  • Incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with $\varepsilon{-SST}$ turbulence model are adopted for the investigation of the flow fields between the square cylinder and the ground. When the grounds moves, the diminish of the shear layer intensity on the ground promotes the interaction between the lower and the upper separated shear layer of the cylinder. Hence vortex shedding occurs at the lower gap height than stationary ground. In the moving ground, the secondary shedding frequency disappears due to the absence of the separation bubble on the ground which exists in the stationary ground. In addition, the shedding frequency and aerodynamic coefficients in the moving ground become higher than those of the stationary ground.

  • To evaluate LBM we performed the simulation of the unsteady two dimensional flow over a square cylinder in a channel in moderate Reynolds number range, $100\~500$ by using LBM and Fractional-Step method. Frist of all we compared LBM solution of Poiseuille flow applied Farout and periodic boundary conditions with the analytical solution to verify the applicability of the boundary conditions. For LBM simulation the calculation domain was formed by structured 500x100 grids. Prescribed maximum velocity and density inlet and Farout boundary conditions were imposed on the in-out boundaries. Bounceback boundary condition was applied to the channel and the cylinder waifs. The flow patterns and vortex shedding strouhal numbers were compared with previous research results. The flow patterns by LBM were in agreement with the flow pattern by fractional step method. Furthermore the strouhal number computed by LBM simulation result was more accurate than that of fractional step method through the comparison of the previous research results.

  • We performed the simulation of the unsteady three dimensional flow over a square cylinder in a wind tunnel in moderate Reynolds number range, $100{\sim}2500$ by using LBM. SGS model was applied for the turbulent flow. Frist of all we compared LBM(Lattice Boltzmann Method) solution of Poiseuille flow applied Farout and bounce back boundary conditions with the analytical and FOAM solutions to verify the applicability of the boundary conditions. For LBM simulation the calculation domain was formed by structured grids and prescribed uniform velocity and density inlet and Farout boundary conditions were imposed on the in-out boundaries. Bounceback and wind tunnel boundary conditions were applied to the cylinder walls and the boundaries of calculation domain respectively. The maximum Strouhal number of the vortex shedding is 0.2025 at Re = 750. and the number maintains the constant value of 0.18 when Re>1000. We also predicted that the critical reynolds number of the turbulent flow is in the range of $250{\sim}500$.

  • This study performed numerical simulation to elucidate the characteristics of flow past a rectangular cylinder with various values of the aspect ratio(AR) of the cylinder. We calculated the flow field, force coefficients and Strouhal number of vortex shedding depending on the Reynolds number(Re) and the aspect ratio. The $AR{\approx}1$ is preferred for drag reduction, and 0.375$AR{\approx}0$ is recommended if suppression of the lift-coefficient fluctuation and the shedding frequency is desirable. Furthermore the criticality of the Hopf bifurcation is also reported for each AR.

  • The goal of this paper is to introduce two methods to determine a model for the accelerated factor equation for pneumatic cylinder according to the Black equation shape. The loads consist of working pressure and temperature and we adjust these two parameters to reduce the test time but keeping the true behavior of deterioration. The first part will introduce a method using accelerated factor coming from experimental results to determine the coefficient of the Black equation by the method of the least square theory. The second part will introduce another method based on various conditions of test with the assumption that the effect of temperature and the effect of pressure on the life of pneumatic cylinder are independent. In these two cases, the results are the unknown coefficients of the Black equation.

  • A hybrid RANS/LES approach, based on the Limited Numerical Scales concept, is applied to the numerical simulation of the flow around a square cylinder. The key feature of this approach is a blending between two eddy-viscosities, one given by the $k-{\varepsilon}$ RANS model and the other by the Smagorinsky LES closure. A mixed finite-element/finite-volume formulation is used for the numerical discretization on unstructured grids. The results obtained with the hybrid approach are compared with those given by RANS and LES simulations for three different grid resolutions; comparisons with experimental data and numerical results in the literature are also provided. It is shown that, if the grid resolution is adequate for LES, the hybrid model recovers the LES accuracy. For coarser grid resolutions, the blending criterion appears to be effective to improve the accuracy of the results with respect to both LES and RANS simulations.

  • Effects of the oscillating incoming flow on vortex shedding and lock-on behind a square cylinder are investigated using numerical simulations at a Reynolds number of 100. Vortex shedding occurred at low forcing frequencies of the incoming flow similar to the natural vortex shedding. As the forcing frequency further increases, the shedding frequency decreases to the half of the forcing freqnency. For a sufficiently large frequency, vortex shedding returns to the natural vortex shedding irrespective of the forcing amplitude. Also, the lock-on region becomes wider with higher forcing amplitudes. The phase diagram between the drag and lift shows a simple periodic behavior in the lock-on region, while a complicated periodic phase relation is observed when there is no lock-on.

  • The logarithmic form for turbulent flow analysis guarantees the positivity of the turbulence variables as ${\kappa}$ and ${\varepsilon}$ of the ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model by using the natural logarithm of these variables. In the present study, the logarithmic form is incorporated into the finite element solution procedure for the unsteady turbulent flow analysis. A backward facing step flow using the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and a flow around a 2D square cylinder using the modified ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model (the Kato-Launder model) are simulated. These results show that the logarithmic form effectively keeps adequate balance of turbulence variables and makes the analysis stable during transient or unsteady processes.

  • In this study a new pattern of pressure control of hydraulic cylinder using high speed On-Off solenoid valve in the electro-hydraulic system has been suggested. The control valve is 3-way high speed On-Off solenoid valve which is operated by PWM(Pulse Width Modulation)control signal. The high speed On-Off solenoid valve has a tendency to induce severe pressure fluctuation in the hydraulic actuator so it has not been used for the purpose of closed loop control with direct pres-sure feedback. In this study closed loop control with direct pressure feedback is enabled by using a digital filter which has linear minimum mean square filter algorithm. Through some experiments it is confirmed that stable pressure control can be realized by the proposed control technique.
