Discharge valve mechanism for an electrodynamic-oscillating compressor is different from that of a conventional reciprocating compressor. It has a larger discharge port area, heavier valve mass and stiffer valve spring comparing with the reciprocating one. Since the motion of piston is not kinematically restricted as in conventional reciprocating compressors, the stroke of the piston can change sensitively with supplied boltage and load. Thus piston can impact with discharge valve occasionally. This work deals on dynamic analysis of discharge valve considering all of those different characteristics. Impact is considered by a spring-mass model, and the pressure fluctuation at the both sides of the valve is also included considering the discharge port area and valve spring preload. It is assumed that piston moves in the region of between top and bottom dead center not by calculating piston motion from an electrodynamic equation but by getting values through experiment. Discharge pressure fluctuation is calculated using Helmholtz modeling. Finally, dynamic model for a discharge valve is constructed. In order to validate the model analysis results, the valve motion is experimentally measured and compared with analysis.
This paper presents a series of experimental and numerical investigations on a vertical isolation system with quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) property. The isolation system comprises a linear helical spring and disk spring. The disk spring is designed to provide variable stiffness to the system. Orthogonal static tests with different design parameters are conducted to verify the mathematical and mechanical models of the isolation system. The deviations between theoretical and test results influenced by the design parameters are summarized. Then, the dynamic tests for the systems with different under-load degrees are performed, including the fast sweeping tests, harmonic excitation tests, and half-sine impact tests. The displacement transmissibility, vibration reduction rate, and free vibration response are calculated. Based on the test results, the variation of the transmission rule is evaluated and the damping magnitudes and types are identified. In addition, the relevant numerical time history responses are calculated considering the nonlinear behavior of the system. The results indicate that the QZS isolation system has a satisfactory isolation effect, while a higher damping level can potentially promote the isolation performance in the low-frequency range. It is also proved that the numerical calculation method accurately predicts the transmission character of the isolation system.
Theoretical and experimental study is conducted on the contact pressure distribution of a radial tire in motion under various camber angles. Tire construction is modelled by a spring bedded elastic ring, consisted of sidewall springs and a composite belt ring. The contact area is assumed to be a trapezoidal shape varying with camber angles and weighted load. The basic equation in a quasi-static form is derived for the deformation of a running belt with a constant velocity by the aid of Lagrange-Euler transformation. Galerkin's method and stepwise calculation are applied for solving the basic equation and the mechanical boundary condition along both sides of the contact belt part subjected to shearing forces transmitted from the sidewall spring. Experimental results on the contact pressure, measured by pressure sensors embedded in the surface of the drum tester, correspond well with the calculated ones for the test tire under various camber angles, running velocities and weighted loads. These results indicate that a buckling phenomenon of the contact belt in the widthwise direction occurs due to the effect of camber angle.
A leaf spring suspension has been widely used since it can carry big load and simplicity. But one major drawback is the poor ride performance because of the friction in the system and the high stiffness coefficient. To overcome these, air spring suspension can be used. The air spring suspension system can improve the ride of the heavy vehicle significantly and also it can adjust the height to the loading and unloading. A truck with the leaf suspension system is modified with the air suspension system and the performance of the vehicle is compared using the suggested method. The existing leaf suspension can be replaced with the air suspension system to improve the performance.
The main goals of the automotive suspension systems are to isolate roadway unevenness from the tire and to improve vehicle stability. To overcome the performance limitation of the passive systems the active systems which completely replace the passive spring and damper elements with a force generating actuator has been studied. However, application of the system has been limited because it has required a significant amount of power. Recently, alternative systems which retain passive elements but include active elements have been developed to reduce the power required. Those systems are mostly focused on the control system which compresses the spring-damper directly. In this study, a new type of power efficient control system which makes the spring-damper unit slide in side way is studied. After constructing the control system including dynamic modeling and motion control, two types of alternative control systems are compared in view of power consumption and dynamic attitudes such as roll responses as well as heave responses. Also, a half car bond graph model is developed to show clearly the significant differences in performances between two control systems.
Recently, as environmental regulations for earth-moving equipment have been tightening, advanced systems such as electronic control, have been introduced for energy savings. An IMV (Independent Metering Valve) consisting of four 2-way valves, is an electro-hydraulic control systems that provides more flexible controllability, and potential for energy savings in excavators, when compared to the conventional 4-way spool valve system. To fully maximize use of an IMV, the bi-directional flow control valve that can regulate a large amount of flow in both directions, should be adopted. The hydraulic circuit of an IMV applied to an excavator from an overseas construction equipment company, reveals the flow control valve with the compound of proportional solenoid valve for first stage, and 2-way spool valve for the second stage. Moreover, the two spools are interconnected by a feedback spring, presumed to compensate for flow force acting on the second stage spool. This paper addresses the static analysis of flow control valve in an IMV to investigate the improvement of robustness, against flow force by the feedback spring. From the steady-state analysis of flow control valve model, it can be concluded that the feedback spring facilitates maintaining linearity of spool displacement for control input, and relatively constant flow for load disturbance.
The load cell is a force sensor and a transducer that is used to convert a physical force into a electrical signal for weighing equipment. Most conventional load cells are widely used a metal foil strain gauge for sensing element when force being applied spring element in order to converts the deformation to electrical signals. The sensitivity of a load cell is limited by its low gauge factor, hysteresis and creep. But silicon-based sensors perform with higher reliability. This paper presents the basic design and development of the silicon type load cell with an SUS630 diaphragm. The load cell consists of two parts the silicon strain gauge and the SUS630 structure with diaphragm. Structure analysis of load cell was researched by theory to optimize the load cell diaphragm design and to determine the position of peizoresistors on a silicon strain gauge. The piezo-resistors are integrated in the four points of silicon strain gauge processed by ion implantation. The thickness of the silicon strain gauge was polished by CMP under 100 ${\mu}M$. The 10 mm diameter SUS630 diaphragm was designed for loads up to 10 kg with 300 ${\mu}M$ of diaphragm thickness. The load cell was successfully tested, the variation of ${\Delta}$R(%) of four points on the silicon strain gauge is good linearity properties and sensitivity.
This paper describes the design and fabrication of a low frequency vibration driven high-efficiency electromagnetic energy harvester based on FR(Flame Resistance)-4 spring which converts mechanical energy into useful electrical power. The fabricated generator consists of a vertically polarized NdFeB permanent magnet attached to the center of spring and a planar type copper coil which has higher efficiency compare with cylindrical type coil. ANSYS finite analysis and Matlab were used to determine the resonance frequency and output power. The generator is capable of producing up to 1.36 $V_{pp}$ at 9 Hz, which has the maximum power of 639 ${\mu}W$ with a load resistance of $3.25k{\Omega}$.
This paper focused on the dynamic behavior of camshaft in a direct acting type valve train system. To investigate camshaft behavior, transient vibration analysis is performed by using the transfer matrix method. The camshaft is treated as lumped mass system supported by spring and damper. Front the presented analytical model, we could predict dynamic behavior of camshaft, shaft locus within bearing and bearing load. The presented mode and results will be very helpful to design the optimal camshaft and valve train system.
When the track designer analyze the track structure uses many known & unknown parameters. Unknown parameters, equivalent rail support spring factor, unit rail support spring factor, track damping coefficient, should be assumed. Known parameters are section properties (area, section factor, etc), material properties(modulus of elasticity, mass, etc) and track conditions(wheel load, loading conditions, gauge, etc.). In the assumption of track design parameters, some parameters can be overestimated or under estimated. The purpose of this study is to verify design parameters used in track design, in the way of experimental measurements. Data of displacements, banding stresses, loads, accelerations are measurable at track site. From these data, unknown parameters are derived. Compare these assumed and derived parameters, estimate the entire track stability.
