  • We propose a vector analysis for designing multimode-interference power splitters, which can show an arbitrary splitting ratio. Power splitting is a fundamental characteristic in integrated optical circuits and its value would be multiplied for many applications if the splitting ratio could be selected freely. Since the vector analysis utilizes a graphical method based on the previously-reported mathematical results of multimode interference, it shows an excellent advantage especially for designing power splitters with an arbitrary splitting ratio.

  • In an underlay cognitive simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) network, communication from secondary user (SU) to secondary destination (SD) is accomplished with decode-and-forward (DF) relays. Multiple energy-constrained relays are assumed to harvest energy from SU via power splitting (PS) protocol and complete SU secure information transmission with beamforming. Hence, physical layer security (PLS) is investigated in cognitive SWIPT network. In order to interfere with eavesdropper and improve relay's energy efficiency, a destination-assisted jamming scheme is proposed. Namely, SD transmits artificial noise (AN) to interfere with eavesdropping, while jamming signal can also provide harvested energy to relays. Beamforming vector and power splitting ratio are jointly optimized with the objective of SU secrecy capacity maximization. We solve this non-convex optimization problem via a general two-stage procedure. Firstly, we obtain the optimal beamforming vector through semi-definite relaxation (SDR) method with a fixed power splitting ratio. Secondly, the best power splitting ratio can be obtained by one-dimensional search. We provide simulation results to verify the proposed solution. Simulation results show that the scheme achieves the maximum SD secrecy rate with appropriate selection of power splitting ratio, and the proposed scheme guarantees security in cognitive SWIPT networks.

  • The liquid film behavior between two rotating rollers has been analyzed for many years. Their contributions were, however, limited almost within the areas of polymer laminar flow in there. When the slip contact of two rotating rollers is used as a role of vehicle to distribute the liquid discharged on to each roller after splitting from the nip, there was few available relationship to control the roller speed and to design system. On this work it was possible to get out a certain relationship between the discharged film thickness ratio and the roller surface seeds without any help of pressure limit at the splitting point. The hydrodynamic analyzation of Newtonian liquid behavior around the point was well proved on some manipulative experiment. The thickness ratio increases along with the roll surface speed ratio increases. And the discharged volume flow rate ratio on each roller surface varies with square of the speed ratio. Both of these relationship have a decision factor also made up by the speed ratio.

  • In order to quantify the effect of transverse reinforcement on the bond splitting behavior of reinforcement monotonic loading tests of 8 slmply beams were carried out. The reinforcing details and material properties were so determined that the bond splitting failure proceded the shear and flexural failure. A bond splitting strength derived from the experimental data and it accounts for following parameters: 1) Concrete Strength 2) Transverse reinforcement ratio and shape 3) Thickness of concrete cover 4)Deformation of reinforcement

  • Flexural and splitting strength behavior of conventional concrete can significantly be improved by incorporating the fibers in it. A significant number of research studies have been conducted on various types of fibers and their influence on the tensile capacity of concrete. However, as an important property, tensile capacity of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) is not modelled properly. Therefore, this paper intends to formulate a model based on experiments that show the relationship between the fiber properties such as the aspect ratio (length/diameter), fiber content, compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting strength of FRC. For the purpose of modeling, various FRC mixes only with steel fiber are adopted from the existing research papers. Automated neural network search (ANS) is then developed and used to investigate the effect of input parameters such as fiber content, aspect ratio and compressive strength to the output parameters of flexural and splitting strength of FRC. It is found that the ANS model can be used to predict the flexural and splitting strength of FRC in a sensible precision.

  • This paper presents the investigations towards developing a better understanding on the contribution of steel fibers on the tensile strength of high-performance fiber reinforced concrete (HPFRC). An extensive experimentation was carried out with w/cm ratios ranging from 0.25 to 0.40 and fiber content ranging from zero to 1.5 percent with an aspect ratio of 80. For 32 concrete mixes, flexural and splitting tensile strengths were determined at 28 days. The influence of fiber content in terms of fiber reinforcing index on the flexural and splitting tensile strengths of HPFRC is presented. Based on the test results, mathematical models were developed using statistical methods to predict 28-day flexural and splitting tensile strengths of HPFRC for a wide range of w/cm ratios. The expressions, being developed with strength ratios and not with absolute values of strengths and are applicable to wide range of w/cm ratio and different sizes/shapes of specimens. Relationship between flexural and splitting tensile strengths has been developed using regression analysis and absolute variation of strength values obtained was within 3.85 percent. To examine the validity of the proposed model, the experimental results of previous researchers were compared with the values predicted by the model.

  • This paper proposes a method of implementing an unequal power divider for high splitting ratios by using transmission lines connected with open and short stubs. The proposed method is an equivalent circuit analysis of a transmission line with an additional port so that it can be converted to an arbitrary impedance in the center of a 2-port transmission line and a 3-port transmission line with an open or short stub connected in parallel to each port. To prove the validity of this method, a Wilkinson power divider with k2 = 20 dB splitting ratio and a Gysel power divider with k2 = 17 dB splitting ratio were designed at a center frequency of 1 GHz using a 3-port transmission line equivalent circuit. The experimental results of the electrical characteristics are in good agreement with the simulation.

  • Splitting tensile strength (STS) of high-performance concrete (HPC) is one of the important mechanical properties for structural design. This property is related to compressive strength (CS), water/binder (W/B) ratio and concrete age. This paper presents a clustering-based fuzzy model for the prediction of STS based on the CS and (W/B) at a fixed age (28 days). The data driven fuzzy model consists of three main steps: fuzzy clustering, inference system, and prediction. The system can be analyzed directly by the model from measured data. The performance evaluations showed that the fuzzy model is more accurate than the other prediction models concerned.

  • The most of waste foundry sands(WFS) have been discarded. It is very urgent for our country to make a study on recycling of WFS. The one of recycling method of WFS is using them as fine aggregate for concrete. This study provided the optimum amount of WFS and flyash when WFS and flyash were used together in concrete. The concrete made with 60% WFS fine aggregate replacement showed higher compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity than normal concrete. In the case that the flyash and WFS are replaced together, the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength were improved at flyash replacement ratio $10%{\sim}20%$ and WFS replacement ratio $40%{\sim}60%$. The increase of WFS and flyash replacement led lower air content. While the increase of WFS replacement led lower slump, the increase of flyash replacement led higher slump.

  • This paper presents the design, fabrication, and testing of the capillary-induced pressure drop valve, thermocapillary pumping of liquid droplet in hydrophilic channels and the splitting of droplet. The capillaryinduced pressure drop is derived with thermodynamic approach considering three-dimensional meniscus shape which is essential for calculating pressure drop in the diverging shape channel when the aspect ratio is close to one. The micro channel is fabricated via MEMS processes, which consists of the liquid stop valve to retard the liquid droplet, thermocapillary pumping region and the bifurcation region. Also the micro heaters are fabricated to drive the droplet by thermocapillary. The theoretical approaches agree well with the experimental data. The functionality of capillary valve is confirmed to be valid when the aspect ratio is smaller than one. To overcome the difficulty in splitting of the droplet due to the pressure drop in the general Y-shape channel, the protrusion shape is employed for easy splitting in the bifurcation channel.
