  • In order to provide seamless wireless Internet service, the basic mobile IP protocol should be enhanced to solve packet loss problem from large registration latency because frequent handoffs occur in cellular networks. In this paper, we suggest a new micro-mobility management protocol based on MPLS while supporting Qos, and evaluate its performance using simulation. We use MPLS label switching techniuqe in cellular access networks to simplify location management and speed up packet transmission. We adopt context transfer procedure to minimize the delay needed to attain prior level of service after handoff Packet loss can be minimized during handoff by transmitting received packets from old BSLER to new BSLER using a spliced LSP between them. Simulation results show that the proposed MPLS-based micro-mobility management protocol provides a seamless handoff and supports QoS of user traffic.

  • Interleukin-32 (IL-32) is a cytokine inducing crucial inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}(TNF{\alpha})$ and IL-6 and its expression is elevated in various inflammatory autoimmune diseases, certain cancers, as well as viral infections. IL-32 gene was first cloned from activated T cells, however IL-32 expression was also found in other immune cells and non-immune cells. IL-32 gene was identified in most mammals except rodents. It is transcribed as multiple-spliced variants in the absence of a specific activity of each isoform. IL-32 has been studied mostly in clinical fields such as infection, autoimmune, cancer, vascular disease, and pulmonary diseases. It is difficult to investigate the precise role of IL-32 in vivo due to the absence of IL-32 gene in mouse. The lack of mouse IL-32 gene restricts in vivo studies and restrains further development of IL-32 research in clinical applications although IL-32 new cytokine getting a spotlight as an immune regulatory molecule processing important roles in autoimmune, infection, and cancer. In this review, we discuss the regulation and function of IL-32 in inflammatory bowel diseases and rheumatoid arthritis.

  • This paper presents an improved feature extraction method to achieve a good performance in the detection of splicing forged images. Strong edges caused by the image splicing destroy the statistical dependencies between parent and child subbands in the wavelet domain. We analyze the co-occurrence probability matrix of parent and child subbands in the wavelet domain, and calculate the statistical moments from two-dimensional characteristic function of the co-occurrence matrix. The extracted features are used as the input of SVM classifier. Experimental results show that the proposed method obtains a good performance with a small number of features compared to the existing methods.

  • Experimental investigation was conducted into the flexure/shear-critical behavior of earthquake-damaged reinforced concrete columns with lap splicing of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge region. Six test specimens in the aspect ratio of 2.5 were made with test parameters: confinement ratios, lap splices, and retrofitting FRP materials. They were damaged under series of artificial earthquakes that could be compatible in Korean peninsula. Directly after the pseudo-dynamic test, damaged columns were retested under inelastic reversal cyclic loading simultaneously under a constant axial load, P = 0.1 $f_{ck}$ $A_{g}$. Residual seismic performance of damaged columns was evaluated and compared to that of the corresponding original columns. Test results show that RC bridge piers with lap-spliced longitudinal steels in the plastic hinge region appeared to fail at low ductility. This was due to the debonding of the lap splice, which resulted from insufficient development of the longitudinal steels. The specimens externally wrapped with composite FRP straps in the potential plastic hinge region indicated significant improvement both in flexural strength and displacement ductility.y.

  • The bridge columns with lap-splice reinforcements in earthquake suffered a brittle bond-slip failure due to the deterioration of lap-spliced longitudinal reinforcement without developing its flexural capacity or ductility. In this case, such a brittle failure can be controlled by the seismic retrofit using FRP wrapping. The retrofitted columns using FRP laminated circular tube showed significant improvement in seismic performance due to FRP's confinement effect. This paper presents the circumferential confinement effect of existing circular bridge pier strengthened with FRP wrapping for poor lap-splice details. The effects on the confinement of FRP wrapping, such as gap lengths between footing and FRP, fiber orientations, and thicknesses of FRP, were investigated by Quasi-static experiments.

  • A method of making simply supported girders continuous is described for bridges with spans of 30-45 m. The splicing method takes advantage of an induced secondary moment to transform the self-weight stresses in the precast simply supported girders into values representative of a continuous girder. The secondary moment results from prestressing of continuity tendons and detensioning of temporary tendons in the girders. Preliminary sections are selected for spliced U-girder bridges with a range of span lengths. Use of the proposed technique results in girder depth reductions of 500-800 mm when compared to standard simply supported I-girder bridges. The flexural behavior of an example bridge with 40-m spans is examined to illustrate the necessary considerations for determining the optimum sequence of splicing operations.

  • N-terminal kinase-like (NTKL) protein was initially identified as a protein binding to protein kinase B (PKB, also known as Akt). Though NTKL-BP1 (NTKL-binding protein 1) has been identified as an NTKL binding protein, its functions related to binding have not yet been elucidated. Here, a new alternative spliced variant of NTKL and its association with integrin ${\beta}1$ is described, in addition to the kinase activity of NTKL and its substrate candidates. Although the phosphorylation of the candidates must be further confirmed using other experimental methods, the observation that NTKL can phosphorylate ROCK1, DYRK3, and MST1 indicates that NTKL may act as a signaling protein to regulate actin assembly, cell migration, cell growth, and to facilitate differentiation and development in an integrin-associated manner.

  • For $y{\in}{\mathbb{R}}$, a sequence $x=(x_n){\in}{\ell}^{\infty}$, and a non-negative regular matrix A, Bartoszewicz et. al., in 2015, defined the notion of the A-density ${\delta}_A(y)$ of the indices of those $x_n$ that are close to y. Their main result states that if the set of limit points of ($x_n$) is countable and density ${\delta}_A(y)$ exists for any $y{\in}\mathbb{R}$ where A is a non-negative regular matrix, then ${\lim}_{n{\rightarrow}{\infty}}(Ax)_n={\sum}_{y{\in}{\mathbb{R}}}{\delta}_A(y){\cdot}y$. In this note we first show that the result can be extended to a more general class of matrices and then consider a conjecture which naturally arises from our investigations.

  • In the case of designing superconducting power apparatuses using the second generation high temperature superconducting wire, it is necessary to have a tape-splicing technique to achieve low splice resistance between coated conductor (CC) tapes. In this paper, an experimental splice method between YBCO CC tapes is proposed for a coil application. Splices were performed with a 37Pb-63Sn solder. YBCO samples were fabricated with various pressures and cooling rates. Joint resistances of the spliced samples of jointed YBCO CC tapes were measured and evaluated from V-I curves. In addition, optical micrographs were obtained to analyze the cross sectional microstructure of jointed samples.

  • $I{\kappa}B$ kinase (IKK), the pivotal kinase in signal-dependent activation of nuclear factor-${\kappa}B$ (NF-${\kappa}B$), is composed of multiple protein components, including IKK ${\alpha}/{\beta}/{\gamma}$ core subunits. To investigate the regulation of the IKK complex, we immunoaffinity purified the IKK complex, and by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry identified a splice variant of zinc finger protein 268 (ZNF268) as a novel IKKinteracting protein. Both the full-length and the spliced form of the ZNF268 protein were detected in a variety of mammalian tissues and cell lines. The genes were cloned and expressed by in vitro transcription/translation. Several deletion derivatives, such as KRAB domain (KRAB) on its own, the KRAB/spacer/4-zinc fingers (zF4), and the spacer/4-zinc fingers (zS4), were ectopically expressed in mammalian cells and exhibited had different subcellular locations. The KRAB-containing mutants were restricted to the nucleus, while zS4 was localized in the cytosol. TNF-${\alpha}$-induced NF-${\kappa}B$ activation was examined using these mutants and only zS4 was found to stimulate activation. Collectively, the results indicate that a spliced form of ZNF268 lacking the KRAB domain is located in the cytosol, where it seems to play a role in TNF-${\alpha}$-induced NF-${\kappa}B$ activation by interacting with the IKK complex.
