  • A laser ultrasonic inspection system is a non-contact inspection device which generates and measures ultrasonics by using laser beam. A laser ultrasonic inspection system provides a high measurement resolution because the ultrasonic signal generated by a pulse laser beam has a wide-band spectrum and the ultrasonic signal is measured from a small focused spot of a measuring laser beam. In this study, galvanic corrosion phenomenon was measured by non-destructive and non-contact method using the laser. The case of mixed foreign material on the part of corrosion was assumed and laser ultrasonic experiment was conducted. Ultrasonic was generated by pulse laser from the back side of the specimen and ultrasonic signal was acquired from the same location of the front side using continuous wave laser and Confocal Fabry-Perot Interferometer(CFPI). The characteristic of the ultrasonic signal of exist foreign material part was analyzed and the location and size of foreign material was measured.

  • Postoperative radiotherapy of breast cancer makes it possible to reduce loco-regional recurrence of breast cancer. The treatment technique, which can reduce the low-dose region at the junction and lung, is required. To produce proper dose distribution of internal mammary chain and chest wall, authors tried to find the method to expose $^{60}Co\;\gamma-ray$ on internal mammary region and 7MeV electron on chest wall. Exposure time of $^{60}Co\;\gamma$ and monitor unit of 9MeV were selected so that dose of $^{60}Co$ at 4cm depth was the same as that of 7Mev electron at $80\%$ dose depth. The position and direction of electron beam were changed for $^{60}Co$ beam: $0^{\circ},\;5^{\circ}$ for 0cm seperation; $0^{\circ},\;5^{\circ},\;10^{\circ}$ for 0.5cm seperation; $5^{\circ},\;10^{\circ},\;15^{\circ}$ for 1cm seperation. The results are as followings. 1. When the seperation of two fields was increased, dose on the axis of $^{60}Co$ beam was increased and dose at the junction region decreased while the volume of lung to be exposed to high dose and hot spot size were irregularly changed. 2. The dose distribution in the target volume of internal mammary and chest wall was most ideal when the seperation of two fields was $0\~0.5cm$ and the direction of electron beam was parallel to $^{60}Co$ beam.

  • Real-time embedded systems should accommodate many kinds of hardware platforms and resource management policies that vary depending on their operating environments and purposes. It is not an easy job to adapt a multitasking kernel to new system services and hardware platforms, as the kernel must strictly satisfy constraints on its size and performance. This paper describes the design and implementation of an object-oriented multitasking framework that can be reused for implementing microprocessor-based real-time embedded multitasking kernels, In this kernel framework, those parts that can vary depending on hardware platforms and system resource management policies are separated into the hot spots and encapsulated by abstract classes. Our framework thus can be effectively used to implement microprocessor-based real-time embedded kernels that demand high portability and adaptability.

  • We investigated surface-relief profiles of the TPHK(telecentric paraxial holographic kinofrm) used as a Fourier-transform lens employing exact geometrical raytracing. For the TPHK of F/8 and focal length of 15 mm, we consider the cases where the thickness of the substrate is 0 and 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, dividing the surface-relif profiles into fifty steps from plano-convex to convexplano shapes and varying the angle of incidence($0^{\circ},{2.5}^{\circ},5^{\circ}$). In order to identify appropriate surface-relief profiles, we employ, as criteria of performance, rms spot size, rms deviation from $f{\sin}{\theta}$, peak position and FWHM(full width at half maximum), number of rays abandoned from raytracing etc., which are determined from the result of exact raytracing. It is found that the profile with 80% of its relief thickness facing the image plane gives the best performance regardless of the presence of substrate.

  • In order to illustrate the role of conidia of Mycosphaerella nawae as a secondary inoculum in nature, pseudothecial development on persimmon leaves was investigated microscopically. The fungal ascospores have been believed as the primary or only inoculum source in nature, however, pseudothecia were readily formed on persimmon leaves infected naturally and artificially by conidia. The pseudothecia of M. nawae were found to form in the tissues of infected leaves while the leaves were still hanging on the trees. The size of pseudothecia were approximately 51.0~122.4$\times$51.0~112.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ (82.8 $\times$72.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$in average), the shapes were spherical, ovoid or occidental pear type. The sizes of asci were approximately 30.6~61.2$\times$8.2~10.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(46.6$\times$9.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in average) and the shapes were cylinder or banana. The ascospores were mostly spindle type, and the sizes were 10.2~12.2$\times$3.1~4.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ (11.4$\times$3.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in average)-like. The pseudothecial formation was initiated before defoliation and morphological characteristics of the pseudothecia, ascus and ascospores on the infected leaves were fully illustrated in this study. Results indicated that conidia of M. nawae induce circular leaf spot of persimmon as much as ascospores, and might play an important role of the disease epidemics in nature.

  • Critical and allowable shear stress acting on the mattress revetment, is presented in this study. First of all, shear stress at each spot is computed when the hydraulic power act on the waterway. Secondly, median diameter of the filling rocks is computed using shear stress and Shields coefficient which are used to decide the critical motion of the particle. Finally, the range of critical and allowable shear stress is estimated which meet the particle stability and indicated that the mattress is a stable hydraulic structure in comparison with the riprap. Therefore the required median diameter of riprap is three times higher than that of mattress. Contrarily, this study also analyzed that resisting power of mattress to shear stress is three times higher than that of riprap on the same size.

  • Center Distance Finding (CDF) is a technique to find the sphere diameter by measuring the distance between two contacting spheres. The focal spots of the sphere clusters are formed in the back-focal plane by the transmission-mode optical microscope with the pseudothermal illumination source. Digital images taken by the CCD camera were processed by the software called Global Lab Image. The centers of the focal spots are found and the spot positions are expressed in terms of the CCD pixel elements, whose coordinate are calibrated by a heterodyne interferometer. The new CDF measurement system has been developed, which are more advantageous in time and convenience than the existing system, while the measurement uncertainly remains sufficient for its use as a magnification standard for optical microscopy. Two kinds of polystyrene spheres whose nominal diameters 3 and 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ (NIST SRM 1962 and 1960) are measured with the uncertainly less than 1% at the confidence level of 99%, and the results are compared with the results of National Institute of Standards and Technology.

  • A photoluminescence (PL) imaging method using a vision camera was employed to inspect InGaN/GaN quantum-well light-emitting diode (LED) epi-wafers. The PL image revealed dark spot defective regions (DSDRs) as well as a spatial map of integrated PL intensity of the epi-wafer. The Shockley-Read-Hall (SRH) nonradiative recombination coefficient increased with the size of the DSDRs. The high nonradiative recombination rates of the DSDRs resulted in degradation of the optical properties of the LED chips fabricated at the defective regions. Abnormal current-voltage characteristics with large forward leakages were also observed for LED chips with DSDRs, which could be due to parallel resistances bypassing the junction and/or tunneling through defects in the active region. It was found that the SRH nonradiative recombination process was dominant in the voltage range where the forward leakage by tunneling was observed. The results indicated that the DSDRs observed by PL imaging of LED epi-wafers were high density SRH nonradiative recombination centers which could affect the optical and electrical properties of the LED chips, and PL imaging can be an inspection method for evaluation of the epi-wafers and estimation of properties of the LED chips before fabrication.

  • A "granite boulder", ~70 cm in size, was reported from the Geumgang Limestone, and has been considered as a glaciogenic dropstone. Since this interpretation has enormous implications for unraveling the evolution history of the Ogcheon Metamorphic Belt, we re-examined the contact relationship and structure of the "granite boulder", and estimated its emplacement age based upon SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating. The weighted mean $^{206}Pb/^{238}U$ age pooled from 6 spot analyses of two specimens is $170{\pm}2Ma$ ($2{\sigma}$, MSWD=2.2). This zircon age suggests that the "granite boulder" in the Geumgang Limestone is a part of Jurassic granite, rather than a glaciogenic dropstone.

  • As a starting material, BCP (biphasic calcium phosphate) nano powder was synthesized by a hydrothermal microwave-assisted process. A highly porous BCP scaffold was fabricated by the sponge replica method using 60 ppi (pore per inch) of polyurethane sponge. The BCP scaffold had interconnected pores ranging from $100\;{\mu}m$ to $1000\;{\mu}m$, which were similar to natural cancellous bone. To realize the antibacterial property, a microwave-assisted nano Ag spot coating process was used. The morphology and distribution of nano Ag particles were different depending on the coating conditions, such as concentration of the $AgNO_3$ solution, microwave irradiation times, etc. With an increased microwave irradiation time, the amount of coated nano Ag particles increased. The surface of the BCP scaffold was totally covered with nano Ag particles homogeneously at 20 seconds of microwave irradiation time when 0.6 g of $AgNO_3$ was used. With an increased amount of $AgNO_3$ and irradiation time, the size of the coated particles increased. Antibacterial activities of the solution extracted from the Ag-coated BCP scaffold were examined against gram-negative (Escherichia coli) and gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus). When 0.6 g of $AgNO_3$ was used for coating the Ag-coated scaffold, it showed higher antibacterial activities than that of the Ag-coated scaffold using 0.8 g of $AgNO_3$.
