  • This paper proposes a compression technique of image data, a variable length PN code and channel models which are required in CDMA communication system. It also analyzes their performances. Original images is compressed by 2-D DCT and its coefficients are quantized by optimal quantizer at compression rate 0.84bit/pel. Channel model 1 and 2 which are composed of 5 and 4 channels respectively are employed to be used in CDMA. Such a situation forces us to empoly variable length PN code, such as Chebyshev map for spread spectrum system. When average PN code length of model 1 and 2 is 44.4 and 26.7 chips respectively, the received image through these models under Gaussian noise with variance 1.75 is visually of the same quality as the transmitting image. Thus, the model 2 appears to be better in channel efficiency, comparing with channel model 1 and channel model which uses fixed length PN code.

  • The global trends of mobile communication system is moving toward digitizing, high-speed and large-capacity. Also, to utilize the limited frequency-resource efficiently, spread spectrum system is a mainstream. In this study we are concerning with the fast frequency-hopping system. Instead of the PLL with many problems such as phase-noise, we used the DDS is popular in these days minimizes the disadvantage of PLL. In the case the FFH system is designed using the PLL, it is difficult to be satisfied of the design conditions such as RF badwidth and the settling time of PLL, and it has limitation because of complex circuit by using the balanced modulator. In this study, we evaluated the performance in order to design the FFH system using the DDS. The system that has the improvement of error rate, 1Mhps hopping rate and 5MHz RF bandwidth is designed and evaluated.

  • In this paper, Frequency Synthesizer which is widely used for FH-SS system is proposed and the experimental results are analyzed. The performance of the DPLL(Digital Phase-Locked-Loop), which is the main part of the Synthesizer is analyzed by the computer program. Using Maxplus-II tool provided by altera. co., ltd, each part of the DPLL is designed and all of them is integrated into EPM7064SLC44-10 chip. And the simulation results are compared with the characteristics of the implemented circuits for analysis. And the experiential results show that the N value of the loop filter is toggled to adjacent N value, which result in phase jitter of the output. It can be resolved by increasing DCO(Digital Controlled oscillator) clock rate.

  • The popularity of OFDM systems is being increased because of high speed data transmission capability md the spectral efficiency characteristics. However, since OFDM systems are very sensitive to the Doppler spread, The interference among subcarriers and the total system noise can be increased seriously due to the degree of Doppler effects which can cause the orthogonality problems. Therefore, these Doppler effects were analyzed using the Doppler spectrum models by varying its parameters. Especially in this paper, The degree of system performance degradation was investigated for the OFDM systems applying the relatively simple transmit and receiver diversity. The degree of the system performance degradation depends on the specific diversity structures of transceiver systems. Here, the performances of OFDM systems with two antennas transceiver diversity were analyzed and compared with that of systems with only transmission diversity and without diversity as the Doppler characteristics varied.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive pilot beacon equipment for mobile communication systems based on direct spread spectrum technology which generates the pilot channel for handoff between base stations by using the information acquired from the downstream wireless signal regarding the overhead channel information. Such an adaptive pilot beacon equipment will enable low power operation since among the wireless signals, only the pilot channel will be generated and transmitted. The pilot channel in the downstream link of the CDMA receiver is used to acquire time and frequency synchronization and this is used to calibrate the offset for the beacon, which implies that time synchronization using GPS is not required and any location where forward receive signal can be received can be used as the installation site. The downstream link pilot signal searching within the CDMA receiver is performed by FPGA and DSP. The FPGA is used to perform the initial synchronization for the pilot searcher and DSP is used to perform the offset correction between beacon clock and base station clock. The CDMA transmitter the adaptive pilot beacon equipment will use the timing offset information in the pilot channel acquired from the CDMA receiver and generate the downstream link pilot signal synchronized to the base station. The intermediate frequency signal is passed through the FIR filter and subsequently upconverted and amplified before being radiated through the antenna.

  • In spite of many advantages of Meteor Burst Communications(MBC) on its transmission channel, the fact that its duty rate is less than 10 percents is a considerable deficiency of MBC. To overcome with this deficiency without paying large cost, we use a direct sequence(DS) simple reception system. This method doesn't need to add the components for acquisition or tracking the signal so that it keeps the cost efficiency of the MBC. But it has a disadvantage that its duty rate shows a large decline by noise. For this problem, we adopt the proposed system applying a positive feedback circuit. The improvement by this method is more significant when the received signal is weak. Simulation results show as tl is l00ms, then the burst length would be increased by $35\%$ when the initial value of the received signal power increases by 3 dB, t2 is 135ms. If the power increases by 6dB the burst length would be 170ms thus increased by $70\%$, which shows a great enhancement. Suppose now that tl is 50ms and the power is increased by 3dB, then t2 would be increased by $70\%$ to 85ms, and increasing the power by 6dB it would be increased by $130\%$ to 115ms.
