Background: Biomarkers for cancer have several potential clinical uses, including the following: early cancer detection, monitoring for recurrence prognostication, and risk stratification. However, no biomarker has been shown to have adequate sensitivity and specificity. Many investigators have tried to validate biomarkers for the early detection and recurrence of lung cancer. To evaluate plasma G-CSF as such a biomarker, protein levels were measured and were found to correlate with the clinicopathological features of primary lung tumors. Methods: Between December 2006 and May 2008, 100 patients with histologically-validated primary lung cancer were enrolled into this study. To serve as controls, 127 healthy volunteers were enrolled into this study. Plasma G-CSF levels were measured in lung cancer patients using the sandwich ELISA system (R & D inc.) prior to treatment. Results: The mean plasma G-CSF levels were 12.2$\pm$0.3 pg/mL and 46.0$\pm$3.8 pg/mL (mean$\pm$SE) in the normal and in the cancer groups, respectively. In addition, plasma G-CSF levels were higher in patients with early lung cancer than in healthy volunteers (p<.001). Plasma G-CSF levels were higher in patients who were under 65 years old or smokers. Within the cancer group, plasma G-CSF levels were higher in patients with non small cell lung cancer than in patients with small cell lung cancer (p<.05). Overall, plasma G-CSF levels were shown to increase dependent upon the type of lung cancer diagnsosed. In the order from highest to lowest, the levels of plasma G-CSF tended to decrease in the following order: large cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. Background : Non-smalll lung cancer(NSCLC) develops as a result of the accumulation of multiple genetic abnormalities. Loss of heterozygosity(LOH) is one of the most frequent genetic alterations that is found in NSCLC, and the chromosomal regions that display a high rate of LOH are thought to harbor tumor suppressor genes(TSGs). This study was done to determine the frequency of LOH in 21q with the aim of identifying potential TSG loci. Method : Thirty-nine surgically resected NSCLCs were analysed. Patients peripheral lymphocytes were used as the source of the normal DNA. Five microsatellite Inarkers of 21q were used to study LOH : 21q21.1(D21S1432, and D21S1994); 21q21.2-21.3(D21S1442) ; 21q22.1(21S1445) ; and 21q22.2-22.3(D21S266). The fractional allelic loss(FAL) in a tumor was calculated as the ratio of the number of markers showing LOH to the number of informative markers. Result : LOH for at least one locus was detected in 21 of 39 tumors(53.8%). Among the 21 tumors with LOH, 5(21.8%) showed LOH at almost all informative loci. Although statistically not significant, LOH was found more frequently in squamous cell carcinomas(15 of 23, 65.2%) than in adenocarcinomas(6 of 16, 37.5%). In the squamous cell carcinomas the frequency of LOH was higher in stage II-III (80.0%) than in stage I (53.8%). The FAL value in squamous cell carcinomas($0.431{\pm}0.375$) was significantly higher than that found in adenocarcinomas($0.l92{\pm}0.276$). Conclusion : These results suggest that LOH on 21q may be involved in the development of NSCLC, and that TSG(s) that contribute to the pathogenesis of NSCLC may exist on 21q.

Background: p53 is currently considered as a tumor suppressive gene product, and its alterations are suggested to be involved in several human malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancers. p53 expression rates are variable in many reports and among cell types. Also, whether the phase of p53 expression is early or late during carcinogenesis is not certain. Thus, We have investigated to evaluate p53 expression rates of the various cell types and tissues and identify expression phase (early or late). Method: We obtained 71 tissue from 50 non-small cell lung cancer patients and performed the simple immunohistochemical staining using nonspecific monoclonal antibody(NCL-p53DO7). Results: 1) In non-small cell lung cancer patients. the expression rate of lungs(46.5%) is higher than that(25.0%) of lymph nodes. But, there is no significant difference between two groups. 2) Among the various cell types, p53 expression rates in squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma are 58.3% and 50.0% respectively without significant difference. 3) p53 expression rates in various stages are 33.3%, 60.0%, 40.0%, 60.0% and 66.7% in stage I, II, IIIa, IIIb and IV, respectively with no significant difference. 4) p53 expression rates in the various T parameters are 33.3%, 50.0%, 16.7% and 100% in T1, T2, T3 and T4, respectively and p53 expression rates in the various N parameters are 27.3%, 22.2% and 25.0% in N1, N2 and N3, respectively. There are no significant differences in the expression rates among varous T & N parameters. 5) p53 expression rates of lymph nodes in patients who have positive stains in lungs are 12.5% and 50.0% in N1 and N2. 6) p53 expression rates of all lymph nodes in patients who have negative stains in lungs are 0.0%. Conclusion: The above results show that p53 expression rate in non-small cell lung cancers is not correlated with cell type and progression of stage and it is thought to need further investigations about at what phase p53 expression influences the development and progression of lung cancers.

Objective: To assess associations between codon 72 polymorphisms (Pro or B and Arg or b alleles) of the TP53 gene and lung cancer risk among Bangladeshis. Materials and Methods: The distribution of the BB, Bb, and bb genotypes and the frequencies of the B and b alleles were determined by PCR-RFLP method using DNA extracted from leucocytes of 50 confirmed lung cancer patients and 50 age-matched controls and the data were analysed. Results: The ratio of BB, Bb, and bb genotypes were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium except for the male patients (${\chi}2=4.6$). The B allele is overrepresented among all patients (OR=2.0, p=0.02) and the female patients (OR=4.1, $p{\leq}0.01$) compared to the controls. The BB/bb ratio was also higher among the patients (OR=3.0, p=0.03). The relative risk of cancer for having BB over bb genotype was 1.8 (p=0.04) but no effect was observed for the Bb genotype. The B allele was overrepresented among patients with adenocarcinomas (OR=2.4, $p{\leq}0.01$) and squamous cell carcinomas (OR=2.7, $p{\leq}0.01$) over the controls but the difference was not significant for those with small cell lung carcinomas (OR=1.1, p=0.66). The B allele was overrepresented among patients age 50 or younger (OR=2.7, $p{\leq}0.01$), but not for older patients (OR=1.7, p=0.07), and among smokers compared to the controls (OR=1.8-10.0, $p{\leq}0.01-0.03$). However, no correlation between increasing pack-years and lung cancer was observed. Conclusions: The Pro/Pro (BB) genotype and the B allele are risk factors for lung cancer among Bangladeshis, particularly for people under age 50, women and smokers.

Background: Lung cancer-associated hypercalcemia is one of the most disabling and life-threatening paraneoplastic disorders. Humoral hypercalcemia is responsible for most lung cancer-associated hypercalcemia. Patients with hypercalcemia are usually in the advanced stage with obvious bulky tumor and carry a poor prognosis. Materials and Methods: Total 29 patients satisfied the following criteria: histologically proven primary lung cancer, corrected calcium level ${\geq}$ 10.5 mg/dL, and symptoms which could possibly be attributed to hypercalcemia. In this retrospective study, we evaluated the various clinical aspects of hypercalcemia, in relation to cancer stage, histologic cell type, mass size, bone metastasis, performance status, and other possible characteristics. Results: Total 29 lung cancer patients with hypercalcemia were studied, and most of them had squamous cell carcinoma in their histologic finding. The incidence of hypercalcemia was significantly higher between 50 and 69 years of age, and in the advancement of cancer stage. Although serum calcium level showed positive correlation with mass size, performance status, and bone metastasis, it was not significant statistically. Altered consciousness was significantly more frequent in the patients with higher serum calcium level. There were no differences in effectiveness among therapeutic regimens. Hypercalcemia was more frequently in the later stage of disease than during the initial diagnosis of lung cancer. Most of the patients died within 1 month after development of hypercalcemia. Conclusion: We concluded that hypercalcemia in lung cancer is related to extremely poor prognosis, and may be one of the causes of death and should be treated aggressively to prevent sudden deterioration or death.

Background: It is well known that skin cancer and precancerous disease develop more frequently in patients undergoing solid organ transplantation than normal populations in the normal population in Western countries. However, to date, the clinical and demographic features of skin cancer and precancerous disease after solid organ transplantation are not established in Asian countries. We evaluated the clinical and demographic features of primary skin cancer and precancerous lesions after solid organ transplantation and compared these with the trends observed in Western countries. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplantation between January 1995 and April 2017 and who developed skin cancer or precancerous lesions after transplantation. The various lesions observed were squamous and basal cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, Kaposi sarcoma, Bowen's disease, and actinic keratosis. Results: We identified 4604 patients who received organ transplant. The mean age of patients was 44.8 years (male, 64.6%; female, 35.4%), and the sum of the person-year of observation time was 31,024 person-years. The incidence rate per 100,000 person-years was 29.01 for squamous cell carcinoma, 19.34 for basal cell carcinoma, 6.45 for malignant melanoma 3.22 for Kaposi sarcoma, and 74.17 for Bowen's disease and actinic keratosis. The incidence rate per 100,000 person-years was the highest in patients undergoing heart transplantation (610.50), followed by those who underwent kidney transplantation (136.54) and liver transplantation (90.15). Koreans showed lower incidence rates than those observed in Westerners. Conclusion: The incidence of primary skin cancer and precancerous lesions after solid organ transplantation in Koreans was lower than that in Westerners. Squamous cell carcinoma was the most common skin cancer in patients undergoing solid organ transplantation and the incidence rate of skin cancer and precancerous lesions was the highest in patients undergoing heart transplantation.

Objectives: Deletion in the short arm of chromosome 3 is common in many human cancers, including sporadic and hereditary renal carcinomas, small cell lung carcinomas, non-small cell lung carcinomas, and carcinomas of the ovary, breast, and cervix. A high frequency of chromosomal aberrations in head and neck cancers involving chromosome 3p has also been reported. These findings suggest that multiple tumor suppressor genes may be present on the short arm of chromosome 3. Materials and Methods: To investigate the possibility of chromosome 3p deletions in the Korean head and neck cancer patients, we applied a polymerase chain reaction(PCR)-based Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism analysis to the DNA samples of matched normal mucosa and head and neck squamous cell carcinomas from 19 patients. Results: In the 19 normal samples heterozygosity at the polymorphic loci varied: 6 at the D3F15S2 locus(on telomeric 3p21), 2 at the D3S32 locus(on centromeric 3p21), and 4 at the THRB locus(on centromeric 3p24). In 12 matched carcinoma specimens, LOH(loss of heterozygosity) was observed at D3F15S2 in 1 of 6(17%), D3S32 in 1 of 2(50%), and at THRB in 2 of 4 cases(50%). Conclusion: The frequency of chromosome 3p deletion in the Korean head and neck carcinomas appear as other country did.
This is the result of the annual statistic analysis of thoracic and cardiovascular surgical cases in 1992 Korea. Overall 17, 520 cases of surgery [11, 732 cases of thoracic surgery by 54 institutes / 5, 788 cases of cardiovascular surgery by 48 institutes] were done. 1. Tumor [N=2, 532] : Lung was the most frequently involved organ by tumor [54.9%],and the remainders were mediastinum [16.2%] / esophagus [14.8%] / chest wall [11.7%] / tracheobronchus [1.3%] / pleura [1.1%] in order. Of 1, 082 cases of primary lung cancer surgery,the frequency of cell type was squamous [62.6%] / adeno [21.6%] / small cell [7.1%] / large cell [2.7%]. Of 411 cases of mediastinal tumor surgery,the frequency of cell type was neurogenic [28.8%] / thymoma [27.6%] / teratoma [17.7%] / congenital cystic [17.2%]. Of 376 cases of esophageal tumor surgery,primary cancer were the most [85.4%]. 2. Infection [N=3, 157] : Pleura was the most frequently involved organ [59.0%],and the remainders were lung [31.3%] / chest wall [8.6%] / mediastinum [1.1%] in order. 3. Miscellaneous [N=6, 043] : Lung and pleural disease esp. pneumothorax [85.1%] was the most frequent surgical indication. The remainders were chest wall anomaly [3.4%] / benign esophageal disease [3.4%] / diaphragmatic pathology [2.4%] / myasthenia [1.4%] in order. Of 85 cases of thymectomy for myasthenia gravis,thymoma was noted in 58.8%. 1. Congenital heart disease [N=3, 363] : The ratio of noncyanotic to cyanotic heart disease was 3:1. Of 2, 516 cases of noncyanotic heart disease,the frequency of disease entity was VSD [44.1%] / ASD [26.0%] / PDA [19.4%] / PS [3.3%],and that of 847 cases of cyanotic heart disease was TOF [29.4%] / ECD [15.6%] / TGA [9.7%] / DORV [7.6%]. Overall mortalities were 2.1% in noncyanotic and 12.2% in cyanotic heart surgery. 2. Acquired heart disease [N=1, 929] : Of 1, 422 cases of valvular surgery,single mitral pathology was the most frequent candidate [48.0%],and total 1, 574 prosthetic valves which were mainly mechanical [95.6%] were used. Of 376 cases of coronary surgery,triple vessel was the most [35.9%],and the frequency of bypassing grafts was great saphenous vein [52.9%] / internal mammary artery [44.7%] / artificial vessel [2.4%]. Overall mortalities were 3.4% in valvular and 4.5% in coronary surgery. 3. Pericardium,Cardiac tumor,Arrhythmia,Aortic aneurysm,Assist device,and Pacemaker : There were no specific changes compared to previous survey1]. Various genetic and environmental factors are known to be associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We identified COPD-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using 189 samples accompanying either adenocarcinoma (AC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SC), comprising 91 normal and 98 COPD samples. DEGs were obtained from the intersection of two DEG sets separately identified for AC and SC to exclude the influence of different cancer backgrounds co-occurring with COPD. We also measured patient samples named group 'I', which were unable to be determined as normal or COPD based on alterations in gene expression. The Gene Ontology (GO) analysis revealed significant alterations in the expression of genes categorized with the 'cell adhesion', 'inflammatory response', and 'mitochondrial functions', i.e., well-known functions related to COPD, in samples from patients with COPD. Multi-omics data were subsequently integrated to decipher the upstream regulatory changes linked to the gene expression alterations in COPD. COPD-associated expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) were located at the upstream regulatory regions of 96 DEGs. Additionally, 45 previously identified COPD-related miRNAs were predicted to target 66 of the DEGs. The eQTLs and miRNAs might affect the expression of 'respiratory electron transport chain' genes and 'cell proliferation' genes, respectively, while both eQTLs and miRNAs might affect the expression of 'apoptosis' genes. We think that our present study will contribute to our understanding of the molecular etiology of COPD accompanying lung cancer.
From June 1987 to January 1991, 24 patients with moderate or massive pericardial effusion underwent subxiphoid pericardial window procedures for diagnosis and therapy. The patients` ages were ranged from 28 years to 71 years. The underlying diseases were chronic renal failure with long term hemodialysis in 3 cases, malignant lung cancer in 7 cases, stomach cancer in 2 cases, tuberculous pericarditis in 5 cases, pyogenic pericarditis in 2 cases, myxedema in one case, one metastatic squamous cell carcinoma from unknown origin and three of undefined etiology. Preoperative diagnoses of pericardial effusions were confirmed by echocardiogram in all cases. Subxiphoid pericardial drainages were performed under general[n=19] or local anesthesia[n=5]. Histological diagnoses were made from the inferior pericardial tissue in all cases except one. In this one case[tuberculous pericarditis], the subxiphoid pericardial approach was failed from intraoperative bleeding. There were two postoperative death, one[in malignant lung cancer] had postoperative ventricular tachycardia which result in cardiac arrest, and the other[unknown origin metastatic malignant effusion] had persistent tachyarrhythmia postoperatively and died on postoperative 5th days. Twenty three patients were followed up from 3 days to 9 months; mean follow-up day was 43 days. The preoperative and postoperative mean cardiothoracic ratio in chest x-ray were 0.69 and 0.52 respectively. Subxiphoid pericardial drainage may provide definitive diagnosis and treatment for pericardial effusions. The approach through subxiphoid pericardium under general or local anesthesia avoids the complications of pericardiocentesis and is effective for malignant pericardial effusion.

서비스를 일시 중단할 수 있으며, 예정되어 있는 작업으로 인한 서비스 일시중단은 당 사이트 홈페이지를
통해 사전에 공지합니다.
② 당 사이트는 서비스를 특정범위로 분할하여 각 범위별로 이용가능시간을 별도로 지정할 수 있습니다. 다만

제 13 조 (홈페이지 저작권)
① NDSL에서 제공하는 모든 저작물의 저작권은 원저작자에게 있으며, KISTI는 복제/배포/전송권을 확보하고
있습니다.
② NDSL에서 제공하는 콘텐츠를 상업적 및 기타 영리목적으로 복제/배포/전송할 경우 사전에 KISTI의 허락을
받아야 합니다.
③ NDSL에서 제공하는 콘텐츠를 보도, 비평, 교육, 연구 등을 위하여 정당한 범위 안에서 공정한 관행에
합치되게 인용할 수 있습니다.
④ NDSL에서 제공하는 콘텐츠를 무단 복제, 전송, 배포 기타 저작권법에 위반되는 방법으로 이용할 경우
저작권법 제136조에 따라 5년 이하의 징역 또는 5천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있습니다.
제 14 조 (유료서비스)
① 당 사이트 및 협력기관이 정한 유료서비스(원문복사 등)는 별도로 정해진 바에 따르며, 변경사항은 시행 전에
당 사이트 홈페이지를 통하여 회원에게 공지합니다.
② 유료서비스를 이용하려는 회원은 정해진 요금체계에 따라 요금을 납부해야 합니다.
제 5 장 계약 해지 및 이용 제한
제 15 조 (계약 해지)

제 16 조 (서비스 이용제한)

② 상기 이용제한 규정에 따라 서비스를 이용하는 회원에게 서비스 이용에 대하여 별도 공지 없이 서비스 이용의
일시정지, 이용계약 해지 할 수 있습니다.
제 17 조 (전자우편주소 수집 금지)
회원은 전자우편주소 추출기 등을 이용하여 전자우편주소를 수집 또는 제3자에게 제공할 수 없습니다.
제 6 장 손해배상 및 기타사항
제 18 조 (손해배상)
당 사이트는 무료로 제공되는 서비스와 관련하여 회원에게 어떠한 손해가 발생하더라도 당 사이트가 고의 또는 과실로 인한 손해발생을 제외하고는 이에 대하여 책임을 부담하지 아니합니다.
제 19 조 (관할 법원)
서비스 이용으로 발생한 분쟁에 대해 소송이 제기되는 경우 민사 소송법상의 관할 법원에 제기합니다.
[부 칙]
1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
