  • The oyster mushroom cultivation house typically has multiple layers of growing shelves that cause the disturbance of air circulation inside the mushroom house. Due to this instability in the internal environment, growth distinction occurs according to the area of the growing shelves. It is known that minimal air circulation around the mushroom cap facilitates the metabolism of mushrooms and improves their quality. For the purpose of this study, a CFD analysis FLUENT R16 has been carried out to improve the internal environment uniformity of the oyster mushroom cultivation house. It is found that installing a section of the working passage towards the ceiling is to maintain the internal environment uniformity of the oyster mushroom cultivation house. When all the environment control equipment - including a unit cooler, an inlet fan, an outlet fan, an air circulation fan, and a humidifier - were operated simultaneously, the reported Root Mean Square (RMS) valuation the growing shelves were as follows: velocity 23.86%, temperature 6.08%, and humidity 2.72%. However, when only a unit cooler and an air circulation fan operated, improved RMS values on the growing shelves were reported as follows: velocity 23.54%, temperature 0.51%, and humidity 0.41%. Therefore, in order to maintain the internal environment uniformity of the mushroom cultivation house, it is essential to reduce the overall operating time of the inlet fan, outlet fan, and humidifier, while simultaneously appropriately manage the internal environment by using a unit cooler and an air circulation fan.

  • In this paper, we address issues associated with the real-time implementation of the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II (or MUSICAM) and MPEG-4 ER-BSAC decoders for Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) on TMS320C64x+ that is a fixed-point DSP processor with a clock speed of 330 MHz. To achieve the real-time requirement, they should be optimized in different steps as follows. First of all, a C-code level optimization is performed by sharing the memory, adjusting data types, and unrolling loops. Next, an algorithm level optimization is carried out such as the reconfiguration of bitstream reading, the modification of synthesis filtering, and the rearrangement of the window coefficients for synthesis filtering. In addition, the C-code of a synthesis filtering module of the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II decoder is rewritten by using the linear assembly programming technique. This is because the synthesis filtering module requires the most processing time among all processing modules of the decoder. In order to show how the real-time implementation works, we obtain the percentage of the processing time for decoding and calculate a RMS value between the decoded audio signals by the reference MPEG decoder and its DSP version implemented in this paper. As a result, it is shown that the percentages of the processing time for the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II and MPEG-4 ER-BSAC decoders occupy less than 3% and 11% of the DSP clock cycles, respectively, and the RMS values of the MPEG-1/2 Layer-II and MPEG-4 ER-BSAC decoders implemented in this paper all satisfy the criterion of -77.01 dB which is defined by the MPEG standards.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term drought outlook information based on long-term forecast data for the 2015 drought event. In order to estimate the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) for different durations (3-, 6-, 9-, 12-months), we used the observation precipitation of 59 Automated Synoptic Observing System (ASOS) sites, forecast and hindcast data of GloSea5. The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis and statistical analysis (Correlation Coefficient, CC; Root Mean Square Error, RMSE) were used to evaluate the utilization of drought outlook information for the forecast lead-times (1~6months). As a result of ROC analysis, ROC scores of SPI(3), SPI(6), SPI(9) and SPI(12) were estimated to be over 0.70 until the 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-months. The CC and RMSE values of SPI(3), SPI(6), SPI(9) and SPI(12) for forecast lead-time were estimated as (0.60, 0.87), (0.72, 0.95), (0.75, 0.95) and (0.77, 0.89) until the 2-, 4-, 5- and 6-months respectively.

  • This study aims at assessing the quality of the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) soil moisture products onboard GCOM-W1 satellite based on Land Parameter Retrieval Model (LPRM) soil moisture retrieval algorithm with field measurements in South Korea from March to September, 2014. Results of mean bias and root mean square error between AMSR2 LPRM soil moisture products (X-band) and ground measurements showed reasonable value of 0.03 and 0.16. Also, the maximum of the Pearson correlation coefficients was 0.67, which showed good agreement in terms of temporal variability with ground measurements. By comparing AMSR2 soil moisture with in-situ measurement according to the overpass time and band frequency, X-band products on the ascending time outperformed than those of C1-band and C2-band. Furthermore, this study offers an insight into the applicability of the AMSR2 soil moisture products for monitoring various natural disasters at a large scale such as drought and flood.

  • We synthesized the solution processible monodispersed $TiO_2$ crystalline nano-sol with ~ 5 nm in size by sol-gel method. Through the spin-coating of crystalline $TiO_2$ nano-sol at low processing temperature, we could make even blocking interlayer on the rough FTO transparent electrode substrate. The rough FTO surface could be gradually smoothed by the spin-coating of nano-crystalline $TiO_2$ sol based blocking interlayer. The 1, 2.5, 5, and 10 wt% of nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ sol formed 29, 38, 62, and 226 nm-thick of blocking interlayer in present experimental condition, respectively. The 5 and 10 wt% of $TiO_2$ nano-sol could effectively fill up the valley part of bare FTO with 48.7 nm of rms (root mean square) roughness and consequently enabled the ZnO to be grown to vertically aligned one dimensional nanorods on the flattened blocking interlayer/FTO substrate.

  • Consumers changed to the subject to produce a digital contents as data transmission technique is advanced and a digital machine is diffused variously. Users are interested greatly in a user creative movie (UCM) production among various online contents. The UCM production method which uses the music and picture is the method that users make the UCM more easily. However, the UCM production service has the problem that any association does not exist in the music and picture and that the picture changes according to fixed time interval without the relation at a music rhythm. To solve this problem, we propose the UCM production method which uses a music analysis and picture analysis in the paper. A music analysis finds a picture change time according to the rhythm and a picture analysis finds the association of the picture. A music analysis finds strong parts of the sound which uses Root-Mean-Square (RMS). And a picture analysis classifies the picture as a scenery picture and people picture which uses structure simplicity of the picture(SSP) and face region detection. A picture analysis got correct result of 86.4% in the experiment and we can finds the association at each picture and arranges the sequence which the picture appears. Therefore, if we use a music and picture analysis at the UCM production, users may make natural and efficient movie.

  • In a haptic system, a virtual wall is modeled as a virtual spring. The larger the stiffness of the virtual spring is, the more improved the reality of the virtual wall is, but the more unstable the haptic system becomes. This paper shows how to increase the stiffness of the virtual spring while the stability of the haptic system is guaranteed and shows the effects of a mass (Md) and a damper (Bd) of a haptic device on the stability when first-order hold method is applied and a virtual wall is modeled as a virtual spring (Kw). The simulation results show the boundary of the virtual spring is proportional to the square root of the mass (Md) and the damper (Bd) while maintaining the stability. The relation among the virtual spring (Kw), the mass (Md) and the damper (Bd) of the haptic device, and sampling time (T) is inferred as $K_w{\leq}{1.611M_d}^{0.50}{B_d}^{0.50}T^{-1.51}$, by using the simulation results. The maximum available stiffness of the virtual spring in first-order hold method is larger than in zero-order hold method. So the reality of the virtual wall can be improved.

  • A shift of first fowering date (FFD) of spring blossoms (cherry, peach and pear) over the northest Asia under global warming is investiaged using dynamically downscaled daily temperature data with 12.5 km resolution. For the study, we obatained gridded daily data with Historical (1981~2010), and Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) (2021~2100) 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios which were produced by WRFv3.4 in conjunction with HadGEM2-AO. A change on FFDs in 21st century is estimated by applying daily outputs of WRFv3.4 to DTS phonological model. Prior to projection on future climate, the performances of both WRFv3.4 and DTS models are evaluated using spatial distribution of climatology and SCR diagram (Normalized standard deviation-Pattern correlation coefficient-Root mean square difference). According to the result, WRFv3.4 and DTS models well simulated a feature of the terrain following characteristics and a general pattern of observation with a marigin of $1.4^{\circ}C$ and 5~6 days. The analysis reveals a projected advance in FFDs of cherry, peach and pear over the northeast Asia by 2100 of 15.4 days (9.4 days). 16.9 days (10.4 days) and 15.2 days (9.5 days), respectively, compared to the Historical simulation due to a increasing early spring (Februrary to April) temperature of about $4.9^{\circ}C$ ($2.9^{\circ}C$) under the RCP 8.5 (RCP 4.5) scenarios. This indicates that the current flowering of the cherry, peach and pear over analysis area in middle or end of April is expected to start blooming in early or middle of April, at the end of this century. The present study shows the dynamically downscaled daily data with high-resolution is helpeful in offering various useful information to end-users as well as in understanding regional climate change.

  • Recent climage changes have resulted in increases in rainfall intensity and flood frequency as well as the risk of flood damage due to typhoons during the summer season. Water-friendly facilities such as ecological parks and sports facilities have been established on floodplains of rivers since the river improvement project was implemented and increases in the flood levels of rivers due to typhoons can lead to direct flood damage to such facilities. To analyze the hydraulic influence of these water-friendly facilities on floodplains or to evaluate their stability, numerical analysis should be performed in advance. In addition, it is crucial to address the drying and wetting processes generated by water level fluctuations. This study uses a Nays2D model, which analyzes drying and wetting, to examine its applicability to simple terrain in which such fluctuations occur and to natural rivers in which drying occurs. The results of applying this model to sites of actual typhoon events are compared with values measured at water level observatories. Through this comparison, it is determined that values of coefficient of determination ($R^2$), mean absolute error (MAE), and root-mean-square error (RMSE) are 0.988, 0.208, and 0.239, respectively, thus showing a statistically high correlation. In addition, the results are used to calculate flood risk indices for evaluation of such risk for water-friendly facilities constructed on floodplains.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the accuracy of the urban runoff and drainage network analysis by using the observed water level in the drainage network. To do this, sensitivity analysis for major parameters of SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) was performed and parameters were calibrated. The sensitivity of the parameters was the order of the roughness of the conduit, the roughness of the impervious area, the width of the watershed, and the roughness of the pervious area. Six types of scenarios were set up according to the number and types of parameter considering four parameters with high sensitivity. These scenarios were applied to the Seocho-3/4/5, Yeoksam, and Nonhyun drainage basins, where the serious flood damage occurred due to the heavy rain on 21 July, 2013. Parameter optimization analysis based on PEST (Parameter ESTimation) model for each scenario was performed by comparing observed water level in the conduits. By analyzing the accuracy of each scenario, more improved simulation results could be obtained, that is, the maximum RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) could be reduced by 2.41cm and the maximum peak error by 13.7%. The results of this study will be helpful to analyze volume of the manhole surcharge and forecast the inundation area more accurately.
