system the load is composed of various components. Therefore if the load composition could be modeled then it will plays an important role in the analysis of static voltage stability. And also, if the system loss generally imposed to slack bus in the conventional load flow calculation is redistributed to each generator the accuracy of static voltage stability analysis can be improved. This paper presents the effect of load composition in the analysis of system stability as well the loss redistribution algorithm. And this paper will compare the result of conventional method with that of the proposed method.

  • In this study, Ichon basin is selected as study area and regional analysis of geological structure are done by using lineament analysis. The factors which affects slope stability, are chosen, and integrated to database using GIS (Geoscientific Information System). Landsat TM band 4, 5 and 7 are choosen and processed by various image enhancement technique to analyse the regional geological lineaments. Spatial distribution of lineament is analysed through lineament density map and study area can be divided the eight structural domains. Considering environmental geological characteristics of study area, rating and weighting of each factors for slope stability analysis are determined and spatial analysis of regional slope stability is examined through overlaying technique of GIS. The result of areal distribution of slope stability shows that the most unstable area is all over Mt. Buksung, Mt. Daepo, Mt. Songrim and Mt. Yankak.

  • This study proposes a sensitivity analysis method for slope stability based on the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) to examine the influencing factors of slope stability. The method uses LS-SVM as an algorithm for machine learning. An appropriate training dataset is established according to the slope characteristics, and a testing dataset is designed orthogonally. Results of the testing data in the experiment design are calculated after training using the LS-SVM model. The sensitivity of the slope stability of each factor is examined via gray correlation analysis. The results are consistent with those of the traditional Bishop analysis and can be used as a reference for optimizing slope design.

  • Dynamic stability of a high speed train is very important. This paper presents a dynamic stability analysis of K-TGV using Vampire Program. The analysis of stability on this paper is performed in condition of track irregularity, curved track and strong gust. The critical speed of K-TGV is 140m1s, and it is stable when runs on 7000R(cant 150mm) curved track and on linear track with the body exerted 101kN lateral impulse force.

  • In this paper, a damaged example of hanging guide frame used in the lifting of shore protection caisson was investigated. An examination of the stress and stability of members was carried out by structural analysis and the causes of damages was investigated. The stability analysis considering local and global stress buckling was performed. As a result of stability analysis. the first structure was unstable structure. Therefore improved structure was examined and the best effective methodology was the reassignment of wire.
