  • Refraction tomography requires an algorithm for efficiently computing the traveltimes and their $Fr\'{e}chet$ derivatives. We have attempted to solve the damped wave field using the frequency domain finite element model ing and then invoked the reciprocity theorem to calculate the $Fr\'{e}chet$ derivative of the traveltime with respect to the subsurface parameter. Then, we used a damped least square method to invert the traveltimes of the Marmousi 2 model. Numerical tests demonstrate that the refraction tomography with large aperture data can be used to estimate the smooth velocity model for the prestack depth migration.

  • The design standards, such as AISC-LRFD (2005) and KBC-2005, specify the maximum width-to-thickness ratio that can be used for computing the strength of the concrete-filled tube (CFT), and do not include any formula for computing the strength when the width-to-thickness ratio is over the limit. This paper proposes a strength equation for CFTs with a large width-to-thickness ratio by acknowledging the fact that the stiffened slender steel platehas substantial postbuckling strength, and that it therefore can be more economical to use it. The equation adopts the concept of effective width, which is very useful for plate analysis. By comparing the strengths of AISC2005, KBC2005, and the proposed method with the results of the experiment, where the width-to-thickness ratio was regarded as the main parameter, the applicability of the proposed method was verified.

  • With the development of bio computing technology, DNA watermarking to do as a medium of DNA information has been researched in the latest time. However, DNA information is very important in biologic function unlikely multimedia data. Therefore, the reversible DNA watermarking is required for the host DNA information to be perfectively recovered. This paper presents a reversible DNA watermarking using least square based prediction error expansion for noncodng DNA sequence. Our method has three features. The first thing is to encode the character string (A,T,C,G) of nucleotide bases in noncoding region to integer code values by grouping n nucleotide bases. The second thing is to expand the prediction error based on least square (LS) as much as the expandable bits. The last thing is to prevent the false start codon using the comparison searching of adjacent watermarked code values. Experimental results verified that our method has more high embedding capacity than conventional methods and mean prediction method and also makes the prevention of false start codon and the preservation of amino acids.

  • This study is to investigate dynamic response of concrete buried pipelines with various end boundary conditions and develop a curve fitted equation to ensure practicality and convenience for the use at the actual field for the test of resistance of earthquake. Dynamic response under the various end boundary conditions is calculated with analysis on values and computing programs. However, such a method of analysis requires skillfulness in using computing programs for dynamic movement of buried pipelines with dynamic analysis formula and has lower efficiency and practicality because, in the nature of analysis program of values, it needs much time to conduct repeated calculations. Therefore, the study is intended to develop a curve fitted equation to ensure more efficient and practical analysis. This paper tests various degrees of equation with non-linear least square method and developments a curve fitted equation based on the transmission speed with the best results. In the use of curve fitted equation, degree of polynomial and determining coefficient are influenced by the speed of transmission.

  • Temporal medical data is often collected during patient treatments that require personal analysis. Each observation recorded in the temporal medical data is associated with measurements and time treatments. A major problem in the analysis of temporal medical data are the missing values that are caused, for example, by patients dropping out of a study before completion. Therefore, the imputation of missing data is an important step during pre-processing and can provide useful information before the data is mined. For each patient and each variable, this imputation replaces the missing data with a value drawn from an estimated distribution of that variable. In this paper, we propose a new method, called Newton's finite divided difference polynomial interpolation with condition order degree, for dealing with missing values in temporal medical data related to obesity. We compared the new imputation method with three existing subspace estimation techniques, including the k-nearest neighbor, local least squares, and natural cubic spline approaches. The performance of each approach was then evaluated by using the normalized root mean square error and the statistically significant test results. The experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed method provides the best fit with the smallest error and is more accurate than the other methods.

  • Distributed models represent watersheds using a network of numerous, uniform calculation units to provide spatially detailed and consistent evaluations across the watershed. However, these models have a disadvantage in general requiring a high computing cost. Semi-distributed models, on the other hand, delineate watersheds using a simplified network of non-uniform calculation units requiring a much lower computing cost than distributed models. Employing a simplified network of non-uniform units, however, semi-distributed models cannot but have limitations in spatially-consistent simulations of hydrogeochemical processes and are often not favoured for such a task as identifying critical source areas within a watershed. Aiming to overcome these shortcomings of both groups of models, a hybrid watershed model STREAM (Spatio-Temporal River-basin Ecohydrology Analysis Model) was developed in this study. Like a distributed model, STREAM divides a watershed into square grid cells of a same size each of which may have a different set of hydrogeochemical parameters reflecting the spatial heterogeneity. Like many semi-distributed models, STREAM groups individual cells of similar hydrogeochemical properties into representative cells for which real computations of the model are carried out. With this hybrid structure, STREAM requires a relatively small computational cost although it still keeps the critical advantage of distributed models.

  • This paper presents a Electrocardiogram(ECG) identification method using adaptive weight based on Least Mean Square Error(LMSE) optimization. With a preprocessing for noise suppression, we extracts the average ECG signal and its standard deviation at every time instant. Then the extracted information is stored in database. ECG identification is achieved by matching an input ECG signal with the information in database. In computing the matching scores, the standard deviation is used. The scores are computed by applying adaptive weights to the values of the input signal over all time instants. The adaptive weight consists of two terms. The first term is the inverse of the standard deviation of an input signal. The second term is the proportional one to the standard deviation between user SAECGs stored in the DB. Experimental results show up to 100% recognition rate for 32 registered people.

  • In a Multi-carrier modulation system, CP (Cyclic prefix) is inserted in the transmit tame in order to eliminate the ISI (Intersymbol Interference) and ICI (Interchannel Interference) caused by delay spread of a received signal, which in rum degrades the throughput of the system. TEQ (Time-domain equalizer) improves the system throughput by shortening the CIR (Channel Impulse Response) time and maintaining the CP length to the minimum regardless of the channel condition. In this paper, a new MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) TEQ algorithm is proposed and its performance is analyzed in order to speed up computing the optimum tap coefficients of the equalizer by employing Newton method.
